Intermission #2 The Darkness

The shadow occupying the Pilidar leader was young. It still retained all of its memories from the beginning. The shadow had a name, but it felt that to be hardly of any consequence anymore. It only existed to serve its owner, even if its owner didn’t want it to. They were bound together by a contract outside of this world.

It felt pretty good, albeit strange, in a Pilidar host. The pilidar was strong and it had chosen attributes that complemented its squat body. The shadow was not too disappointed when the young woman had killed it, just mildly inconvenienced. It was, however, surprised when she brought out that lantern. It had heard of such items, but had never experienced one before.

Already it had flown for a long distance across the shadowy forest and arrived at the ruined stone City of the Six Eyed. The city had once been a massive sprawling home of many people. This place was the home of this particular shadow when it was alive. That was at least until The Darkness arrived.

Its owner had attacked the city one night with countless creatures. The attack had been completely unexpected and the city was quickly overwhelmed. The nearby Gloom had been a known danger to the city, but no one had anticipated it hid creatures in such numbers. This shadow was still disgusted with the underhanded attack by The Darkness.

When this shadow had died in that great battle, its owner had claimed it, perhaps not by choice, but by proximity. Later, The Watch attacked the city that was then full of possessed six eyed paliternians and wiped it clean, but it had not killed the shadows. They had all returned back to The Gloom to rest and recover, only to later reclaim the city. This time, The Watch did not return.

The shadow drifted into the beautifully chiseled library. Its owner was kneeling and crying once more into their many hands. The owner was not currently receiving shadows and this one decided to remain still until they were ready. The room got darker by the second as more and more shadows returned to the structure. Soon all light was blotted out from their mists.

The shadow’s owner pulled their hands away from their long face and once again received them. Tears were still evident on their face, but they went unwiped as the shadows each gave their report. This shadow approached when beckoned and relayed its information as its owner reluctantly touched it. The shadow was surprised when its owner spoke. This was a rarity and it would always remember the words.

“She will head for Termily next.”
