It was a beautiful Saturday morning Josie woke up to. The rays of light that shone through the curtain lit up her room making it look beautiful. Waking up to a soft and chill song made it even better. You could say she was a morning person.
Going down the stairs she saw Hope in the living room painting like she usually does in her free time. Hearing the descending footsteps Hope greeted Josie. "Morning."
"Morning" She greeted back, "Did you eat yet?"
"Yeah, and I left some food for you in the kitchen."
"Why thank you wifey." She said jokingly.
When she walked to the kitchen counter, on a plate were two pieces of avocado toasts.
"So..." She took a bite of the toast "What are your plans for today?"
"Oh you know," Hope paused while carefully putting brush strokes on the canvas. "Be me and just stay inside like the anti-social artist I am."
"Don't feel like going outside?"
"Nope." She said popping the p. "How about you, any plans?"
"Since it's a beautiful morning I actually might go around the town and buy some things," Josie said taking a look around their apartment. It barely had any decorations or anything in it apart from the basic necessities. "That can liven the place up."
Hope put her paintbrushes down and started to clean up. "Well good luck with that because I'm going to stay here and binge some shows."
"Productive"
"Very" Hope retorted.
--------
Josie was currently walking around the town's centre. All kinds of people were there doing different things. There were families, friends, couples that were at the park. She didn't really explore the town that much and just bought a couple of things that she thought would be fit for their apartment.
Deciding that she had all she needed, she started to walk back home.
As Josie was waiting for the street cross light to turn green, she saw on the corner of the street she was in was a small flower shop. It was a neat flower shop that had a couple of displays around it.
When Josie decided to look at the different flowers that surrounded the store, she saw through the small blue window was a raven-haired girl.
The so-called Dark Lord herself with the most amiable smile directed at an older lady.
No way that's the same person.
The girl's cheery disposition clearly contrasted her usual standoffish one. Her smile, different from the arrogant smirk that wound Josie up. Truth is she saw the other girl a couple of times throughout the week. But they weren't really able to talk since the queen A was always surrounded by her posse. And if Josie was going, to be honest, there wasn't any need for them to have any interaction anyways.
Her thoughts were disturbed when the street cross light sounded, signalling that it was now safe to cross the street. Being curious to this whole other side of Penelope, she thought that maybe just maybe this girl was in a good mood today. Plus when you see someone you know in public, it's a given that you say hi to that person.
Or at least that's the excuse she told herself before she walked into the store.
"I think I have the perfect thing for you in the back," The old lady at the counter spoke, "Wait a second here Penny."
"Sure Mrs. Addy."
"Penny?" Josie bit her tongue and stifled a laugh.
This is way too good.
Penelope's eyes widened at the voice behind her. She turned around to see the brunette giggling.

"Josie," She laughed nervously "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same question. A flower shop...." Josie realized that Penelope must have hated the idea of anyone seeing her be so...cordial. "Buying something cute for yourself or," She wiggled her eyebrows teasingly, "Maybe a gift for someone special?"
"No of course not. Why would you even say that?"
The owner of the shop came back to where the two were talking.
"Here you go Penny," The old lady handed her a red rose bouquet. It was simple but it had its own charm that made it different from the rest of the flowers in the shop.
"Ah, so it is a gift." Josie said. She may not know that much about flowers but she does know that a rose, a red rose, is what you give to people you like.
A red rose a common symbol for love.
"You must be very whipped." Josie added.
"Is this the girl you plan on giving it to?" The shop owner looked at Josie up and down. "Oh is this the girl you've been talking about?" The lady cooed. "And as I recall you even threw the word dating or was it a date? Or was it planning to date? Ah you know how old ladies are."
The teasing look on Josie's face was quickly replaced by a shy one and a blush suddenly crept up on her face.
"What?! No!" Penelope shouted. It seems like Josie wasn't the only girl in the room that was flustered. "I mean no." She repeated politely. "When have I ever talked about anyone?"
"I just assumed that this was the girl that you were giving the flowers to, you said she was a beautiful girl." She said with a curious and playful look.
Josie blushed even more.
"Ha! Nope."
"That was rude." Josie suddenly blurted out.
Penelope stared at her with disbelief.
"Yes Penny, where are your manners? You haven't even introduced this lovely young lady."
"Wha-"
"I'm Mrs. Addy by the way." The shop owner interrupted.
"I'm Josie, Penny's reluctant friend." She said, emphasising on the nickname to clearly irritate the other girl who was now shooting daggers at her. "Nice to meet you." She spoke with courtesy. Being a headmaster's daughter has its perks.
Penelope finally getting sick of the power that Josie currently held over her, returned to her usual look. She had finally thought of something to say that would get under Josie's skin. The sweet smile that Josie saw through the window earlier, turned into a devious one.
"You're right." She said confidently "It is a gift for someone."
"Oh?" Josie smiled. Teasing a person she barely knows wasn't a common occurrence for Josie. As she got older, she got more confidence in doing things she never thought of doing. But aside from that, there was just a pull to the other girl that Josie couldn't resist. Apparently, Penelope couldn't to.
Penelope smiled back. She walked towards her, leaned in closer, and whispered two words that left Josie horrified.
"Your sister."
Seeing Josie's reaction Penelope was content. She turned around to politely say goodbye to Mrs. Addy before walking out of the store leaving Josie speechless.
-------
"Are you kidding me?!" Josie shouted. She had stayed in the shop looking like an idiot before Mrs. Addy could snap her out of it. When she finally did she immediately went out of the store and jogged towards the other girl that was walking full of satisfaction with each step.
"Hmm? What was that?" She continued to walk and not pay attention to the taller girl.
No Josie wasn't going to have it. "You can't just drop a bombshell like that and just leave!"
Penelope stopped for a second and turned around. "Watch me."
"You are so annoying."
"I'm annoying?" She sneered.
Finally catching up, Josie grabbed Penelope's other hand that wasn't holding the flowers and spun her around. The two of them were now at a full stop and Penelope spoke.
"Oh come on Jojo."
"Where are you going anyways?"
"To give it to Lizzie obviously."
"Oh my god." She let go of Penelope's arm and put her own hand on the side of her head. The expression on Josie's face looked very similar to a kid whose ice cream fell on the sidewalk.
Josie was thinking about how her sister once again failed to mention crucial information even though the two of them met up every day for the whole week at the diner to eat. Maybe it wasn't really her business, but remembering how they were back then, surely things couldn't have changed that much between them.
And for a split second, there was a hint of regret on Penelope's eyes.
She sighed, "I was kidding." She couldn't believe she actually had to stop a stupid prank because of this girl.
"What?"
"I'm not dating your sister." Penelope rolled her eyes.
"Really?" Josie paused "Then what was that for?!"
"You were being..." She shrugged "Annoying." Penelope returned the word that Josie had said earlier.
"I was being annoying?" Josie mocked and returned what the raven girl had said as well. Great now I'm being immature. What is happening to me? She thought.
Penelope deadpanned, "Yes."
After answering Josie's question, she turned around to face the direction she was going and continued to go to her destination. Josie walked by her side.
"But what about what Mrs. Addy said? About what you said?"
Penelope rolled her eyes again, "If I remember correctly what I said was that I was doing a friend a favour by giving something to this 'beautiful', said that with gagging noises, girl he's dating."
"But-"
The shorter girl interrupted "Mrs. Addy loves to create chaos. She's not that old to not remember what I said and I swear she was just trying to mess with me."
There was silence as Josie was still processing the whole back and forth revelation that was happening.
"I'm not dating her." Penelope broke the silence between them. "MG is." She said ever so casually just to add more fuel to the fire.
Josie's eyes widened.
Ooh I am so not going to be friends with this girl.
