The Academy Archives
A MILLENNIUM OF TEARING EDUCATION
INTRODUCTION TO THE ARCHIVES
These records comprise the official history of the Academy, documenting its founding, evolution, and the numerous events that have shaped Tearing education over the past millennium. From humble beginnings amidst the tumultuous times of the early ninth century to the present day, the Academy has stood as a beacon of knowledge, power, and responsibility in the magick world.
The history of the Academy is not merely a chronicle of an institution but a reflection of the magickal world's journey through epochs of enlightenment, conflict, and transformation. It has been a sanctuary for those gifted with the rare ability to harness sphaeram—the very essence of magick—and a crucible where raw talent is forged into mastery.
While many records were lost during the Great Purge of 1876—an event that sought to erase much of our heritage—this compilation represents our most complete understanding of the institution's history. The Great Purge was orchestrated by factions that feared the unchecked growth of magickal knowledge. Libraries were burned, artifacts destroyed, and scholars silenced. Yet, through the courage and foresight of dedicated archivists, much was preserved in hidden vaults and encrypted texts.
The Archives serve not only as a repository of facts and dates but also as a chronicle of the ideals, struggles, and triumphs that have defined the Academy. They tell the stories of visionary leaders, groundbreaking Tearings, and the countless students who have passed through its halls, each contributing to the our shared legacy. Their discoveries, challenges, and legacies are the what make us what we are today.
This collection invites you to journey through time, exploring the pivotal moments that have shaped our world and understanding the profound impact of Tearing education on the magickal and mundane realms alike. From the earliest days of the First Council to the modern era of technological integration, the Academy's influence has extended beyond its walls, touching lives and altering the course of history.
Please be advised of the confidentiality of this. Knowledge is to be confined to Tearings only. Any information leaked to a Slug is a penalty to be discussed by the relating overseeing council for the leaked information. Advised to share is altogether not allowed, though leaks are expected, there is a ZERO tolerance policy for any recollection of someone’s time at the Academy among alumni or of the Academy’s workings, whether it be discussion about classes or the houses, or even about a colleague. The Tearing world has been kept secret since the dawn of our age, since caveman wielding elemental affinities being erased from history to a great many other facets of knowledge since eradicated in the face of enlightenment of the ignorant. Aristocratic families are not exempt from this—knowledge about the Academy is strictly forbidden, and any Tearing lineage should teach basic sphaeram fundamentals but absolutely no Academy history.
The need for secrecy about the Academy and the dire repercussions of sharing any details with outsiders is paramount. In a world where information equates to power, the mysteries contained within this institution could be disastrous if discovered by the wrong people. Tearings grasp this solemn duty from childhood, with even the most prominent magickal families staying silent about the Academy's inner functions.
It's a weighty obligation, recognizing that one careless remark could unwind centuries of meticulously protected enigmas. Former students shoulder this responsibility well past graduation, the vow of confidentiality permanently ingrained in their essence. Interactions with Slugs - those pitiful individuals born lacking even a glimmer of magickal talent —are rife with unease, each word carefully chosen lest an unintended remark sparks unwelcome interest.
The magickal world's history is peppered with near misses and close calls, moments when the curtain of secrecy was almost torn asunder. The Great Purge looms as a grim reminder of the extremes some will pursue to keep Tearings hidden, libraries incinerated and academics muted in a frantic attempt to preserve the existing order. It's a sobering realization, knowing how easily the fires of fear and ignorance can devour the illumination of understanding.
Yet, despite the heft of this duty, there's an undeniable excitement in belonging to something so much grander than oneself. To tread the same corridors as the illustrious masters of old, to unravel the riddles of sphaeram and expand the frontiers of the possible—it's an honor and a privilege bestowed upon a select few. In the shadows of the Academy's hallowed halls, the next generation of Tearings toils tirelessly, honing their skills and sharpening their minds, ready to take up the mantle and guard the secrets for centuries to come.
And so, as you peruse these archives, remember the sacred duty you now bear. Safeguard these truths with your very existence, for the destiny of the magickal realm rests squarely upon your shoulders. The road ahead may be laden with trials and temptations, but remain steadfast to your vow, and you will assume your rightful place among the venerated ranks of the Academy's sentinels. The future of our world depends on it.
PART I: THE FOUNDING ERA (800-1000)
THE FIRST COUNCIL
The Academy's creation came from necessity rather than choice. In 827, following the devastating Cascade Wars that nearly exposed the magick world to mundane society, seven of the most powerful Tearings of their age gathered to establish a system of control and education. The Cascade Wars were a series of conflicts ignited by rival factions vying for dominance over sphaeram-rich territories. The unchecked use of destructive magicks led to cataclysmic events that threatened to unravel the rift between the magickal and mundane worlds.
Recognizing the existential threat posed by such chaos, the Tearings convened in a secret conclave. Their goal was to prevent further devastation by unifying the disparate magickal communities under a shared philosophy and structured education system. This gathering, known as the First Council, marked a turning point in magickal history, setting the foundation for the Academy and the preservation of magickal secrecy.
The council members brought together diverse perspectives and expertise, each contributing uniquely to the foundation of the Academy. Their combined wisdom and foresight laid the groundwork for an institution that would endure for centuries, adapting to the changing needs of the magick community while steadfastly upholding the principles upon which it was founded.

She developed multilayered wards that shielded the institution from detection and attack, incorporating innovative techniques that remain in use today. Her "Dawn Wards" are studied extensively for their effectiveness.
* • Konstantin Drake (Nightwalker) – Security Chief. Renowned for his vigilance and tactical prowess, Konstantin established the security protocols and enforcement mechanisms that kept the Academy secure. His legacy includes the development of the Shadow Sentinels, a network of guardians that monitor the Academy's boundaries, blending magick with stealth, particularly surveillance.
* • Maya Winterrose (Interloper) – Curriculum Developer. A scholar and educator at heart, Maya crafted the initial curricula, blending practical and theoretical magick. She championed a holistic approach to education, ensuring that students developed morally as well as magickally. Her emphasis on ethics and responsibility became a cornerstone of the Academy's teachings.
THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD (827-840)
The Academy's physical structure took thirteen years to complete, each stone laid imbued with a collection of sunderglyphs. The construction was a monumental task that involved not only building but also the combining of complex magickal matrices into the very fabric of the edifice. Artisans and Tearings from all over the magickal world contributed their skills, making the Academy a symbol of collaboration.

The site was chosen for its unique convergence of ley lines and proximity to the Rift, a nexus of sphaeram energy. This location amplified magickal abilities and provided a rich environment for experimentation and learning. The construction process itself was a marvel of magickal engineering, utilizing elemental manipulation, transmutation, and other advanced techniques.
* The Main Hall: Designed by Thaddeus Stone using geometrically perfect proportions to enhance natural sphaeram flow. The hall's architecture was based on sacred geometries and the Golden Ratio, serving as a conduit for channeling ambient magickal energies. Its vaulted ceilings and intricate carvings were not only aesthetically pleasing but also functioned as conduits and amplifiers for various spells and enchantments. The frescoes depicted scenes from magickal lore.
* The Six Towers: Each aligned with ley lines corresponding to different sunderglyph manifestations. These towers acted as focal points for various branches of magick, including elemental manipulation, temporal studies, and arcane symbology. The alignment with ley lines amplified the effectiveness of sunderglyphs and facilitated deeper research into the nature of magick. Each tower housed specialized facilities, laboratories, and libraries dedicated to its particular discipline.
* The Underground Chambers: Training areas with specialized dampening fields. They allowed students to practice advanced sunderglyphs without risking harm to themselves or the Academy. The chambers also served as secure locations for containing volatile artifacts.
* The Library: Warded with consciousness-expanding enchantments by Elena Silki. Beyond housing an extensive collection of texts, the library served as a center for intellectual exploration. Enchantments within the space heightened perception and facilitated connections between disparate ideas, fostering innovation and discovery. The library's cataloging system was itself a work of magick, allowing users to find information intuitively.
* The Grounds: Crafted to include various sphaeram ecosystems for practical training. The grounds featured environments ranging from enchanted forests and crystalline caverns to elemental arenas where students could interact with fire, water, earth, and air in controlled settings. These spaces provided real-world contexts for students to apply their skills, encouraging adaptability and respect for the forces they commanded. Magical creatures inhabited these areas, offering further opportunities for study.
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE HOUSES (841)
The six houses were established to nurture the diverse talents of students. By grouping individuals with similar aptitudes, the Academy created micro-communities that fostered growth, collaboration, and healthy competition. The houses also served as administrative units, with dedicated staff and resources to support their students. House leaders acted as mentors and advocates, guiding their charges through the complexities of magickal educational development.
Each house developed its own traditions, symbols, and ethos. Ceremonies, rituals, and competitions became integral parts of house culture, strengthening bonds among members. The rivalry between houses spurred excellence, while inter-house collaborations promoted unity. Alumni networks from each house continue to influence the Tearing world through their unique contributions.
