Prologue

In the year 2150, a company known as Genetic Technologies, or Genetech to the common man, cracked the code to combine human and animal DNA. Genetech went on to get government contracts in the United States of America, which despite a rocky period in the early 2020's somehow managed to not only come out of their issues intact, but thrive and return to their position as a global superpower, during the year 2155, for the first ever super soldier project combining man and beast. The first of these super soldiers was a man named Alex Jameson, and he was a sniper enhanced with the eyes of an eagle. This made him an even better sniper than he was before, allowing him to make several kills on high profile targets throughout the world, albeit most didn't realize just who Jameson was because the U.S kept him a secret. It would only come out ten years later, after he retired from the armed forces, when a reporter interested in his record, and with some zoological knowledge, realized that his eyes were more avian than human. This reporter, a woman named Lydia Ross, would then go on to coerce Jameson to tell his story.

This was a big event on the political stage, because up until this point, the most anyone knew about Genetech's research was that they'd given feral animals human intelligence, and had claimed that actual human testing was still a good decade away. After Ross made her findings public, the U.S government admitted that they'd been asking Genetech to enhance their soldiers for over a dozen years, and that many modern soldiers were given minor genetic boosters that Genetech created, in order to help them deal with PTSD, follow orders better, and work more efficiently in groups. These boosters were reportedly just used to increase the natural instincts of soldiers, other than troopers, sailors, and marines who requested advanced augmentations. Those who requested advanced augmentations, were given enhanced senses by a more advanced serum that more actively changed the user's DNA, and would require them to be out of commission for anywhere from five to ten weeks. What no one realized was that these advanced augmentations were nowhere near the level of Jameson's augmentation.

Augmentation's like Jameson's, even with immunnobuoosters and a dedicated team on standby would take anywhere from one to five years, and anything more extensive than sensory organ enhancements, such as internal changes to important organs could put a soldier out of commission anywhere from 7 to 10 years, and have them working on desk work. However, in exchange for those years of downtime, the longevity of the soldier's life was expanded, as was their terms of service. Of course, these soldiers would have their family's notified of some kind of medical issue while on tour, or during training, and if they should die during the procedure it would be considered “complications with the surgery,” meanwhile if they survived, it would be a miraculous recovery. Five years after Jameson's story was released by Miss Ross, Genetech released their first “product” to the public, claiming they had turned a new leaf, and ending their government contracts.

They also handed over the “researchers responsible for such bastardization of their humanitarian goals” to the police for processing, as well as a few of the “supervisors” who were supposed to stop such things. After that, the reveal of their first “product,” a group of talking domestic animals that were willing to become the public's pets were a big hit. The company also did an outreach program to help veterans by giving them the same immunoboosters the military supposedly had denied them, and organ transplants, as well as offering them jobs at some of their lower level facilities as guards and security personnel, claiming that it was to give back to those their research had hurt. They also created a dedicated branch of the company to help deal with the genetics causing addictive personalities, a department to help with rehabilitation, and a department to help take care of children and orphans both at home and abroad.

All of this raised their stock in the eyes of the world, and earned them multinational accolades. This also led to many countries opening their borders to Genetech to create facilities within their borders. Over the next ten years Genetech became the name on everyone's tongue, and there ties to the shady government programs were all but forgotten. Things however did not look so good for the United States Government, however, as multiple reports of things that they had thought hidden, suddenly appeared upon the internet, including a few of Jameson's black ops operations that killed humanitarians who were trying to make the world a better place, and trying to broker piece in certain third world countries. This led to the United States standing in the political world greatly drop, even as Genetech's stocks greatly rose. At the same time, imitators of Genetech started appearing all around the world. These imitators were not as successful as Genetech, however they did manage to make certain governments take an interest in their research.

Even as all of this was going on, the world kept on turning and Genetech kept on producing products that wowed the people. These products included, but were not limited to, genetic mods, which allowed humans to develop minor animal traits, stronger immunoboosters, and cures to certain terminal illnesses. However, in the year 2175 Genetech came out with something that would change the stock of the world greatly, they called them hybrid servants. These hybrid servants were a complete genetic melding of human, and beast. With their creation, came a change to the laws of the world order. These hybrid servants were now basically slaves sold by Genetech, and due to Genetech spinning things in such a way that the populace was all for it, legislation was passed that labeled non humans, as hybrids were considered, lesser beings. This was pushed by Genetech's propaganda saying that Genetic Hybrids were created with an inbuilt NEED to serve their betters. Thanks to Genetech's creative spinning, slavery was once again instated world wide with their being multiple classes of slaves.

During all this, the intelligent animals that Genetech had first released demanded to be seen as more than pets, now that there were hybrids that looked more like them. Thus creating yet another classification, due to these creatures proving they were just as sapient as humans and thus wished to have equal rights to some degree. With the new laws in place, “pure” humans or those without any physical augmentations were now at the top of the world, just below them were those with minor cosmetic changes from animal DNA, below them were those with clear animal traits, below them were anthropomorphics, as the world came to call Genetic Servants, and finally at the bottom of the totem pole were animals with human intelligence. The governments of the world, agreeing with Genetech's classification system, passed laws limiting the rights depending on a “person's” humanity globally in 2175.

Ironically, 25 years later, the lower classes rose up in revolt, causing Genetech, and the world at large, to realize that the original inbuilt need to serve that the first two generations of anthropomorphics had was not a trait passed on through reproduction. Genetech had not realized this “slight” oversight until it was too late. The revolt turned into a war between humans and non-humans, with Genetech being requested to give humans more augments to deal with these “lesser beings,” leading to a grueling war that lasted 50 years. Finally in the year 2250, The war ended and humans, anthros, Feralis, or ferals with human intelligence and DNA, and humans with augments came to the negotiation table. Genetech sat in for the human governments, alongside the leaders of each of the other groups. The meeting lasted a period of just under seven months. The war hand ended in Christmas of 2250, and the treaty was finished on June 21st of 2251 at Dawn of the longest day of the year.

The summit's attendees walked away with the following conditions: 1. Every sapient being on the planet was to be treated equally. 2. Genetech, as the ones who had the greatest stock in the war, and with all races, would be allowed to continue their practices as a company. 3. The governments of the world would never again enact a law making one group lesser to another. 4. The more extreme weapons used in the war would be destroyed, or locked away, in order to protect the populace of the world. Finally 5. The world at large would acknowledge that humans were at fault for starting the mistreatment of other sapient beings, but the other races were also at fault for starting the war rather than trying a diplomatic route and as such the humans would be forced to release any of the older generation of Anthropomorphics and Feralis, unless they kept them on at equal pay to human servants. In exchange, the Anthropomorphic and Feralis races would cease all hostilities.

Everyone agreed to these terms, and the treaty was signed. However, what no one knew was that Genetech had orchestrated this entire thing to gain even more power, as they were now looked upon favorably by all races, despite it being their practices that led to the war in the first place. Forty Nine years after the summit, the world is at peace and Genetech is still doing their experiments. However, over the last forty or so years they have expanded into other industries, including energy companies. Their subsidiary company Scientific Technologies has recently discovered a strange new energy that not only can be used to power the world, but also can energize the cells of individuals as well. They have started experimenting with this energy, both publicly as a power source, and in secret on test subjects hidden throughout the world.

It's exactly 50 years after the summit that my story begins. My name is Jake Alexander Wolf, son of Genetech Researchers Christopher Alexis Wolf, and Maya Katherine Wolf. I'm preparing for my freshman year of high school, and my family just told me we're moving to a new town due to my parent's working on this new energy for Genetech. It's also the first time I'm finally able to attend public school, because supposedly my DNA is no longer as mutable as it was when I was a child. Something about entering puberty stabilizing the changes they made to protect me from some disease when I was a baby. I don't know what they mean by that, but all I can say is, the last two hundred years have been majorly fucked up due to all the wars and shit. The fact my parents work for a company that may or may not be behind it all, kinda is fucked up, but I can't convince them to see it my way. Although, that may just be because Dad and Mom argue with my grandparents who have a similar opinion to me. Anyway, Enough about the past, we're moving to the new town tomorrow, so I need to get a good night's sleep, and I don't doubt my siblings will be in to bug me at Dawn as usual. That said, if you're reading this, I'm going to have to ask how you got my journal, but whatever I guess.
