4. Oil Change
“FUU…”
Alex screamed in surprise, not expecting someone to talk to him. He led go of the doorknob and made a small jump backwards. It took Alex a couple of seconds to gather himself and respond to the person that had just talked to him.
“I, yes, I would like to come inside!”
Alex responded, he stayed in front of the door for a couple of seconds waiting for an answer.
“Well, come in. What are you waiting for”
‘O yea is store! Man, I’m tired’.
Making his way inside the store, cautiously, he notices that the store is completely normal, no bodies on the floor, no signs of fighting, no nothing. After looking around the store for a little bit he spots the person he spoke to. An older woman stood behind the counter looking at hem suspiciously. She had white skin, brown hair, and her eyes were white with a brown pupil. Noticing this Alex can’t help but to sign in relief.
“If you’re trying to rob this place you better think again”.
Say the woman while puling out a gun and place it on top of the counter.
Alex can’t help but stand there surprise and confuse at what the woman is saying, only to realize that he is still holding the pickaxe. Alex quickly throws the pickaxe to the side and raises both hands.
“Sorry, that’s not what I was trying to do. It’s only for self-defense”.
“self-defense?”
The woman looks him up and down for a couple of seconds and asks.
“What attack you?”
“humm, Nothing …”
“I’m calling the police”
The woman said and pulled out her phone.
Alex almost called out to stop her, but after thinking about it for a second Alex thought that having the police close would be safer for him.
“OK’
Answer Alex.
The woman gives him a weird look but keep her phone at her ear. After a couple of seconds Alex started to fear that nobody would answer. A couple more seconds later his fears were confirmed.
“That’s weir nobody is answering”
Alex didn’t Know what to do, seeing the woman siting there behind the counter and the store completely undisturbed like it had been a normal day, had give him hope that thing wasn’t so bad after all.
“Um excuse me ma’am. Did you notice anything estrange today”
“Besides you?”
“…. Yes, besides me”
“Only that’s been a really slow day”
“Um ok, did you fell asleep around 8 AM. Today?”
At Alex’s question the woman gives him a look of surprise and then a look of suspicion.
“Yes, that happened how do you know?”
“And you didn’t find that estrange?”
“I had a late night and an early morning, I was tired, so how do you know that I fell asleep were you spin on me?”
“What have you been doing the whole day?”
“I have been reading my book! Now answer my question!”
This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
Alex looked at her in disbelief for a few seconds.
“Because I fell asleep around that time too. Everyone in the road fell asleep, there are accidents across the highway.”
Now was the women’s turn to look at Alex in disbelieve
“You are lying”
The woman says. Alex shakes his head and answers.
“I think the reason that nobody is answering you is because it might have happened all across the state and there are so many accidents that the police can’t take any more or worst it happens all across the country.”
Alex’s words shake the woman little bit, making her scare.
“But, But I should have heard or seen more people that woke up, and my children should have call me if something like that happen”
At the mention of her children Alex can’t help grimace thinking of his family.
“Some of the people that wake up are different, aggressive, violent, I saw some of them attacking other people. I got hurt running away from them”
The woman looked at Alex with both fear and disbelief in equal measures. After looking at Alex for a few moments trying to see if he was joking or lying, she picked up her phone and started to call again. Alex guessed that she was trying to contact her children or other family members.
“Pickup pickup pickuppickuppickup”
She murmured to herself. She would wait for a couple seconds to hang up and try again sometime different numbers growing more frantically with every call that doesn’t connect.
“I, I, I must take a look myself”.
The woman said as she made her way towards the door, with her gun. Alex, thinking that is a bad idea, tries to stop her.
“Ma’am I don’t think that’s a go- “.
“Get out of my way!!”
The Woman screams at him. Alex thinking that getting in the way of a angry and armed woman is a worst idea moves out of her way, but not wanting to let the woman walk outside alone he fallows her.
Before leaving Alex remembers to pick up his pickaxe. When he is about to retrieve it, the woman that was stepping through the door suddenly falls back or more precisely she is pushed by a man.
The woman screams but quickly grows silence. It appears that de man is eating her neck.
Alex watches in horror, he’s so stunned by the quick attack that he doesn’t move for a couple of seconds. It took the man those couple of seconds to notice Alex, without any warning the man leaps at him.
Alex barely had enough time to get out of the way, unfortunately he didn’t make it unscratched. It’s one claw managed to scratch him on the left side of his chest. The man having leap so hard was unable to stop himself and crashed on the aisle divider.
Alex thinking that was his chance, quickly got closer to try to hit him whit his pickaxe, but the man reacted faster than Alex expected by running towards him. Alex swings at the man with everything that he has, unfortunately he missed, hitting the man with the wooden part of the pickaxe. This barely faces the man whom charges forward biting Alex’s arm. Alex managed to get his arm out of the man’s mouth just before the man bites all the way into his flesh, using the momentum of the man Alex rotates his body and shoves the man to the side. the man stumbles forward and having difficulty staying up, all his previous speed apparently gone.
‘The hit on the head must have actually caused some damage’.
Not wasting the chance Alex gets closer one more time to finish the man off. The man turns around just on time to reactive a blow to the side of the head. The metal part of the pickaxe comes out all the way out from the other side of his skull.
Alex breaths heavily as he stares down at the man.
“uuug couh cough”
Feeling nauseous Alex looks away from the body and looks that the door that its still open, not taking any chances of another attack he tries to close the door, but the body of the woman is blocking it. Alex reaches for the body but hesitates.
‘What if she turns? Wait didn’t he bite me’
Ones he realizes that he starts to feel pain all over his body as if millions of ants were biting him. Looking at his arm he notices that the man had taken a good chunk of skin and amidst the blood there were little black spots. Terrify Alex tries to squish as many of those spots out of his arm, not daring to use his moth in case he swallows it by accident.
While he is trying to take the black spots out of his arm, he stars to feel something in his chest, looking down he realize that the scratch that the man gives him managed to cut his shirt. Taking his shirt off to get a better look. Alex realized that it wasn’t just a scratch but a cut deep enough that it made him bleed. He also notices the same black spots that he has in his arm bleeding.
“AAAAAAAAAAA FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!!!!”
Out of desperation Alex starts to claw at himself trying to make himself bleed out the black spots but unfortunately. Alex almost falls into despair when he feels as if dozens of tiny worms are trying to make their way to the center of his chest.
“NONONONONONONO PLEAS PLEAS PLEAS NO LIKE THIS, NOT LIKE THIS!!!!!!”
“GOD PLEAS, NO PLEAS NOOO!!!!!!!!”
Alex cries and begs as he claws himself open, but the little worms keep making their way towards the center of his chest. Alex stops clawing himself and starts to tense his body trying to stop them whit his muscles. Out of options Alex tries to will his body into sweating the little worms out. Alex breaths in from his nose and out from his mouth forcefully. He also tries to cry, spit, puck, piss, and shit the worms out of himself. For minutes Alex tries his hardest, but nothing seems to work.
Then a miracle occurs, the worms stop. This re-candles Alex’s hope, making him re-double his efforts. After minutes that felt like hour something changes, his body become completely rigid for a few seconds, then a feeling, as if he popped every join of his body at the same time, washes over him.
“haaaaaa cough cough bleeeaaah cough cough”
Alex’s puck something that looks like an old used car oil, he also notices that he is sweating that same black substance. Inspecting his body Alex discovers that he can’t feel the little worms anymore. Absolutely exhausted, Alex falls back on the floor and stars to cry in relief.
