A Shard falls from the Heavens
Arc 1 : the Beginning

Arc 1 : the Beginning

5 months later~

Valerie turned as she crossed the hallways to the nursery where four burly and powerful-looking cultivators stood guard. She paused for a second, collecting her thoughts before she enacted her plan. She resumed walking until she reached the nursery and the guards.

They stared at her as if they expecting her to say something. She nervously told them that an elder had told her to come here to check on the babies and that she was relatively new to the job. They nodded, satisfied by her timid response and they opened the door, motioning her in.

She scanned the nursery and saw about 2 dozen human babies all in cribs with another door at the end with another squad of cultivators that looked and felt even more menacing than the ones guarding the entrance to the nursery.

She picked up one of the wailing babies in the cribs and started rocking it slowly until it gradually stopped wailing and fell asleep. She gently set it down on its crib and she moved from each crib, checking on the condition of each baby and picking up the wailing one's and soothing them.

She repeated this process until she reached the door at the end of the nursery. She once again told the cultivators her story while staring at the ground, but when there was no response, she looked up to see them looking at her suspiciously. She then took out a piece of parchment paper that had the elder's energy signature on it that she had stolen from the actual maid's corpse after slitting her throat.

After what felt like an eternity, they moved over to the sides and motioned her to open the door. She hesitated for a few moments, but after seeing that they were still doubting her, she hardened her will and opened the door.

As soon as the door was slightly opened, she felt it, debuffs of all kinds started crushing her, she started feeling a strong sense of fear, subservience to the babies in front of her, intense heat being radiated, and most of her cultivation getting sucked out of her, but she resolved herself as this was probably the only chance that she was going to get and slowly but surely, opened the door.

When she fully opened the door, she saw them, babies that were all staring at her in hopes that she would leave the room, or that's what she thought as she closed the door behind her and slowly took out her spatial ring, and opened it. She then took out the artifact that she had found just minutes after her father and mother had died.

"FROM THEM" she screamed to herself. She immediately turned around trying to hear if the guards had heard her and were attempting to open the door. After a few moments of silence, she let out the breath that she had held in. And realized that if the guards couldn't hear that even with their high cultivation, this room must be an artifact. she sighed because she would have to commit murder in this MAGNIFICENT room.

The babies started glaring at her startled by the loud noise. She stood there for a minute staring at the complexity of the runes on the dagger that she held with her hands. Dagger of Retribution

, it was perfect for what she required of it. A curved serrated dagger capable of slowly torturing a victim of its blade until it bled to death or allowing a quick merciful death. But that she would not allow, she would get her revenge on all of those who took part in killing her parents by giving them all slow and painful deaths.

"I Will KILL THEM ALL" she had promised to herself that fateful day where everything she loved was torn apart and destroyed, while the perpetrators laughed off the fact that they had killed a whole village worth of people.

After reminiscing the promise that she had made that day, she walked up sluggishly to the baby in the middle and told herself that she would start out small by destroying the sect's future and slowly build her way up. She began raising the dagger sideways and swiped it. She missed. And the baby in front of her evaporated. "It was an illusion," she told herself trying to calm herself as she tried to pinpoint the actual baby's location.

She found him. And tried to raise the dagger and swing it but then, she felt it. Fear and dread unlike anything she had ever felt before filled her mind and caused her to be petrified and stand there.

Suddenly, a blade formed out of the wind pierced her bode almost slicing her in half. She stared at it in disbelief, hearing shouts of anger from behind her, before crumpling to the ground and dying. The last thing she felt before her soul exited her body was a foot-stomping on her head.
