Chapter 1: The Door Without Light

Chapter 1: The Door Without Light

The last thing I needed was a couple of psychos chasing me down a dark and considerably narrow corridor. And so far, the only person who could save me is a deranged girl - Or so it goes.

. . .

A couple of minutes ago - back when I almost considered myself beyond reasonable doubt - lights began to flicker around me, and a panorama of a bloodstained ivory room stripped into view. Only then, did I got the chance to escape six bloodstained maniacs who had me surrounded cutting off any path of escape.

Remembering their drooling mouths as if I was some kind of tasty meal, which in fact, was unnecessarily right brought me goosebumps.

Next thing I knew, I was being led by a mysterious character who calls herself Alisa. The girl was wearing a black miniskirt with a sleeveless yellow shirt on top saying "I'm hot, you're not" which was quite humorous given the current set of circumstances.

Her age would be around 16 years old which would make her the same age as me. To top it all off, her emerald green eyes suits her long wavy black hair. She could only be described as an angel if it weren't for the knife with blood dripping from it.

From what I could see, this chick shouldn't be taken lightly. Did I mention that she is smoking hot? You know what? She really is. Without a single doubt.

By the looks of things, we're currently running away from what I can simply put as zombies. They didn't even notice the large gashes they had in their gut thanks to Alisa. Nor did they have the sense of pain a normal human would have.

If not for their builds which were a bit different from humans, they would be like the zombies I see in the movies I liked to watch.

We sped through many corridors clearly unaware of what lies ahead. Due to the white but bloodstained walls and the outfits of the carcasses that could be seen just about everywhere, this might have once been a hospital.

The walls, the ceilings... even on the floor... blood was everywhere. It gives me the chills as to how many bodies would've been needed to produce this much blood.

"This way".

I was caught off guard by her sudden voice filled with urgency that I did not notice how she sounded like.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

I followed her through the murk until we came upon a concealed door leading to a room you wouldn't expect to fit here. Hearing the footsteps just around the corner, I complained.

"Those bastards are still tailing us!" I said in a panicky voice.

"Let's get in there".

Alisa motioned on a trap door made of oak concealed on the floor. She then went and pulled it as I prayed hard for it to be open.

'Please be open! Please!'

And God seemed to have heard my prayers as Alisa successfully opened the door. Without waiting for her, I quickly rushed in for cover.

. . .

Normally, any person stuck in the same scenario we're in would've flipped in absolute panic by now. We were obviously in a life and death situation as we speak, and yet, seeing how she could still muster the guts to grin over this serious matter, made me question her sanity.

The room on one hand, was a total mess. Hundred of papers and folders littered the floor beneath us.

I was just about to pick up some documents to read when Alisa whisphered something in my ear.

Close! Too close!

"Barricade the door with something".

Ignoring the cold and commanding tone, her voice sounded heavenly just like the singers in the operas you could hear in television.

I went towards the bookshelf and tried moving it to block the door we came from.

Hnnggg! Too heavy!

I looked towards Alisa to ask for help but she was walking towards the only door in the room aside from the one we came through.

"Be careful" I warned.

She still went on nonchalantly ignoring what I have said out of concern.

With the bookshelf's heavy weight, I gave up and moved towards the table near the door. As I was on my way, my gaze fell upon an open safe.

Curiosity got the best of me and I plunged my hand inside. I could feel a few neatly ordered pieces of papers and a folder. I took the folder to look at its contents.

I began reading its contents and my expression changed many times. It's kinda bizzare, really. The contents contained research documents on human experimentations. It wasn't complete though. It was clearly lacking a few pages especially the results and the side effects of the experiments.

Growing more interested, I took the few pieces of paper inside the safe and read through them. They contained a few profiles of experimental candidates and their data.

I just browsed through them not knowing one of the profiles there was mine. On the paper read:

Romano Grimfells. 16. Program Bokor candidate.

"Hey Alisa, take a look at this!"

Hearing no response, I turned and saw no one was inside the room. The door Alisa was intending to open was wide ajar leading to an endless void of darkness.

Despite the fear of encountering more of those zombiefied crazies, I still went in hoping to not lose the only living human that this place might have.
