Chapter 338

CHAPTER 338

Luna was born with a deficiency. She was only about three pounds when she was born, so she was put in an incubator as soon as she was born.

Austin's aunt, Jennifer, had a weak body as well. Before she could wait until Luna was out of the incubator, she didn't have any breast milk left. Thus, Luna was only breastfed for about half a month, and Jennifer always felt guilty for that.

In the end, Luna survived after staying in the incubator for more than a month.

Although she survived, she had a weak body and was always ill because of her deficiency. Throughout each year, she'd be on medication half of the time.

When she was young, since her veins were very thin, she had to be stabbed with the needle multiple times for her to receive an IV drip. Luna would cry hysterically, and Jennifer would join her in her tears because she felt sorry for her.

Since the house rules in the Penham Family were strict, all the five cousins received some sort of punishment apart from Luna. Only Luna was protected by Jennifer when she was young, and when she grew up, she had their Grandpa and Jennifer protecting her together. As such, no one had ever touched a strand of her hair.

But now, Luna was lying in a pool of blood with her life on the line.

What if she died? How would Austin explain it to his uncle Brandon and Aunt Jennifer? It would be useless even if he used his death as an atonement.

He became even more terrified the more he thought about it. He couldn't wait for the ambulance anymore, so he reached out his hand to Luna's neck and behind her knees, wanting to drive her to the hospital himself.

However, it was better if he didn't touch her. As soon as he moved her, she started coughing badly with her eyes closed. She opened her mouth, and blood gushed out even quicker.

"Don't touch her if you don't want to kill her!" Leigh walked over and stopped Austin.

Even if Leigh didn't tell him, he didn't dare touch Luna again either. When he saw that the blood was gushing out of Luna's mouth even faster, he was so shocked that he nearly fainted.

Since young, he had never been this scared before.

He was the eldest son in the Penham Family as well as the eldest among the five cousins in the family. He had the calmest personality and hadn't caused any trouble before, but today, he caused the biggest trouble.

"Right here, Dr. Shefford!" Simon dashed over and gave Leigh's medical kit to her.

When Leigh saw Luna's terrible condition just now, she immediately asked Simon to run to her car and get her medical kit.

Her medical kit was an heirloom that her master had left for her, so it was very precious to her. She was used to taking it everywhere she went, including today.

After she took over the medical kit, she took out a gold needle from inside and looked at Austin. "I'm going to use the gold needle to block her acupuncture point. This will buy some time for her to wait until the ambulance arrives. If I don't block it, she will die within three minutes. If I block her acupuncture point, she might have a chance of living, but she might also die. Which one do you choose?" Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g

"What are you talking about?" Austin looked at her with a pale face. "Who are you? What nonsense are you saying?"

"It's not nonsense!" Emory said. "President Penham, Dr. Shefford is the Hart Family's private doctor. Her medical skills are outstanding. It's best if you listen to her if you want to keep Miss Luna alive."

Hearing that, Austin lifted his head and looked at Emory. Since he was petrified, his mind was functioning slowly. He only recognized Emory after being stunned for a few seconds.

He knew that Emory was part of the Hart Family, so his status made him instinctively feel that his words were true.

Yet, he didn't know who Leigh was. As such, it was difficult for him to agree to let a stranger stab that long gold needle into his cousin sister's body.

What if Luna was actually fine but ended up being stabbed to death by this doctor that he didn't know and had come out of nowhere?

At this thought, he kept hesitating and didn't dare believe Leigh.

If it wasn't because someone's life was at stake, she really wanted to just turn around and leave, but this was a human's life, and Luna was still so young. On top of that, she even did something that made

Leigh happy, so she didn't want to see the child die in front of her eyes.

She then said coldly, "Her lungs have been injured before. She's coughing blood non-stop because the load fell on her, recurring her old injuries. If I don't stop her bleeding immediately, she will die of suffocation from the congested lungs before she dies of excessive bleeding."

"How do you know that her lungs were injured?" Austin asked. "Do you know Luna?"

"I don't know her. It's my first time meeting her today," Leigh replied. "I know her lungs were injured in the past because I'm a doctor!"

In other words, she could tell from what she observed. Now, she had already proven to Austin that she was not a fraud. If he still didn't believe her, it would only mean that this was Luna's fate.

Emory had a good impression of Luna, so he couldn't bear to see a young and pretty lady die at such a young age. He then said anxiously, "President Penham, Dr. Shefford is telling the truth. She's still new in Dusktown, so she doesn't know about Miss Luna!"

At this moment, Luna's cough was becoming more rapid, and her blood was gushing out even quicker. It was obvious that she was short of breath. Her pale face was turning blue, and she was opening her mouth while trying to breathe. Watching her heave her chest rapidly but still being unable to breathe showed just how much she was on the brink of death.

Which one do you choose?"

Austin was shocked by that, so he didn't dare hesitate anymore. He quickly told Leigh, "Please save Luna, Dr. Shefford."

Leigh said, "I can save her, but the timing is too late. I don't have the confidence to guarantee her survival. I'm not going to take responsibility whether she lives or dies." She didn't want to be in trouble if she couldn't save Luna in the end.

When he heard that, he grinded his teeth and nodded. "No matter if she lives or dies, I will thank you for helping out nonetheless!"

At this point, he could only grab this chance. If he grabbed the chance, Luna might survive, but if he didn't, he could only watch while his cousin died in front of him.

Leigh didn't bother him anymore and told Emory, "Evacuate the crowd. All of you, please turn around and don't look!"

With Austin and Johannes' help, Emory quickly evacuated the crowd with Fred and Simon. Meanwhile, after looking left and right, Madeline ran to the window and tore the curtain in the store. Then, she threw a corner of the curtain at Emory.

Emory and her opened the curtain and made a circle around Leigh and Luna to cover them up.

When the curtain blocked the visions of the passersby, Leigh's gold needle had been disinfected as well.

She then tore Luna's shirt apart, stabbing the gold needle into the acupuncture point around her lungs.

Once the needle was in, she twisted it a few times and stopped immediately.

Luna's coughing sound became softer, and it was at longer intervals too. Gradually, she stopped coughing altogether.

At this moment, Austin actually had his back facing Luna while helping to maintain order. But when he couldn't hear her cough anymore, he was afraid that she was dead, so he turned around painfully to take a look.

However, the curtain was pulled very high. It blocked his vision, so he couldn't see anything.

He then asked in a shaky voice, "Dr. Shefford, is Luna—"

"She's not dead yet." Leigh's voice was like music to one's ears; it was clear and sweet, just like a first- class instrument. However, her tone was arrogant and gave off the impatient feeling that she was too lazy to communicate with common people.

Had this been any other time, Austin would hate women like Leigh who used this kind of tone to talk to him. At this moment, he felt that her voice was just like an angel's voice!

If she could save his little cousin, he didn't mind her attitude at all!
