Far below the frozen world of the ice harvesters, there existed the kingdom of Arendelle. The royal castle faced the sea in the north—the kingdom itself was seated on the banks of a fjord. The town of Arendelle was often bustling with people and full of commotion. On the opposite bank, tiny houses faced the harbor.

Today seemed to be a special day. Royal banners decorated the bridge that connected the town to the castle. King Agnarr and Queen Iduna ruled Arendelle; they had one beautiful little daughter with white-blonde hair and big, blue eyes called Elsa. But today, all that was going to change.

King Agnarr and Elsa sat on a bench in the hallway. Both of them looked troubled. Suddenly, they heard the sound of a newborn crying. Elsa’s eyes enlarged as she grew curious and entered a room. Inside the room sat her mother, Queen Iduna. In her arms was a baby with ginger hair. Elsa smiled and touched the baby’s hand. The baby indeed caught her hand but continued to cry. The following night, as Elsa roamed about the castle, she happened to pass by the room where her baby sister was sleeping. As Elsa strolled by the room, her sister began to cry. Elsa entered and moved toward the cradle. When Elsa looked at the baby, she stopped wailing and began to stare at her with those big, blue eyes.

Then Elsa moved her hand over her sister, and flakes of snow appeared out of nowhere. Elsa’s little sister began to giggle as tiny snowflakes descended upon her. Elsa began to explain to the baby who she was and what was expected of her. The baby, naturally, did not understand much and just clapped and laughed with glee.

A few years passed, and the baby became a toddler and was named Anna. She very often tied her ginger hair in two plats. Elsa was now three years older, and her magical ice powers had grown just enough for her to make some mischief. No one in the castle, save her mother, father, and little sister, knew anything about her mysterious power. The two sisters got along very well and ran and played around the halls all day. Once, Anna asked Elsa,

“Hey, how come you can do that, and I can’t?”

Elsa replied to her curious sister, “I don’t know; I wish you could, though.”

Besides playing, Elsa spent a lot of time telling Anna how she should conduct herself as a princess. Anna listened intently, only for a while though, and was never successful in following those rules.

Little Elsa was no less—once while taking tuition classes, she froze her teacher’s tea! The baffled tuition teacher only stared at the hemispherical brown piece of ice in disbelief. Later, when the two sisters were outside the castle lying down under a tree, they pledged that when Elsa was queen, Anna would be her right hand. They wished to travel around the world.

An overjoyed Anna added, “I’ll tell them about my sister and the magic things she can do!”

Both of them also promised to take care of their people, and they believed their people would love them back.
