1986, cold war is starting to slow down, Ronald Reagan prepares for his second reelection, and the Soviet union is showing cracks in their form  1987, American early warning defense stations detect several pulses coming from a region in Germany called the Fulda gap. Suspecting Soviet trickery the Americans send a convoy of soldiers out to investigate, but what they find is beyond what they expected. A Gap between worlds has formed.
