The Beginning of The End

The Beginning of The End

"Pranav! I was beginning to think you wouldn't make it! It's been so long since I've seen you!" Cayden exclaimed. The two were very close friends, they were each other's lighthouses in the storm. Pranav was a smart, caring, and kind person. He couldn't protect himself, even though he was big and strong. He was a giant teddy bear.

On the other hand, Cayden was the night compared to the day. He was small, but many people underestimated him because of his size. He was strong, fit, fast, and agile. He also went to the gym every Sunday.

"Hey Cayden! It's been a week, so not that long. But it's so boring at home. Especially since we were going to this camp in Greenville. That's a 7-hour bus ride with 30 students crammed into a very small space. But who knows, maybe the school broke the bank for us?"

Just as Cayden was about to give Pranav the shock of his life, someone burst through the classroom door.

"GUYS, THE SCHOOL HAS ORGANISED A PLANE FOR US!" Keith exclaimed. Cayden looked at him with bloodshot eyes. That was the only news Cayden had wanted to tell Pranav all week.

Suddenly, the PA system turned on. An annoying voice shouted through the system, "There are still THREE students who haven't come down yet. PRANAV, KEITH, AND CAYDEN, COME DOWNSTAIRS OR YOU WILL NOT BE ATTENDING THIS 5 DAY 4 NIGHT CAMP!!!"

The trio immediately ran towards the main entrance, but it was too late. The bus was gone. The school left the three of them behind. Pranav, Keith, and Cayden were all alone. in an empty school, with no adults at all. The three of them wanted to go home. But they decided to get into some mischief before they left.

Three stepped through the doors. The lights were still on. There was an eerie silence throughout the building. The boys immediately began to rummage through their classroom. They searched for anything that might be of use to them.

All they could find were a pencil, 3 unopened packs of gum, and a brand-new eraser that was still wrapped in cheap plastic.

"Wait a minute, why are we stealing from our class?" Asked Pranav. Keith replied, "Well, we have a fair right after camp. But I can't believe the school just abandoned us here."

"They let us down because we cause the most trouble in school, well not Pranav, but we both always skip school activities because they are boring and useless. So they probably must’ve thought that we're not in school at all." Cayden groaned.

After a while. The clock struck noon. The three of them made their way to the cafeteria, where they ate Cayden's sandwiches. They talked for a while before Cayden had a bright idea. Well, sort of. "Pranav, you're the student council president, right?"

Pranav replied with a grunt. "Why don't we just go to the common room and watch TV?" replied Cayden. Pranav gave him a sideways glance. He wasn't interested in his friend's plan. But after much coaxing, the three of them made their way to the student council common room. There was air conditioning, a mini-fridge and finally a 70-inch flat-screen TV.

Keith excitedly switched on the TV. The only channel they could choose was the news channel. Pranav rolled his eyes and convinced the group to just watch the news channel as it was better than nothing.

"URGENT NEWS: There is a report of a viral outbreak in Terminal 3 at Eldervale International Airport. Witnesses report people suddenly moaning and acting very dead and listless. They had personality changes and even 62- Wait, guys, we just got word that 198 people have died, and- and... 16 people have come back from the dead. They are acting like zombies? According to our local specialist, these 16 people have an increased rate of decomposition and not surprisingly smell bad."

The three of them were wide-eyed. They were surprised. They were completely terrified. What made the whole situation even worse was the fact that. Their class was supposed to be at Eldervale International Airport. Cayden searched online for the flight information for the class to see which terminal the class was supposed to go to. The terminal was, of course, Terminal 3. That was the beginning of the end. They had not expected this. The apocalypse had begun.
