After I woke up, my empty stomach demanded its tax. As I've hoped the breakfast here was free, at least for me. There seemed to be some kind of currency, but as a scion, I had a certain amount of privilege, or someone was paying for my stay. I didn't think about it too hard as I gulped down the morning soup.
Urg was already eating when I came in, he must have hoarded at least ten meals, at least that's the story that empty bowls around him told. And I am not even counting the plates, who knows what was there.
When we greeted each other and Urg finished his five remaining bowls, I asked him of what he knew about the upcoming trial. He didn't know much, or he didn't say, but what he did told me was that we'll be "Looking to create a miracle". That told me just about nothing, but I was getting used to these cryptic non descriptive tasks. I'd have to make do, though I've no idea how to create a miracle.
We were called by our overseer, to group up. We walked together. Urg didn't bring his guide with him, said that she can't participate in the trials in any way. My disadvantage didn't seem so bad then. Plus, Urg agreed that having an ally could prove useful, so I had a bear on my side.
We were supposed to meet up on a town square, it was made out of large stone slabs, polished to damn near perfection. There was a fountain in the center of it, where most other scions flocked.
It didn't take long before there was trouble. Some two scions decided to fight, from what I've learned afterwards, it seems that their respective races had been in conflict for a very long time, even the gates of Nirvana could not make lowly disputes dissapear it seems.
One of the man was a giant, even bigger then Urg, the other was maybe half his height. Standing next to me, he would come up to my chest.

The giant grabbed a club he was carrying and started smashing about, not caring about other participants. His every blow carried incredibly force. The smaller one managed to dodge each attack, meanwhile he grabbed onto what seemed like a knife on his belt, though he didn't try to cross the distance. Instead, with every dodge he got closer and closer to the fountain.
The giant got angry and sped up. His club becoming faster and faster.
When they got to the fountain, the giant decided to go for an overhead strike. His great club got caught on the fountain top, not even making a crack. The small guy ran out of his hiding place, and slashed at the giants throat, it was a clean cut. Blood sprayed about. The hulking mass of a man fell onto the floor. When the gurgling and spasms stopped, we all knew that he was dead. Just like that, zero interference. It appears like future scions weren't as sacred as it looked like before. It also means that we can kill each other, just fine. That startled me, I had thought that we were going to be helping one another. But the knight in sun gold armor, that appeared during the fighting, didn't move a muscle to stop them.
He was a hulking figure man, fitted with heavy and rather flashy armor. The chestplate bore sigils of flame and light. It was almost as if his armor itself illuminated the stones around.
"Now scions, the real trials begin. Those of you that are here, you have a chance, but that is all you have right now" He reached at his back and produced a giant hammer out of thin air. He smashed the hammer against the stone slabs, though this time they did crack. "If you aspire to wield powers as strong as us and become one of superare, you need to show humility and valor. Only the most virtuous of heroes are granted entry into the middle-town. Those will already reach powers that you never imagined. But you need to fight for powers like these, you need to taste the blood of your enemies to revel in victory as is custom."
Though the knight's face was hidden behind his vizor, I could hear him drawing a smile.
"Now, to war."
He smashed his hammer onto the floors again. A huge crack opened up and started following the participants. The knight laughed as we fell into a dark abyss.
Falling to death, twice in a span of two days no less. Not many achieve such a feat huh? I thought, as everything was drowned out by the dark.
