Chapter 2- The enemy of my enemy is probably my friend.
It was a beatiful day, with a clear blue sky, birds singing in the horizon, or maybe shouting cries of challenge towards the skies. As if trying to convince themselves that their singing was more pleasant than the view of a clear sky without clouds, raw and startling.
It was one of those days that would be recorded permanently in your memory. At least, that was the case for Tzura.
Tzura was your average and simple girl, but today she emanated a strange aura around her. Maybe it was the aura of someone who was about to start a long, long journey. After a lot of efforts, she managed to pass the theorical exams for the Royal Academy of Daudis, in a week she will be taking the practical exams, in the Royal Capital of the Kingdom of Sayence, Daudis.
It would also be her first time in a named city, which was not that strange. After all, only four cities had name in the whole world. Those were the four capital cities of the four major countries of the Continent. Sindaia was the Imperial Capital of the Azrur Empire, Thartos was the Main Metropolis of the Hegemonic States, Syoria was the Imperial Capital of the Feryant Empire and Daudis was the Royal Capital of the Kingdom of Sayence.
All the other cities were named with numbers starting with #2. The first ten cities of each of the major countries, including the named Capital City were known as Big Cities, those were the cities with more population, power, technology, money, corruption and also the only cities who had academies.
The academies were the pillar of the countries and also the pillar of humanity. They produced probably the 95% of the future combatants that would protect their countries interests. Also they were the last stronghold of humanity.
The four major countries occuped a vast lenght of land, and together they created a rhomboid, a huge amount of land with the shape of a rhomboid. Around the rhomboid there was a even greater amount of land, ten times greater, maybe a hundred times greater. But no one knows for sure. Since that was the territory of terrifying magical beasts. That was the reason that all the Big Cities were located on the frontier instead of the center of the country. They had to defend the humanity from the threat of the magical beasts and also those magical beasts were the main source of income to the countries, the hide of some beasts or their fur and claws had special properties and depending on the quality of the raw materials. Some people would offer great amounts of money for them.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
Also this was also the reason that humanity, the four major countries didnt engage in internal warfare for more than five centuries. They couldn`t afford to waste echonomical and human resources in a useless slaughter.
This proved clearly that the bonds between humanity were not formed by trust, friendship or other flamboyant adjectives. Not even your country is able to escape from the conflicts, in fact if it were not for the magical beasts threat, the leader of each of the countries would have started the plan for war since long ago. Since, without the beasts` raw materials, one of the main sources of income would be the war. It was an easy way to kill population when it was growing too much, sell weapons and even further the advances in technology.
In the long run, every man and woman should be able to realize that the human nature is wicked, we are greedy creatures. The leaders can kill hundreds of thousands of their citizens for greed and whitout shedding a single tear nor regretting it. The only thing capable of preventing all this, preventing our own destruction by our own hands, our abyss. Was a even greater abyss, despair, fear.
Fear was what united the humanity, that`s the reason that despite the fact that the Four Major Countries got some diferent views about certain matters, they were still able to shake hands and work together. We are creatures that can only find peace in destruction. Stop fighting between ourselves, when there is a even greater threat outside. Ultimately, the enemy of my enemy is probably my friend.
