Welcome Home

“Starting from today this is your new home,” Kavan shouted happily.

Sim gawked up at the huge wooden structure that stood at the center of the town. With no one around, he let loose a yawn and started walking toward the entrance of the building with a blank expression on his face.

“I am going home,” Sim yawned.

I will destroy it if you dare take another step forward,” Kavan threatened.

“What is your deal?” Sim yelled.

“Sim, if you didn’t wake last night you could have died there!” Kavan scolded.

“It was my suggestion to move you to the dorms cause all you do is mope if you stay at the apartment,” Isla smirked.

“We were worried and now you are picking fights with guilds?” Roman chided.

With a quick gaze behind him, he noticed his luggage and belongings piled near the guild dorm. He picked them up and began trudging toward his new home angrily. As he arrived he glanced up and his eyes landed on a giant sign that read “Welcome Home!”.

Sim didn’t look impressed; he glared daggers at the sign before stomping into the guild building. Once he entered the room he slammed his luggage against the floor and began throwing them into different corners of the room. Once he found some room, he continued to throw them in random directions until there was nothing left. He groaned out loud as he lay down.

“Oh, someone is in a bad mood today!” Isla laughed.

“Shut up!” Sim shouted.

‘Thump,’

“We have another surprise for you,” Roman smiled.

They handed him armor which had a crest on them. On the crest was a single dragon curled around the moon, with wings spread wide open. The crest reminded him of the emblem he designed for a fairytale book when he was younger.

He remembered scribbling it in a lost notebook his friend took and never bothered to return it to its original owner. It was a simple design, yet the symbol inspired him when writing it down.

“I regret making you so happy-go-lucky,” Sim muttered.

‘Thump,’

“Come with me!” Kavan asked.

Sim laid the new clothing down as he followed Kavan through several corridors toward a large room where a table and chairs were set on either side of it and a few people sitting there. Everyone stopped what they were doing and stared at Sim. They were all staring at him, he could feel their looks of pity.

Kavan smacked the large billboard full of slips of paper as he noticed had a different quest to do with different ranks and numbers. Sim glanced around, the whole room had a lot of players who were staring at him silently.

“Everyone, may I present Sim as he is the new recruit, F rank so I hope you will help him get stronger!” Kavan announced, clapping.

They ignored his presence as Kavan felt nervous about the silent treatment Sim was receiving from everyone, but he tried to put on a smile as he walked over and shook hands with those closest to him.

“Now that I have introduced Sim to everyone, I believe I will go and get something to eat,” Kavan stated. Kavan hurried out of the room.

After putting on such a fake act Sim went back to studying the assignments on the board, while he listened to the voices of others. They continued discussing the current state of affairs as he remained calm. There was more than a hint of worry among them, but he refused to give any of them a reason to be concerned about him.

“Umm…” A voice chimed.

Sim turned round to see who was poking him in the leg with their index finger pointing toward one of the boards. They were looking at him excitedly waiting for him to respond.

“Is there anything else I can help you with?” Sim asked politely.

The person was small with white hair with long tendrils in the front. She had a big smile on his face with bright gray eyes and he was wearing a loose top and tight high-cut jeans.

“No! Well…” The girl trailed.

Her cheeks reddened as she struggled to find words.

“Just spit it out, what do you want?” Sim asked impatiently.

“I n-need help,” She smiled.

‘Thump,’

‘Fuck…my chest still hurts from yesterday,’ He thought.

‘Thump,’

The next thump caused the world to spin as he grabbed a hold of the girl for support. His breath was shallow and his chest hurt even more.

“Hey, are you alright?” The girl smiled.

“I…fine..” Sim whispered.

He collapsed into her arms and tried to catch him as she began holding onto him tightly unable to shake him awake.

“HELP!” She shouted.

“Caspar, I am right here and wasn’t even far,” The tall man smirked.

“Oh, big brother Caleb!” Capar smiled.

“Let’s bring him to Ms. Theia,” Caleb laughed.

Caleb tossed Sim over his shoulder his sack of rice. Once they reached it Caspar opened the door revealing a nurse who was busy preparing something.

“Just toss him on the bed,” She sighed.

“How the hell do you know every single time?” Caleb asked.

She kicked Sim’s shoes off as she lit her cigarette then placed it in her mouth as she continued working on whatever she was cooking.

“He got into a fight with the churchy ass guild and one of the members pummeled his ass,” Theia huffed.

“I would rather die than challenge those weirdos!” Caspar replied.

“I am not sure what prompted Kavan to allow him to join, but he could have ruined us by challenging their members,” She mumbled.

“Fuck…” Sim whispered.

“Oh, you are awake!” Caspar shouted.

“Don’t fucking yell!” Sim snapped.

His head pounded and he couldn’t muster enough energy to speak as he weakly gripped the edge of the bed sheets, Capar chuckled at how cute Sim looked as he gently stroked the top of his head.

“I can already guess what spell fucked you up,” Theia laughed.

“You are pretty,” Sim smiled.

Caleb smacked Sim’s hands angrily from Caspar as Caspar began to laugh loudly the nurse rolled her eyes at the sibling's antics as she finished.

“You are getting the wrong idea, Caspar is a boy” Caleb scolded.

“W-WHAT?!” Sim shouted.

“Glad to meet you, mister,” Caspar laughed.

“Just kill me already!” Sim blurted out.

He smashed the pillow over his head as the other three laughed hysterically at him. Kavan knocked, distracting everyone in the room.

“Caleb, you decided to help the newbies huh?” Kavan laughed.

He noticed Sim’s face was reddened due to the embarrassment he knew exactly why. Caleb had his arms crossed standing above Sim, his body stiff. as he stared at Sim with annoyance.

“That’s what you get for acting like a brat!” He said coldly.

“Why does he dress like a girl!” Sim yelled.

“Why, Caleb, aren’t you being protective?” Kavan teased.

Caspar kicked his feet back and forth happily. Caleb’s face darkened as he glared down at Sim.

He raised his hand slowly and slapped him across the face.

“What the fuck is your problem?!” He yelled. Sim flinched.

“I am in charge of you from this point on and you need to get your act together,” Caleb shouted.

“Huh?” Sim responded.

The room became silent.

“So you agree that your behavior is unacceptable now?” Caleb questioned.

“Yea...I guess so,” Sim replied.

“Good. Let me take you downstairs,” Caleb instructed.

The nurse placed her hand out as she pushed her cigarette into the ashtray. She watched the scene with concern. She saw the way Caleb was towering over Sim’s small frame and the anger he was showing.

“You need to learn to control your emotions or we are going to have a problem,” She said.

“I am more concerned if Sim is okay to leave right now…the report came back and Gravel one of the followers got him pretty hard for the contrasting levels this shouldn’t have happened,” Kavan noted.

“I am pretty sure I am fine now!” Sim stated.

Caleb smiled and cracked his knuckles as he gazed at Sim menacingly. Sim gulped nervously.

“How about I break the newbie's ribs? I will even show you my stats!” Caleb smirked.

Sim’s mind shot back instantly to when he felt the great power of the water serpent trying to drown him. It scared him to death, but he refused to show any emotion. He wanted people to think he was just as scary as the serpent itself, but the fact of the matter was he was a coward.

He was nervous as he could feel Caleb's aura emanating in every direction and sending shivers of fear down Sim’s spine.

“I-I do not wanna fight!” Sim laughed.

“Good choice…” Caspar smiled.

It looked like Caleb and Caspar were a team it looked and it was almost terrifying how Caspar's face contorted saying those words in an icy tone of voice.
