Volume 1: Chapter 1 - The Wolf

The spark had already traveled many miles through the space, passing by realms, worlds, and universes, as if looking for something or someone. As it reached the recess of the space, the spark began to emit a low sound and glow with a fiery tinge of orange. It seemed to have found what it was looking for all this time. With a single and swift motion, the spark flew into one of the many worlds that encompassed this section of the space.

The spark flew straight down into the clouds of that world, penetrating them as if it were tofu. Its fire became blue as it delved deeper into the sky. With the sun in its background, the sky of this world seemed reddish with a slight tinge of orange showing that it was the start of a new day. From afar, the spark seemed nothing more than a small comet. Many of the onlookers prayed and cast their wishes upon it as if it could alleviate them of their sorrows and misfortunes. The spark paid no attention to them. It focused all of its attention on finding the one that it would inhabit and possess.

After a while, the spark found it or rather him. It was a baby boy, still in his mother’s womb, but it seemed that this infant possessed something within it that the spark greatly desired. The spark without wasting a single breath assimilated itself with the boy. It did not want to hurt him, but rather protect him. Seeming to sigh within the body of the boy, the spark knew that the boy was predestined to have a sad fate.

“Dear, please help me!” shouted a woman in excruciating pain. Her face was fair and beautiful, although stricken with an expression of panic. Her arms were stretched towards the direction of her husband took. They were bruised, blood could be seen flowing out of her many wounds.

“Please hold on, do not leave me, my love…” screamed a man, who seemed to be struggling against something much bigger than himself. Howls could be heard coming towards him. As the howls vanished, sounds of metals against flesh could be heard in the distance.

“RUN! My dear, it is too late for me… I… will… always…” shrieked again the same man. His shouts although strong at the beginning, slowly started to sound faint and, eventually, disappeared into the darkness that surrounded the woman.

A faint sound of the man’s final words could be heard before sounds of munching and tearing overtook it. The woman began to cry. Her fair face, no longer keeping its composure, became deathly pale. Her eyes reddened and her hair became disheveled as she kept pulling it. Tears continued to pour out of her eyes. She no longer wanted to live. Her only love, her only partner had left this world protecting her from the menace that lied within the darkness.

As the sounds continued, the woman, in her grief and despair, began to remember the last words of her husband. He loved her. He truly did. The woman smiled as tears continued to stream down her beautiful face. As she was preparing for her fate, the woman suddenly felt a faint kicked coming from her stomach. She had completely forgotten about her son. Her son was the only part of her husband that was left. She had to protect him, as she felt that she could see some traces of her husband, in her son, once he was born.

Knowing this, the woman became alert, she wiped her tears and tried to regain her composure. Her eyes started to glimmer with a faint trace of dominance and arrogance that it once possessed. She was a daughter of the heavens. She could not allow her son to die in this accursed place. She began to stand up, her feet, although weakened by her wounds, did not seem to falter under her weight.

Although it took her a bit of time to get used to standing up, the sounds that she once heard coming from the direction of her husband slowly disappeared. Fiery red eyes of otherworldly beings began to show themselves to the woman. The woman began to panic, once again. Ignoring her pain, she grabbed hold of her stomach and began to run towards the never-ending darkness of the forest. As she ran, she tried to remain strong for her son, yet tears once again streamed down her fair face, as she knew that she would never be able to find or see her beloved again.

After a while, the woman stopped and started to gasp loudly. She was out of breath and she did not know how far she had traveled. The darkness prevented her from knowing where she was going, only giving her a glimpse of her surroundings. She tried to find the place where she and husband had stayed the night before they were attacked. As she was looking at her surroundings, she noticed that beyond the outline of the trees, there laid some kind of building. She tried squinting her eyes. She had to see if it truly was a building in front of her or something far more sinister. As the outline of the object became clearer, she noticed that it was a temple. Without a second thought to her safety or that of her child, she decided to go to it. In her mind, it was her only choice to escape the beings that were following her. As she started to run towards it, she began to question her decision.

“Is this temple safe? Why is it that I have never seen this temple before? And why is it that it is built on this accursed land?” murmured the woman under her breath, her voice, now, as melodious as it was before this event befell her. Her black hair still disheveled made her seem like an enchanting and cold beauty that wasn't seen, in this world, for many ages. She was afraid, her hands started to tremble as she continued stumbling through the darkness to reach her ominous destination yet also her only hope, the temple.

As the woman ran towards it, the beings that followed her were brought to a standstill a few steps away from the temple's ground. Their red eyes glimmering in the darkness seemed to be possessed by the countless tortured souls of their victims. They were hungry for flesh and blood, but they could not come near this temple. Suddenly, the outline of a great wolf was seen by the beings, as it emerged from the depths of the darkness. They trembled in fear. The wolf growled. It wanted its prey, the woman, to come out of the temple's grounds. Seeing the woman flee deeper into this sanctuary's grounds, the wolf howled. Its howls pierced the air. Fresh blood started dripping out from its muzzle, coating its shadowy fur. Although its fiery red eyes reflected the deep hatred it felt for the temple, they were still closely focused on the woman as if it did not want to let her go.

Seeing the woman entering the temple, the wolf growled menacingly, while baring its fangs at something powerful yet invisble that was guarding the old building in front of it. Its white fangs stained with blood showed the malevolence of its previous deed. Unexpectedly, the wolf began to smell something. A new prey had arrived. Without a second thought, the wolf howled excitedly, its howls filled the air with an unquenching bloodthirst that made its surrounding still and deadly silent. Looking at the beings surrounding it, the wolf began to run towards the smell of its new prey. Each of its great paws leaving an imprint on the shaking ground below. Seeing the wolf leaving the temple's outskirts, the beings still paralyzed in fear began to scatter, but their innate hunger overtook their fear for the wolf and they started following it, closely behind, to its new prey. Their beady eyes filled with hate, now, displaying their anticipation of consuming fresh blood and flesh.
