Chapter 2 : I hate spiders

{Day 1}

Not this again arrrrrghhhhh. I try to scream but all that escapes my mouth is a parched groan. For the second time in my life I'm surrounded by complete darkness.

Goodness and I thought that I'd already got past this, here I am again reliving this hellish experience. Hey mysterious God this isn't cool at all, you hear me not cool. Wow I think I have ptsd now, never again... never again do I want to experience this feeling.

Wait a second, why am I putting up with this bullshit, I need to escape. With all the strength that I can muster (not a lot in my case) I proceed to slam my body against anything that I can.

Ouch! That actually hurt a lot.

[Your currently at below 10% of your health proceed with caution.]

You've got to be actually joking with me right now, below 10%. 10 goddamn percentttttttt! How is this possible? All I did was smash into the edge a few times and your telling me I almost died. How weak is this body... wait you know what I don't even want to know. Well, well first day and I've almost died already, the future is looking very promising right now. Maybe I should name my life, adventure of the deceased because at this rate I'm really going to die.

I continue to rant and complain to myself; that is until I hear a loud CRACK sound reverberating into my ears.

About time I mutter. This time round instead of smashing myself against the surface that's covering me, I instead push my weight against it. Hahahahah. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice and I'LL GODDAMN KILL YOU!

After releasing my pent-up frustration, the diabolical surface seems to give in. Opening me up to a view of my surroundings. Light quickly penetrates my sheltered eyes, making sure to dowse them with it's bright radiance.

It hurts, it hurts my eyes. The searing bright light attacks my eyes repeatedly like a stupid NPC that you would find in a video game. It takes a while for my eyes to adjust and fight back against the current seige from the sunlight emperor.

After fighting in a great war, my eyes seem to win against the crazy sunlight bastards and they proceed to adjust accordingly. There you go much better, now I can actually see.

I open my eyes to be greeted by a beautiful view of roughly 500 other eggs laying inside what seem to be the inside of a tree. CICADA ARMY! Now if a cicada had any facial expression you would be seeing the darkest look of horror on my face. What's going on I'm so confused.

Now hear me out quickly, from my knowledge I thought that female cicada's gave birth to a few eggs at most not 400-600. If I had known maybe I would have thought twice before picking this option. Actually, reconsidering it I probably would have still picked cicada as it was the best option anyway.

The problem in front of me wasn't only this though. OOh nononono. This was the least of my problems. What was my problem was a group of green spiders, which where busy devouring my yet to be born brothers and sisters, engulfing the eggs. Right now there were about 6 spiders, all enjoying their 5 star meals of cicada paste, cicada juice as well as eggcelent cicada.

Brothers...sisters no don't die. Don't worry I won't leave you alone whilst doing nothing. How could I do such a horrible and evil thing such as that, do you question my pride as a cicada. No instead of doing something so utterly unacceptable as that, I will instead proceed to leave you whilst running. See, what a wonderful person I am, am I right. Instead of leaving my brethren whilst doing nothing I'm instead leaving them after doing something.

Anyway you can't fault me, where's my mother right now, shouldn't she be driven by some sort of animatistic instinct to protect her children or something.

[Cicada mothers leave their children without a single care after birth, leaving them to live and survive by themselves]

Wow talk about shit mothers. So my mothers negligence is now affecting me, anyway it's not safe here I need to escape and quickly.

I slowly bring myself to start moving my skinny little legs. I could fly but if I did that I would garner the attention of the spider invaders and that would be an early death route. We don't want that now do we.

Shaking my head to get the stupid idle thoughts out of my mind I proceed to check out my surroundings. Operation ArcLight commence. Firstly, I search for an exit, glaring around the dark brown interior of the oak tree. Surely, enough after spinning my head like a beyblade I find one and thank the heavens it's not covered in spider webs. If that had happened things would've become quite troublesome.

Okay the relatively easy part is done, now all I need to do is navigate myself towards the exit without getting caught. Before that its best to check my stats, maybe I have some quirks or abilities I don't know about.

Stolen story; please report.

Inside my head I quickly shout out " STATUS" hoping that it will work. It should work right. Surely enough, after a few seconds my status screen pops out.

[Name: None]

[Class: None]

[Species: Common Venom Cicada]

[Level: 1/10 [XP: 0/100 [Status: Alive somehow]

[HP: 2/30 [MP: 0/0 [Stamina: 100/100]

[Stats:

Strength : 15

Defense : 7

Speed : 20

Intelligence : 25

Luck : -10 ]

[Skills: Weak poison bite(lvl 1), Poison stab(lvl 1), Acidic mucus(lvl 1)]

Wow talk about top tier trash skills. I mean I wasn't expecting anything much... hmmm JUST A DAMN CHEAT SKILL! Come on I've never heard of someone being reincarnated without a cheat skill. That's like bread without butter, milk without cheese, anime without waifu's. It's totally unprecedented.

The skills I've got are totally garbo as well, acidic mucus... are you crazy I repeat acidic mucus. Well anyway I don't have much time to worry about something like that right now considering the dire situation I'm in.

Ohhh wait.. what's this I missed a little subsection underneath skills on the status board. Gosh if I didn't have a gamers instinct to double-check everything I could have missed it. Anyway, enough pondering lets check it out.

[Titles: Early Riser, Void Eater]

"Hey system can you give me a basic descriptions of what these titles do"

[Host forgot magic word.}

"Please."(gosh this stupid Neanderthal is still going on about that.)

[Early Riser: title given to the first new life to be born of the batch, benefits +5 speed stat]

That explains why my speed stat was higher than my others except intelligence. Okay how about the other one. I've got a good feeling about this one, it sounds quite badass.

[Void Eater: Unique skill given to the user by the God of ######## who saw your brave efforts and struggles that you made during the time you were stuck in the void. Special effects: gives user one skill from the prey that the host defeats. Skill is presented as a card which the user picks from random out of a range of cards. Only one skill can be obtained from the creature of that species, unless a named individual is encountered in which case one skill from the named individuals can be taken.]

There it is my cheat skill. WOW, I didn't expect that to happen. It's actually quite broken, yesssss I got a cheat skill, let's go. I'm invincible, indestructible, undefeatable....

GYAHH!!!

The loud sound of the hungry spiders brought me back to reality. Reminding me of the harsh reality of the situation that I was in and the fact that I could die at any moment. It reminded me that although, I had a strong skill it meant nothing if I died.

Okay let's get going.

Slowly and surely I started moving my tiny legs step by step towards the exit making sure to hide behind the cicada eggs to not get caught. I made sure to stop moving and stop my breathing every time a spider got close, after all if I got caught I would die, no two ways about it. I repeated this stop and start action for about 10 minutes, each time making sure not to make even a pin drop of noise.

Repeating this action again and again gained me the stealth skill to my surprise.

[Skill: Stealth(lvl 1) obtained.]

Things were going well proceeding to plan as I passed through the exit until.... until a young spider gazed at my back as I was glancing back.

Oh no. It seems that I have been spotted.

KWAHHHH! The spider yelled making a loud sound before glaring at me.

As it was piercing it's multiple ugly eyes through my soul, I felt a mild sense of discomfort. Obviously, I was scared of this creature, eventhough it was smaller than the others. Despite being scared of it I realised that this wasn't the source of my discomfort.

[System believes host is being appraised.]

Being appraised, what this stupid hairy looking neptode was appraising me. It looked at me for a few seconds before deeming that it could take me in battle. The adult spiders surrounding the inside of the tree also gazed at me for a second before continuing their meal.

It looks like they don't consider me as much of a threat so they've just left me for the young spider to have. That's good, it's good they thought that way because if they all came for me, no scratch that if even one adult came for me I would be as good as dead.

Realising that the longer I stayed here the more unfavourable my situation became I decided to make the quickest decision, well more like first decision I'd ever made in my tiny cicada life. Taking a leap of faith I jumped out of the tree trunk, heading straight down to the ground.

Come on wings work, work... work. For a few seconds I thought that my body would go plummeting to the ground, resulting in a splendid delicacy of cicada paste, however eventually my tiny wings decided to stop fooling around and started buzzing.

WOOO, I can fly. My small skeletal body started soaring through the air, getting gently tugged by the cool icy air. Looking back for a second I could see the surprised look of the young spider as it shivered in range.

Well what did it think would happen, was it stupid of course I could fly I'm a cicada after all. Thinking that I had lost it, I started to relax and calm down. Oh how wrong was I.

The spider obviously upset by my unexpected stunt quickly started throwing shots of string at me trying to reel me back in. I quickly maneuvered my body dodging to the left and right, each time just narrowly avoiding the strings by a hairs-width. Sweat beads started dripping down my body as it was in a state of mass concentration. I knew that if I was hit I done for.

Aggravated the spider decided to shoot more webs, using its stupid logic that the more the better. Actually it was quite rude to call the idea stupid as it was making it much more difficult to avoid the strings.

[ALERT Stamina is low, wings will soon stop working due to overexertion.]

NONONONONO. Dammit this was the worst timing for something like this to happen because although I wasn't that high up if I fell then I would die due to being on 2 health points. Deciding the best course for my survival I decided to land on the ground.

Luckily I had just entered outside of the spider's shooting range. The spider seeing this grew annoyed but soon realised that it could swing on the trees surrounding me to quickly reach where I was without worry since I was low on stamina. Knowing that I was vulnerable it was about to take its plan into action, however an adult spider quickly stopped it.

It seemed that the adult was protective over the child and knowing the dangers of the outside forest for a young spider,it pulled the youngster in. It was probably trying to tell the aggravated spider that there was plenty of food in the tree already. Realising it wasn't going to win an argument with the adult spider the young one relented retreating back into the tree.

Phew! I am finally safe. Well sort of. Knowing the potential dangers of the forest I decided to hide underneath a pile of leaves. It wasn't the safest home, however right now my body was tired and I had almost died so I wasn't in the mood to be picky.

Lamenting over the loss of my original home as well as my siblings, a burning passion ignited in my heart. These spiders which took everything from me would know my wrath, especially that young spider that antagonized me. I promised myself that when I grew stronger I would have my revenge, death.... death was coming for these spiders. It would be coming, coming very soon.
