Chapter 36: Will I become an ancestor ?
As I watched the collapse of my formation, I couldn't help but feel a mix of frustration and fascination. The qi in my rune had intertwined with the qi in the pyramid formation, causing it to distort wildly. The rune seemed to devour the formation's qi, but it destabilized everything in the process.
All the nodes shifted from their correct positions since the rest of the qi wasn't supporting them. In the end, the entire formation collapsed on my rune, causing it to overload due to the excessive amounts of qi.
I was a little speechless. This was a bit too flashy and unexpected, and I couldn't pinpoint the exact reason. I needed to understand this better, so I decided to experiment with different types of formations while using the same rune.
This would give me a much better idea of what was going on, as it would provide data on the different behavior patterns of this rune with various formations.
I spent the next few hours immersed in my experiments. I tried simple formations, complex ones, formations with different shapes, and those with varying numbers of nodes.
Each time, I replaced one of the nodes with my fire concept rune. I meticulously noted down the energy readings, angle changes, and the resulting behavior of each formation.
Some experiments were uneventful, with the formation simply collapsing without much drama. Others were more spectacular, with the formation's qi violently clashing with the rune's energy, resulting in small explosions or bursts of light.
Each failure brought new insights, though, and slowly, patterns began to emerge.
I noticed that the interactions between the rune and the formation's qi varied depending on the complexity of the formation. Simpler formations tended to collapse quickly and quietly, while more complex ones showed more dramatic failures.
The key seemed to lie in the balance of qi and the stability of the nodes.
After a particularly long haul of experimentation, I sat back and reviewed my notes. The data was extensive, but a few key observations stood out.
The rune's energy was indeed causing disruptions in the formations, but it wasn't entirely random. There was a subtle interplay between the rune's qi and the formation's qi, almost as if they were trying to synchronize but failing due to the imbalance.
I realized that to succeed, I needed to find a way to harmonize the rune's energy with the formation's qi. It wasn't enough to simply replace a node with the rune; I needed to ensure that the energy flows were compatible and stable.
This required a deeper understanding of both the rune and the formation.
With renewed determination, I dove back into my experiments. I adjusted the energy levels of my rune, trying to match it more closely with the formation's qi.
I also experimented with different placements for the rune, not just at the centroid but at various vertices. Each attempt brought me closer to understanding the intricate balance required.
Just a single inspiration has brought me this close to making something completely novel although I doubt I would ever be able to make it a reality let alone use it in battle.
For that I probably need another great idea to make somehow make it as fast as possible.
Wait... I should also incorporate my fire concept in formation I am trying to merge, I forgot such a simple thing .
This should enhance the harmony and along with right shapes and number of nodes I can at least manifest it.
I continued refining my approach, adjusting the energy levels, and experimenting with different configurations.
Progress was slow, and there were many setbacks, but each failure taught me something new. I was starting to see glimpses of a possible breakthrough.
However, I needed more data and more time to fully understand the intricate dynamics at play.
But one thing was clear: I was onto something new, something that had the potential to revolutionize the field of formations and runes.
After I cleaned up my notes, I went to sleep since tomorrow is probably going to be rather interesting .
I couldn't help but chuckle at my grandiose thoughts. Being called the ancestor of a new field?
It seems interesting. With that sleep consumed me .

Ning Rong woke up the next morning .

After freshening up, Ning Rong made her way to Elder Qian's quarters. She found him in the garden, meditating under the morning sun. The tranquility of the scene almost made her hesitate, but she steeled herself and approached him.
"Elder Qian," she began, bowing respectfully.
Elder Qian opened his eyes and looked at her with a calm expression. "Good morning, Ning Rong. What brings you here so early?"
"Elder Qian, I wanted to discuss something important with you," she said, her voice steady but with a hint of urgency.
"Sit," Elder Qian instructed, gesturing to a nearby bench. Once they were seated, he looked at her expectantly. "What is it that you wish to discuss?"
Ning Rong took a deep breath. "Elder Qian, I am deeply grateful for your offer to take me as your personal disciple. It is an honor beyond words. However, there is someone else I believe you should consider as well."
Elder Qian raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And who might that be?"
"Ning Feng," she replied. "He is a prodigious talent in our clan, especially when it comes to runes and formations. He has managed to create peak grade 1 runes on his own, and I believe he has the potential to become an exceptional cultivator."
Elder Qian's interest was piqued. "Peak grade 1 runes, you say? That is quite impressive. However, my decision to take you as a disciple was based on your exceptional abilities and potential. What makes you think Ning Feng is deserving of such an honor?"
Ning Rong leaned forward, her eyes earnest. "Ning Feng's talents extend beyond just his ability with runes. He has a keen intellect and a unique perspective on cultivation. Moreover, he has demonstrated remarkable resilience and creativity. I believe that under your guidance, he could achieve great things."
Elder Qian stroked his chin thoughtfully. "You make a compelling case, Ning Rong. However, taking on another personal disciple is not a decision I can make lightly."
"I understand, Elder Qian," she said. "But even if he cannot be your personal disciple, could he at least be given the opportunity to join the sect as an inner disciple? He deserves a chance to prove himself."
Elder Qian considered this for a moment. "Very well. I will allow Ning Feng to join the upcoming disciple selection exam. If he can place in the top three positions, he will be granted the rank of inner disciple."
Ning Rong's face lit up with gratitude. "Thank you, Elder Qian. I am sure Ning Feng will not disappoint."
Elder Qian nodded. "We shall see. Talent is one thing, but perseverance and dedication are what truly make a great cultivator. I hope your confidence in him is well-placed."
As Ning Rong left Elder Qian's quarters, she felt a renewed sense of hope. She knew Ning Feng had the potential to excel, and now he had the chance to prove it. All that remained was to convey the news to Ning Feng and help him prepare for the challenges ahead.
Later that day, Ning Rong found Ning Feng in his usual spot, surrounded by notes and half-finished runes. She approached him with a smile.
"Ning Feng, I have some news for you."
He looked up, curiosity sparking in his eyes. "What is it, Rong?"
"I spoke with Elder Qian this morning," she said. "He has agreed to let you participate in the disciple selection exam. If you can place in the top three, you will be granted the rank of inner disciple."
Ning Feng's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? That's... incredible. Thank you, Rong."
I said with mixed feelings, I haven't really decided if I wanted to enter a sect of this level mainly due to my concerns regarding my soul.
Sigh.
..........
In the quiet serenity of the Ning Clan estate, Ning Wushuang was enjoying a rare moment of peace, sipping tea in his study. The past few days had been tumultuous, and he relished the calmness of the morning. However, the tranquility was soon interrupted by a soft knock on the door.
"Elder Qian is here to see you, Clan Leader," a servant announced.
Ning Wushuang quickly composed himself, setting his tea aside. "Please, show him in."
Elder Qian entered the study with his usual composed demeanor, his presence commanding respect. Ning Wushuang rose to greet him, bowing slightly. "Elder Qian, it is an honor to have you here. Please, sit."
"Thank you, Ning Wushuang," Elder Qian replied, taking a seat opposite the clan leader. "I wanted to discuss a few matters with you."
"Of course," Ning Wushuang said, leaning forward attentively. "What brings you to our humble estate today?"
Elder Qian smiled slightly. "First, I wanted to inform you about a request made by Ning Rong. She approached me this morning and spoke highly of a young member of your clan, Ning Feng. She requested that he be given a chance to join the Heaven Dao Sect."
Ning Wushuang's eyes widened in surprise. "Ning Feng? He is indeed a talented young man, particularly skilled in runes . What did you decide, Elder?"
"I have agreed to let Ning Feng participate in the upcoming disciple selection exam," Elder Qian explained. "If he places in the top three, he will be granted the rank of inner disciple."
Ning Wushuang's face lit up with gratitude. "That is wonderful news. Thank you, Elder Qian. Ning Feng has great potential, and this opportunity will mean a lot to him and our clan."
Elder Qian nodded. "We shall see if he can live up to the expectations. Talent alone is not enough; perseverance and dedication are equally important."
"Indeed," Ning Wushuang agreed. "We will do our best to prepare him for the challenges ahead."
Elder Qian then shifted the conversation. "Now, let us discuss the Jade Immortal Abode. As you know, it is set to open in roughly two years. This is a significant event, and the Heaven Dao Sect has high expectations."
Ning Wushuang nodded solemnly. "Yes, we have been preparing for this. The Jade Immortal Abode is a rare opportunity."
"The Heaven Dao Sect has decided that the Ning Clan will be responsible for providing cultivators to maintain order on our behalf," Elder Qian continued. "It is a great responsibility, but also a testament to the trust the sect places in your clan."
Ning Wushuang felt a surge of pride. "We are honored by the sect's trust. We will not disappoint."
Elder Qian smiled approvingly. "You will have five spots for children the sect has selected. These spots are precious, and the chosen ones must be prepared for the ordeal ahead. The Jade Immortal Abode is not just an opportunity; it is a trial that will test their very limits."
Ning Wushuang's eyes widened slightly. "Five spots? That is more than we expected. Thank you, Elder Qian. We will ensure that the selected children are well-prepared."
"These children are indeed precious, even to the sect," Elder Qian said. "But they must go through this ordeal. It is a crucial part of their growth.
On second thought, if Ning Feng decides to go in and survives and proves himself worthy, I will personally accept him as an inner disciple."
Ning Wushuang bowed deeply, his gratitude evident. "We are deeply grateful, Elder Qian. This is a great honor for Ning Feng and our entire clan."
Elder Qian stood, signaling the end of their conversation. "Ensure that your clan is prepared. The coming years will be challenging, but also filled with opportunities. I look forward to seeing the results."
