Chapter 24: On the Other Side of the Fence

Chapter 24: On the Other Side of the Fence

In one of the dorm rooms of the academy sat what appeared to be a thick black cocoon on a bed. The black cocoon was relatively large taking up most of the bed and as it pulsed a black wave of light would shoot out before being absorbed into the walls.

This cocoon remained like this, pulsing over and over again for hours and the longer it went the faster the cocoon would beat. Soon enough the pulsing of the cocoon increased to the point where it was practically just vibrating.

Then suddenly the cocoon stopped, it’s soft exterior seemed to immediately harden before its surface began to crack. A fist suddenly burst through the cocoon and a girl with purple hair suddenly popped out of the cocoon.

The girl looked around the room in confusion when suddenly a voice called out from beside her, “Oh you’re finally awake.”

The girl turned to the side and she saw a brown-haired child sitting down, and asked, “Quinn?”

“Here”, Quinn threw a shirt at the girl and said, “Put that on.”

“Eh?”, the girl looked down at herself and noticed that she was bare naked, “Wha-”

The purple haired girl turned red as she quickly put on the white shirt that was a few sizes too big for her. Quinn turned around to give the girl a bit of privacy and said, “So you’re Karen I presume?”

The girl paused, “How... how do you know that name?”

“Pandora told me.”

Karen looked down and asked, “Just how much do you know.”

“Nothing really, but more than my brother at least. If anything I wanna know just how much you know.”

Karen looked at her purple hair that was previously black and said, “Not much really, Pandora sort of filled me in on what happened…”

Karen clenched her fists, “Why, this isn’t how things were supposed to go...”

Quinn turned around, “And how were they supposed to go?”

“But he was so kind! He was a bit off, but he was rather approachable. A lot of people seemed to stay away from him but it was more out of respect than fear. He was powerful, and he helped others. I even learned from one of the nurses that he’d saved some commoners from bandits and even became friends with the prince! There was no sign that this was gonna happen…”

Karen slammed her fist down on the cocoon, “This wasn’t supposed to happen. It all escalated too quickly, I couldn’t do a thing…”

Then suddenly Karen’s face paled as she recalled the scene of her blasting Hiro’s eye and arm off, “Wait what happened to Hiro!”

“Hmmm? Well, my brother was found dead in his room two days ago. This became a huge scandal and it delayed the upcoming tournament. He was found with an eye and an arm missing. He also appeared to have received other injuries and one of his windows was busted open.”

Karen covered her mouth in shocked, “I-”

“Killed him? Of course not, he doesn’t die that easily.”

“But you just said!”

“I know what I said, he was found dead, or at the very least there was a corpse in my brother's room who had similar wounds that you inflicted onto him I presume.”

Karen nodded her head, “Back in the sphere Pandora took his right arm and eye…”

“Then he’s alive.”

Karen shouted, “How can you be sure!”

“Because you didn’t rip his heart out, you didn’t sever his head, you didn’t erase his existence or destroy his soul, and most importantly you didn’t see the corpse.”

“...”

Quinn turned back around and grabbed a kettle filled with hot water and began making some tea. He turned his head and asked, “Do you want some tea?”

Karen nodded her head slowly, and Quinn turned back around. He slowly set out two teacups and grabbed several biscuits from the cupboard. Karen slowly got out of the cocoon and sat down on the chair.

Quinn poured himself a cup of tea before passing one over to Karen. Karen looked down at her cup of tea, and asked, “Hey Quinn…”

“What is it?”

“You saved me right?”

“Naturally.”

“But…” Karen looked up at quick slightly confused, “How?”

Quinn took a sip of his tea, and smiled, “What do you mean?”

“I share a body with Pandora, but we normally I’m the only one really doing anything. It’s simply too dangerous to let Pandora use our body you see. But despite being in the same body we don’t inherently share memories. So I’ve just been catching up on what’s been going on. Just how did you get us out of that sphere?”

Karen looked back at Pandora’s memories and recalled the independent space within the black sphere was collapsing. The force of an independent space exploding was more than enough to cause a large explosion that would cause widespread damage, and it was almost guaranteed to kill the person inside.

Karen knew even with Pandora’s powers there was no way to escape said explosion and they had no other choice but to take on the full force of the explosion. With Pandora’s powers it wouldn’t kill them, however, they’d still be in pretty bad shape.

However as the independent space was about to implode a hand tore right through the sphere and then plucked them straight out.

Karen looked at Quinn and asked, “I thought you couldn’t use magic, or you weren’t interested in magic?”

“I’m not interested in magic.”

“Then how did you just rip open that sphere!?”

“I mean all I did was stick my hand out, grab the sphere, and tore it apart. It’s not that hard.”

“Ah geez,” Karen took a sip of her tea, before sticking her tongue out, “Ew what kind of tea is this?”

“I’m not entirely sure, but I remember seeing that it was rather cheap back in the markets.”

“Aren’t you from a family of merchants? Why are you using cheap tea?”

Quinn thought about it before saying, “It’s nostalgic.”
