Chapter 27: An Ominous Feeling

Chapter 27: An Ominous Feeling

People in the southern districts were going about their business as usual. There were more guards and people quickly roaming about, but since this didn’t particularly concern them everyone was just going about their day.

However, as the passerbyers occasionally turned to the sky they would see a flash of silver fly by as a Knight fully clad in armor shot from rooftop to rooftop. The Knights' armor was entirely made out of silver engraved with dozens of complex etchings and a white cloth hung on his right shoulder hiding his right arm. His helmet was shaped like that of a lion completely covering his face. And his entire body exuded a white light that was only amplified by the sun and the shiny armor he wore.

The knight would occasionally stop atop a roof and raise his hands, pausing there only for a few moments before dashing away. This knight was naturally Hiro in his magic armor. He used his mana to shape the armor in such a way that made him appear taller and bulkier despite his age.

This way if people were to look at him there was no way they could figure out that in truth an eleven-year-old was in that suit of armor. He also made sure the helmet completely covered his face and even made it difficult to see his eyes so that way they wouldn’t notice his peculiar black eye.

Hiro turned to the ground and notice several knights searching the perimeter and shook his head. It was simply far too inefficient to roam the busy streets like that to search for a someone. So instead Hiro took the skies jumping from roof to roof while occasionally using a spell to search for his sister.

This made it far easier to search through the expansive southern districts. Though there were some stores with barriers that made it impossible for him to look inside, he noted them down and got his father to send people to inspect them.

But these stores were mainly magic stores run by reputable salesman or nobles so it was unlikely for them to be harboring criminals. Instead, Hiro was more interested in the back alley stores and locations with barriers.

Soon enough one of Hiro’s spell hit a barrier and he turned around, he poured mana into his black eye and then the Baron’s figure appeared before him. He signaled his father to descend and quickly pulled out a sword from his eye.

He dropped down into a dark alley and put his left up against a wall. There was a barrier covering the building, but it was only designed to prevent sound from leaking out and to hide from observation spells. So naturally, the spell did nothing to defend the actual building.

Hiro gathered mana around his palm and slowly pushed it into the building creating a tiny hole in the wall. Hiro quickly grabbed his eye through his helmet and the eye quickly shrunk to fit through the hole. He pushed the eye causing it to fly through the room and closed his eyes.

Soon enough an image of the entire room filled Hiro’s head, as soon as he realized the coast was clear he signaled his father. The baron nodded from his mist and rapidly chanted a spell before turning into mist himself.

The mist leaked into the room through the hole before reforming into the Baron. The Baron quickly looked around before crouching down and hiding as the earlier spell undid his invisibility spell and he began casting the spell again. The Baron whispered, “Go ahead.”

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

With those words, Hiro retracted his eye and continued back to the rooftops. As Hiro landed on his roof he sighed, “This city's too big.”

It’s been several hours since he started searching the district with his father, and even as fast as they were going there were too many buildings with barriers. In the end, his father even got into a fight with some criminals selling illegal goods in his search for his sister.

Naturally, his father just simply froze everyone to death and he didn’t have much difficulty fending them off, but this was a waste of time. Surely the culprits were well aware that there was a large number of personnel looking for them. It was unlikely they would just sit still and do nothing.

However, in the end, it was impossible to conduct a massive wide scale search to search for a few individuals. And it would be a problem if they neglected an area and be forced to backtrack.

As Hiro raised his hand and released another pulse of mana, suddenly he felt the ground shake violently. He turned to the western part of the district, “What was that?”

Suddenly his father appeared beside him, “We should check that out.”

Hiro nodded his head, and a pair of white wings unfurled from his back. He quickly shot towards the district when suddenly he felt a cold chill.

“This feeling…”

Hiro frowned from behind his helmet and unfurled another pair of wings causing himself to accelerate further. Something felt wrong, no something was wrong. Something deep inside him told him that whatever was ahead of him, whatever was waiting for him was dangerous, no worse…

Hiro clenched his fist, he was familiar with this feeling it was engraved in his very soul. For the last nine centuries, he and his fell Hero’s had fought someone who gave him this sort of feeling. Eleven years ago he had died fighting someone who gave him dread feeling. And just a few days ago he nearly died fighting someone who gave him this feeling.

Soon enough he reached a warehouse and cast a spell scanning the region, but he felt a powerful barrier that not only blocked his spell but retaliated. Hiro summoned a sword and struck the barrier causing it to collapse.

Hiro frowned and struck the roof of the warehouse and soon enough a field of blood and corpses came into view. As he looked around there were dozens of men in robes and armor with their upper bodies completely torn off or their lower body. Some of these men and women were merely pieces of limbs of organs or even torn off heads lying on the ground.

Entrails were left everywhere, and the blood was fresh the stench filling the air. And as he looked down he noticed there was a familiar young man. He was a child who was only eleven years old, his hair was brown, and his body was soaked entirely in blood. In his hands, he was holding an unconscious little girl and behind him was a familiar black haired girl.

Hiro descended falling to the ground retracting his four white wings. Then the large doors to the warehouse burst open and dozens of knights walked in led by Noel before finally, the Baron descended from the hole Hiro opened up.

As the baron took form he looked at the child in shock and asked, “Quinn?”

Quinn walked forward smiling, “Hello Father.”
