OLIVER
It was just another house.
“Sweetheart, would you quit moping back there?” Oliver’s mother, Carol, called from the front seat. She turned and smiled at her son, she patted his knee gently. “Your father and I think you will love it in Pikesville. When we went to look at the house, it was the only one for miles. You’ll be able to shift whenever you want!” His mother assured him.
Oliver didn't say anything. He was too old for teen angst, but he was also too old to be chaperoned around by his parents. So he chose to be angsty anyway. His twin sister was sitting in the seat next to him and his two older brothers were crammed into the back. Normally Oliver would have been forced into the far back seat and his eldest brother would be sitting in his spot, but the whole family had decided to give Oliver a break because he was already in a terrible mood.
“Cheer up bro! You just graduated, maybe you can be a therapist in Pikesville.” Oliver’s brother Theodore had leaned forward and clapped his hand on Oliver’s shoulder. Oliver snorted at his brother’s lack of understanding of how a psychology degree worked. He had a bachelor's degree, he would need another 6 years of college to become a therapist. Oliver knew his degree would go to waste in Pikesville. Oliver shook him off and gave his brother a death glare. His brother was a little over a year older than him and had absolutely no desire to move out on his own. He worked as a mechanic wherever they moved to and was, in Oliver’s opinion, as dumb as the cars he worked on.
“That’s not going to make him feel better. You know he’s really upset because he didn’t finish sleeping with the entire population of Lousiville.” Oliver’s eldest brother Kyle laughed, which got Theodore chuckling too. Kyle was 28 and always got everything he ever wanted. Oliver twisted around and tried his best to punch his brother but couldn’t quite reach him. “Shut up Kyle!”
“Boys! Knock it off! Jesus! You want me to treat you like grown men yet you continue to act like little boys, I swear to God!” Gerald still kept his gaze on the road. He didn't need to look at his boys to get them to shut up.
“Oliver’s just mad because I called him out for being a hoe,” Kyle whispered to Theodore and the two began giggling again. Oliver heard him fine, and Kyle knew it. They both had enhanced hearing. Oliver chose to ignore him and put in his earbuds.
Nobody spoke much more until they reached their destination. By the time the family pulled into the driveway of their new home everyone was tired and grumpy. Their belongings showed up only minutes before they did and the movers were just starting to unload their items. Oliver began unloading any boxes labeled “Oliver", while his brothers raced off to fight over which bedroom belonged to who. His sister was unloading boxes labeled “Olivia". They were sure to accidentally grab each other's boxes with such similar names, they knew that from experience.
“I get why you’re so upset that Mom and Dad decided to pack up the entire family and come with you to college" Olivia handed her brother a box with his name on it. “And I know that you were hoping now that you’ve graduated they’d finally let up. Sometimes I think they need to back off as well.” She smiled faintly at Oliver and he smiled back, he had no reason to be angry with his sister.
“Most people our age are living in their first apartments and thinking about what they’re going to do with the rest of their lives. I just feel trapped, does dad expect us to stay together forever? I don’t want to do that.” Oliver and Olivia walked together towards the house.
“Most people our age don’t turn into wolves in their spare time. Give Dad a break. I'm sure he doesn’t expect to keep us forever. Mingus and Dingus over there have no desire to leave. You and I are the first to actually want to get out on our own.”
Oliver wasn’t sure if he believed his sister or not. She also never really showed any interest in leaving, just like their older brothers.
Oliver brought the box he was carrying into the house. He looked around the house and was surprised by how nice it was. The houses they had lived in before had never been shacks, but they were always very “middle class”. Especially compared to this place. Oliver wondered how his family could afford such a nice place, but he thought it would be rude to ask his father so he just shrugged off the thought and began heading upstairs. His brothers had already claimed their rooms. Theodore was unpacking his weight set and setting it up in the corner of his room. He looked up as Oliver was passing and smiled. “This place is really nice isn’t it? There’s a lot more space than the last place. We don’t have to share a room anymore!” This was a huge relief to Oliver as he had been sharing a bedroom with his brother since he was about 12. Kyle got his own room because he insisted he deserved it because he was the oldest by a large margin. Luckily for Kyle, around the time he started complaining about getting his own room, it was time to move again and his parents had already begun thinking about getting a place with more rooms as they were beginning to think that the twins were getting too old to share a room with them being 12 and opposite genders. So, Olivia got her own room because she was the only girl and Kyle got his own room because he was the oldest. This had left the two middle boys having to share a room for their entire teenage years. “Whoohoo!” He yelled over his shoulder at his brother. He continued down the hallway, passing the room claimed by Kyle and the room clearly taken by his parents with the king-size bed in it. There were two rooms left. The rooms not yet claimed faced each other on opposite sides of the hallway. Oliver poked his head into each room, decided there was really no difference between the two rooms, and walked into the one he was already facing. He sat the box he was carrying down and placed his hands on his hips. His own room. He was a little less grumpy now that he knew he would have his own space for the first time in his life. Olivia walked in behind him. “I guess I don’t get to choose my room.” She said.
“You snooze, you lose,” Oliver answered. Olivia rolled her eyes and turned toward the opposite bedroom.
“I would have chosen this room anyway!” She walked into the room and flipped her brother off after setting the box she was carrying down. Oliver snorted and flipped her off back.
After Oliver had gathered up all of the boxes with his name on them, he decided to go ahead and start emptying the boxes. It was getting pretty late at this point, but he knew he would have a terrible time sleeping tonight anyway since it was the first night in a new place. He started with the cylinder-shaped object laying on his bed. It was filled with his rolled-up posters from the last place they lived. Oliver had been meaning to take down a lot of the posters from the wall in the last place they lived as he was beginning to feel like he was getting too old to have posters hanging up in his bedroom. He had a hard time throwing them away when he took them down however and decided to just pack them up and bring them along just in case he changed his mind. He opened up the cylinder and pulled out the first poster. It was a poster of Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies. They were standing together with Orlando behind Keira with his arms around her. She was looking back at him very sultry. These movies had been Oliver’s bisexual awakening. He has had this poster for many years. He had this poster above his bed when he shared a bunk bed with Theodore when he was about 13. When he first got the poster he told himself he got it only because he thought Elizabeth Swan was hot. The longer he stared at it, however, and the more his attention lingered on Will Turner while he practiced his “alone time”, the more he came to realize he thought both of them were sexy. He came out as bisexual when he was about 16 to Olivia first. He slowly told the rest of the family throughout the years. His siblings understand that he likes boys and girls. His parents however keep mistaking him for being gay as they don’t fully understand the whole bisexual thing. They are supportive, however, so Oliver has decided not to press the matter, and if the time comes that he has a girlfriend to introduce to them he will try to explain it to them better. He has trouble imagining him ever being able to attract a woman, considering every woman he meets that he is interested in immediately thinks he is gay and he can’t get them to comprehend that he is trying to flirt with them. He has had no trouble attracting men for this same reason. So thus far he has only had boyfriends to bring home and meet the family. Oliver has made it a goal this year to try to get a girlfriend.

Oliver stared at the poster in his hands. There hasn’t been a “Pirates” movie out in years. The poster itself is still in good condition however and he does still like it. He has better things to masturbate to now so he doesn’t need it for that, but he still has an attachment to it. He decides to go ahead and hang it up on the wall. He goes through the rest of his posters and comes to the same conclusion with all of them. He had hoped he could decide to throw away at least a couple of them, but he had hung them all back up on his wall. He looked around the room and sighed. He liked them, I guess he isn’t too old for posters after all. After hanging up all of his posters he looks at the time and notices it is past midnight. He doesn’t hear any noises throughout the house. He figures everyone else is already asleep. He clears off his bed, crawls in, and dozes off.

Oliver was lounging in his room on his bed, scrolling through videos on his phone when there was a knock on his door. “Come in.” He called. The door opened and Olivia walked in, she sat on the foot of Oliver’s bed and stared at him. Oliver looked back at her and when she didn’t say anything he gestured wildly and said “Well? What do you want?” Olivia giggled at this and finally began.
“What would you think if I decided to take college classes?” She made a pouty face at Oliver and blinked at him rapidly, trying to be cute. Oliver found her obnoxious.
“I guess I would think why didn’t you do it while we were in Louisville?” Oliver set his phone on his chest and looked at his sister.
“Because Louisville was so much fun! There was such much to do! I don’t know how you were able to concentrate on school with everything going on around you!” Olivia said. Oliver thought she had a point, he knew his sister pretty well and knew how much she had partied the last four years. She basically lived the college experience without actually being enrolled in college with all of the frat parties she dragged Oliver to. She definitely would have flunked out of college in Louisville. “I think here, I could concentrate. I saw a community college when we drove into town. Maybe I could go there. Or maybe I’ll look at online options.” She paused a moment. “I don’t know. I feel like everyone has something to do, and I’m smarter than you and I figured if you can do it, so can I.”
Oliver rolled his eyes at her implication that she was smarter than him. “If you want to go, then go. Don’t let me stop you.” He picked his phone back up and began scrolling again. Olivia smiled at him,
“Will you help me apply?” She gave him a pouty look again and clasped her hands together. “Please?”
Oliver rolled his eyes at her and sighed. “I thought you were smarter than me?”
“Smarter, but intimidated.” She answered quickly. “Please help me?” She said it was a little less sweet this time. She was getting impatient and just wanted Oliver to do what she asked.
“Fine. Bring me your damn laptop.” Oliver set his phone down again and sat up.
Oliver helped Olivia fill out an application. He also helped her apply for financial aid so if she did get in, she could pay for it. Olivia hugged him in thanks and trodded off to her room.
Oliver was happy his sister was doing something with her life, but he was also a little sad because going to college had been his thing and his accomplishment. It was the thing he did that was separate from anyone in his family. He tried not to dwell on it. It wasn’t his place to gatekeep a college education from his sister.
After helping Olivia apply for college, Oliver decided to go exploring. Behind their house were some woods leading directly from their backyard. He thought it might be a great place to transform and go for a run. He walks into the woods as a human. He wants to gauge how deep these woods are before just transforming all willy-nilly. He walks for about five minutes, going deeper into the woods. He doesn’t see any signs of a clearing. He decides to play it safe and continue to walk as a human. It was a beautiful day, there were few clouds in the sky and the sun was beaming through the leaves above him. The trees kept him nice and shaded, so it was cool in the woods. Oliver loved being out in nature. He leaned against a tree and closed his eyes for a moment and just took in the sounds of all the small critters in the woods. He could hear birds chirping, chipmunks, and squirrels chattering. He heard a woodpecker somewhere in the distance. He took a deep breath and also took in the smells. It was a little humid so his sense of smell was a little dampened, but he could still smell the trees around him and the dirt and moss at his feet. He decided he waited long enough, He stripped off his shirt, his shorts, and his underwear. He laid them gently by the tree he was leaning on. He took mental note of where this tree was so he could return and retrieve his clothes later. He took one more deep breath in as a human before he transformed into his wolf form, he exhaled his breath in this form. He arched his back and stretched really big. After he stretched he took off in a trot in the direction he was heading before. He picked up speed the further he went. Soon he was sprinting through the trees. He zig-zagged in and out of the trees. He leaped over fallen trees and large rocks. He saw multiple squirrels and rabbits and decided it would be fun to chase them a bit. He did not want to catch them, he never hunted animals. He had plenty of food to eat at home, so he was never hungry enough to decide wild game would be his dinner. He just liked how they would run in a panic before finally scurrying up a tree or diving into a burrow. He never got tired of running in this form. As a human he was not a very fast runner, nor would he be able to run as long as he did as a wolf. It is exhilarating to be able to run this fast and for this long. He felt his heart pounding in his chest, and instead of it hurting as it may in his human form, it filled him with adrenaline. He came across a small stream, he was panting and thought it might be nice to drink. He remembered that he is a human inside this wolf however and that drinking out of a stream may not be very sanitary. Instead, he decided to just leap in and begin splashing around. This cools him down enough that he no longer felt the need for a drink. He shook the water off of himself and stretched again. He was just starting to think he maybe should start heading back toward his clothes and house when in the distance he heard a howl. The Howl was pretty far away judging by how it sounded, but it was unmistakable. Oliver’s ears perked up. He looked in the direction that the howl came from. Was that a wolf?
He decided it was a wolf howl as he didn’t know any other creature to howl, but was it a werewolf? That was the real question. Oliver thought it unlikely considering how he has never met another werewolf before. He continued staring in the direction the howl came from, waiting for another howl. If he could just hear it one more time while he was listening for it, he may be able to gauge if it was a regular wolf howl or a werewolf howl. He remained as quiet as possible and listened intently. Another howl does not come for a long time. When Oliver did hear another howl it was a bit closer. He notes that it most definitely sounded like a regular wolf. He was disappointed, but he didn’t expect anything different. He started the journey back toward his clothes. When he gets to the tree where his clothes are laying, before he transforms back into a human, he perks his ears up and listens again for another howl. A howl does not come. Oliver transforms back into his human form and begins pulling on his clothes. Once he is dressed he begins to walk back toward his house.
