White POV:
We spent at least twenty minutes trying to find the “correct” way out of the caldera…
Until I said fuck it and we scaled our way out of there.
Right now we are going through one of the Trails. The Trails are paths that the pack have chosen to increase the effectivity of our hunting patterns; they separate different hunting zones and only a certain amount of game are allowed to be hunted in any individual zone. Once all the zones are depleted, the pack moves on to the next forest.
And the reason why there is only one generation that I have seen, besides our parents, is because breeding is only allowed at the time the pack arrives at a new forest.
*sniff* *sniff*
We both come to a halt as I come across the scent of our first prey. I give Riuro the preliminary of what I can smell.
“Female, boar, wounded. I can smell something else close to it, not sure what it is though. Boar should be big, hopefully. This way.” White
We dash off into the forest, slow enough to not alert the entirety of the forest of our position, but fast enough that we can get to it before some coyotes, or anything else for that matter.
There is a profound shift in Riuro’s behavior. Before, while we were on the path, she would be constantly humming or something close to it. Chipper as can be, despite the whole dead brother thing.
I suppose getting a second chance at living can brighten just about anyones mood. And no doubt she’s already gotten used to the pain of losing family. After all, litter’s start out very big.
Now, she’s almost as quiet as I am; hell she’s probably even quieter.
Our journey doesn’t last long and we are finally allowed to pay witness to what very may well be our impending doom.
Humans.
They had already gotten the boar tied to a pole and they were hoisting it up for them to carry away. I didn’t get a chance to tell Riuro not to kill them before she was already bolting of towards them.
‘This reckless idiot!’
“Semfa, sokon-- Gadra!” Hunter 1
The hunter’s spoke in a foreign language that I couldn’t understand for the life of me. The first one was slightly skinnier and wielded a bow and knives while the other was bigger in comparison and had a spear and axe. Riuro went for the first hunter.
While they were still in the middle of a conversation, she rushed the first hunter and clamped down into his side, most likely puncturing his intestines and cracking a rib or two. His partner was quick to act and pulled out his spear to strike at her, but that was before I clamped down on his elbow. I felt it shatter beneath the considerable force I applied, slightly excited by the wonderful taste of fresh, still living blood.
I planted my hind legs onto the side of his torso while wrenching my mouth around his arm, feeling a pop and then hearing, between his wailing, the sound of his shoulder being ripped from the rest of his body. After I was sent flying by the force of my own legs, I took a glance at how Riuro was doing.
She had pushed the human down and clamped her mouth around his throat. There also appeared to be a superficial puncture wound to the side of her spine, however it looked as though it hadn’t hit anything important seeing how there was little blood and she could still move.
When I landed on the ground I decided that having a screaming victim, along with the smell of fresh blood, may not be the best idea, so I promptly dropped the arm and turn to jump onto my victim; who is already about to fall to the ground due to the agony he is experiencing.
Before he loses balance completely I jump onto his torso and clamp my mouth around his exposed throat. I also get my first taste of adams apple. Sinewy.
Human meat is not that good now that I’ve had the chance to eat some. There isn’t any fat for their body to act as natural armor, and their bodies just don’t have that… oomph that I’ve tasted in other creatures.
I wonder why that is?
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
Also their blood tastes unnecessarily sour and tangy. Disgusting. I wonder why the taste was different in his arm as opposed to his throat?
I raise my head and am greeted by the blood soaked visage of Riuro. She looks as though she wants to ask me a question.
“What is it?” White
“Are you always that… rough, with your prey?” Riuro
“I don’t understand?” White
“N-nevermind… Is it just me or do these pink things taste…” Riuro
“Terrible?” White
“Sorry I forgot how I was supposed to swish my tail for that one. But yeah, they taste worse than that time I accidently swallowed a piss sack.”Riuro
I raise an eyebrow at her.
“Why did you--” White
“Oh look there's the boar! Let’s get going!~” Riuro
She then clamps her jaw on one end of the spigot and starts running in the direction of another Trail.
‘*sigh* this one will be trying. On the bright side, at least she is quick and quiet when she is trying to kill something.’
I bite the other end of the spigot to prevent a track tail from forming.

Red POV:
*sniff* *sniff*
‘Why do I smell dead humans? Why do I smell living humans, for that matter?’
I traverse the Trails that I helped to lay and come across a slightly startling sight; the two dead corpses of humans. I can also smell the blood of a boar, my nephew, and a female wolf.
I go over to the cleanly killed corpse of the archer. I smell the blood of that other wolf, so she must have been the one to kill it. I do a slight search of his corpse, but don’t find any bones or other trophies.
‘Must have been new to hunting. Gonna have to scold that pup for getting wounded by such a green hunter. Looks like she went for his side before rendering him harmless, mistakes like that kill you. Let’s look at my nephews handiwork.’
The scene was… drastically different. The hunter was rendered harmless… completely harmless. I have only even see this kind of strength in fully grown adults, or these tactics for that matter.
It appeared as though he used his legs to generate enough power for him to rip the arm clear off at the shoulder. He seems to have also collapsed the majority of that sides ribs, ensuring death even if he somehow managed to survive the initial exchange. Then he had his throat ripped out just like the other one to silence him.
‘Ruthless. It also looks like he had no intention of feeding from this one. That either means that he was either smart enough not to try and bring them or was just plain reckless. Lets hope it was the former.’
It appeared as though the bodies had been here for about a day.
“Woah…” Red
The number of trophies this hunter has is both enormous and varied. Bear teeth, Weaval fangs, Vampire fingers--
“Devos simpra cantaros!” Human female
‘Damn, if there’s anything I hate more than Lightning Elk, it’s humans.’
I made my way away from the area.
‘That nephew of mine is going to make things interesting, to say the least.’
