Chapter 4 - Striking a Deal

Abyss who had rested for a while finally got up. He looked at the map that he had received from the Princess and wondered ‘where the hell am I?’ He could see his designated area for he had no idea where in Toad Town he was. He got on top of a building to see if he could tell with the distance of the castle and the general direction it was facing.

In the end he learned something. He is not that smart so he gave up and asked a nearby toad about the his location in the map. He also low key hinted he was hungry. “Hey Toad! I was wondering if you can give me direction to the place on this map. Also I’m starving.”

Yep! He kept it as low key as possible. The toad looked annoyed at the end of his sentence but sighed and said “Alright. Let take a look. I can also ask my friend if he can bake you something. It is rare for strangers to come around especially so unprepared.”

Abyss knew the Toad was mocking him but who cares? There was directions and free food. What can a few bad words do to him? In the end he only smiled and acted somewhat polite to the toad. The toad ended up telling him where exactly he was which to his surprise wasn’t too far from his designated area.

He was quite lucky. He then followed the toad to a nearby restaurant and got some free food. The food consisted of meat and more meat. How lavish… Did they forget to bring the vegetarian menu into this world? He could only feel pity to those vegetarians that arrive in this world. They would surely starve to death soon after.

Looking at the receptionist toad that looked somewhat annoyed he smiled and said “Hello I’m new to town. Might telling me a bit of history and culture around here?” Abyss voiced his question respectfully causing the toad to somewhat relax and sigh. Looking at him with little to no interest he began informing him.

“Welcome to Toad town then. Here we have the kind and merciful ruler known throughout the kingdom as Peach Toadstool. We specialize in selling meat products and other small utilities like shoes, clothes and hammers. I did hear a few other empires have some people that work on those areas but they are mainly for the privileged. There are several kingdoms the one we are in is called the Mushroom Kingdom. The others are less friendly and the Bowsette Kingdom is outright hostile. Make sure to keep out of their land or you be captured. Where you come from though? I haven’t seen a human since the appearance of the twins.”

Abyss shrugged while swallowing a piece of meat and said “If I tell you then you might not believe me.” The Toad nodded wondering if he was from Bowser Kingdom since he would find it hard to believe. Abyss who felt that he still has not finished his repayment asked “Do you have anything you need? All I got is this map which I’m using but I can help you out with it.”

The Toad looked at him and said “Let me take a look. I heard from my friend that you got a small fief in the outskirts of town.”

Abyss took out the map to allow the toad to take a look through it. The toad glanced at it for a second and said “In that case I do have something you can do for me. You see that fief you got was the place which gave the jumpstart to my business. In that place there is a nice pond filled with water, kel and meat scale fishes. Problem is that when I started my business I overfished that area of the meat scale fish leading to the seaweed that used to be eaten by the meat scale fish to overgrow. Mind helping me solve my problem?”

Abyss smiled as he asked “Do I get paid? I’m sure you don’t want that seaweed to be wasted.” The toad laughed for once as he said “Sure! You bring be a box filled with seaweed and I give you a meat scale fish in exchange. This way you can start your own meat scale fish farm although I would appreciate it if you don’t open up a store.”

Abyss chuckled as he said with joy “Deal!” Abyss was previously worried of what he was going to eat. Looking at the toad he said “I’m hate to impose but I might need to borrow some supplies such as a small wagon, boxes and food to survive until production becomes steady to feed me. I sell you the extra or just give it for free if you like.”

The toad smiled as he said “You sure know how to treat others.” Abyss nodded as he said in a leisure manner “Of course. If you don’t get in my way I won’t interfere with you. If you help me then I will accommodate to help you back.”

So the deal was struck and Abyss soon ended up on a small wagon with 9 empty boxes. The 10th box was filled with provisions that could last him until he got a return from the meat scale fish that would be given to him for the exchange of seaweed.
