Chapter 9

Lucas opened his eyes as he logged off and rubbed his head. As he did so, the woman from the company saw him.

“Is something wrong?” she asked.

“Are all the npc your company sent to the lords so overbearing as the one i got?” He asked.

“Huh?” she tilted her head confused.

“Nothing.” he waved it off.

What had happened the last few hours was Valring showing off her incredibly high intelligence. These are her stats which Lucas checked.

This is the result of her protecting her intelligence which she said was several times higher before. If she had decided to be even, her base stats would have all been around 15 but because she wanted to put her knowledge as her bargaining chip she choose the hard method.

Now exactly what made him so tired, well, as she said before. Succubus were the servants of the demon lord and not low ranking ones at that, they are all educated and are all trained to be able to teach the next generation demon lord.

The first way she showed off her intelligence is in researching. The base intelligence needed for any creature to become a researcher at his orders is 10. From what she explained, having a researcher with 10 intelligence, which to demons equals to the mental capacity of a young pubescent human, it can improve the speed of research by about 50%. At 20 intelligence, it doubles. At 50 it triples the speed and at around 75 it quadruples.

Her intelligence almost reduces the speed by around four times. With the common tier 1 research, it would take between 1 to 3 days in game but because she entered, it took a little over half a day.

As for the first research she asked him to make was paper making. Why, because she needs that to prepare material to teach him and following that was writing.

He hadn’t seen it finish though because they were arriving at his home but he knew what was coming. He knew because of their development plan.

Because they now had to face the Devil’s race as their enemy, one which was very powerful at that, they choose a slower more ‘careful’ development.

First would be far less combat, because he gained experience for every kill his minions did, they would have to develop more like the humans and develop in the ‘smart’ way. Demons would rarely do this because it leaves minions too weak to defend but that is where they will exploit one of the systems.

First off, demons can’t gain experience points through skill gain or skill training but they gain only 50% of exp through quests. In that case, they simply need to set up continuous quests for the imps.

Continuous quests drop the experience gain to only 25% of the full value but all minions will get this and can train and gain experience. If they develop the quests better, they could have the imps gain small bits of experience through daily training through the minion quests.

This was a very slow paced development plan but with her high intelligence, at the minimum, in around a month they would be able to unlock all the most necessary basic facilities to train the minions.

The second most important thing is resource development.

From water to wood to stone, all these are needed resources which are on the low side and all need one kind of research or another which has to be done if they want to properly set up. Especially forester, this is a special class for demons which can allow them to alter the terrain and is considered the turning point for demon lords as their limits of wood resource will end after they begin develop their demon forests.

He was sure to not be the #1 player but if the others didn’t face problems like him, he was most definitely going to possibly become the more ‘unique’ demon lord.

The van soon parked in front of the shack and the few workers got down along with the cleaners. They walked inside with Lucas, the cleaners were shocked at the mess while Lucas pointed to some things to take like his electronics. He moved to the small drawer and packed his clothing in a few small bags, since he didn’t have many, while the rest of the dirty clothing was just topped off in the laundry basket to be washed later.

The cleaners began to do their job by opening the windows and shades before having to clean up all the instant noodles. The remaining noodle cups he actually packaged up in boxes since he still had no money for ‘luxury food’ so his life was still surviving off noodles.

When his things were packed, he decided to help clean and eventually the dark and dusty interior turned much cleaner with most of the mold and dust gone.

When they were done, they finally left with the packaged items and the debt with the landlord resolved. Now he would have to pay the company but that was much better since he would only start paying that off in 6 months and would probably, or hopefully, have money in reserves.

In the van he logged in once more. This time he only got a food production update and three wild imps had been attracted to the village and joined.

“My lord! The writing research is complete, it is now easier to learn the writing skill for sire and the imps.” Valring said walking over. She pulled out a scroll. This scroll was made in accord with the paper making research, it is a papyrus scroll. It requires 2 units of wood to produce one scroll measuring 10 meters in length.

“I have completed a perfect manuscript which lord can copy to learn the skill easily.” She said.

“What is the ink?” he asked.

“Ink of course.” she said and took out a piece of charcoal made of wood, “Charcoal is easy to turn into ink.” She said simply and produced a small bowl of ink and a wooden pen.

“Okay but what will be the next research?” he asked.

“Forester, we need wood, after that is miner and then farmer.” She said with clear dominance in the relationship as a teacher and advisor of an inexperienced leader. She had long seen through Akor and his lack of knowledge. First she wanted to test his writing skills and would slowly move along the many other subjects to fill in his lacking knowledge. An unknowledgeable king is only a fool with a crown and a bunch of stupid loyal subjects.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

He was given a clean scroll and amazingly, actually allowed himself to be schooled and when Valring saw his writing skills, she almost choked at the scribbles.

“Um… my lord, have you distributed your stats?” She asked.

“No, why?” he asked.

“Perfect, can you please put all 5 points in dexterity.” She said.

He blinked and frowned. “Why?” he asked.

“Because dexterity is related to your motor control and how well you can do delicate work like writing.” She said.

“Oh.” He said and thought a bit before opening his status window and putting all five into dexterity.

As soon as he confirmed it, he suddenly felt a tingling and suddenly painful shocks on all his nerves from the base of his neck down to the tips of extremities and it was extremely painful because it was the nerves themselves multiplying and maturing. With the improvements from the demon heart he had 9 dexterity which corresponds with an almost mature adult human.

For demons, the four physical stats are all similar to humans in which the average of 7-10 would be an adult humans development while intelligence, in the mental area, would be half as effective as a human, in which case it needs 20 intelligence to equal a human in mental development, but that is only mental development because magic wise they are the same.

When the pain finally subsided, Akor began to feel his body and movements and they seemed strangely keener but his body felt more natural. For one his sense of control was almost perfect to what he had in real life now.

Taking the wooden pen, he tried to write once more and different from the scribles before, his common letters came out. Of course they were at most legible now which made Valring’s brow twitch but she could at least read it and she had some place to work from. The hardest part he had now was his size difference which was the main problem he had in his sense of balance and control.

Since he can’t level up he will need a lot of help from developing the nation and making the villages.

She left him to copy and went to speed up the research for the foresters class.

When he finished the last letter he finally got a prompt.

You have learned the Skill ‘Writing’

Writing

Level 1

You are capable of writing readable letters.

(requires at least 5 dexterity)

He sighed when he saw that he actually succeeded but it was only level one which meant he needed a lot of practice, he looked at his own letter which he had not seen in some time.

Ding!

Update

Research: Forester class complete

When he saw the prompt he perked up and pressed to see the unlocked features.

Description

Unlocked items

Forester

A class which is responsible for planting and replanting trees to harvest. These people are also responsible for maintaining forests from being clean cut.

Forester class

Tree Planting skill

Forester hut

Tree Planting skill

The primary skill of a forester, to use this skill, they will require seeds or resource to replant. 1 unit of wood is required for replanting 3 tree sprouts.

Forester hut

A profession building. This building is required to assign the class of forester to a minion. One hut is manned by only 3 workers.

“So to give classes needs a specific building.” he said surprised.

“My lord, the research is complete!” Valring came in saying.

“I saw. I got the writing skill.” He said.

“Great, now lord’s writing skills will only improve, we will work on it daily from now on.” She said excited.

Akor didn’t know if he should feel happy or sad about that but he did feel somewhat refreshed. In all other games he played with the roll of a leader, there has never been someone to educate him and instead they expected him to already know because he was a player.

Unknowingly he had already accepted her as his teacher and wished to ‘fix’ his biggest and most major flaw which was his incomplete education.

“Shouldn’t we go make the forester hut?” he asked.

“Of course my lord!” she said.

They went to the town management.

“Wow… they need a lot of wood.” He said.

“That is only ‘a lot’ because we haven’t developed yet, later for something as simple as our capital cities walls will need tens of thousands of units of stone and wood.” she said.

Of course he knew this, he had passed through enough situations of city management that he knew some of the resource consumption that they would face. He was shocked because these were just level 1 buildings.

He pressed to build a single Forester hut and saw the map appear.

“Where do we build it?” he asked.

“A forester hut always makes a space around 100 meters around it the ‘field’. We also need to take into consideration the demon tree’s development pattern and avoid the main water sources.” She said.

“Demon tree?” Akor asked.

Tutorial Guide

Demon Tree is the most basic as well as most savage tree breed demons can plant as foresters. It is a very environment aggressive tree which drains the vitality of the land and water in the soil leaving badlands in their wake. They require a special technique to be properly raised which only demon foresters learn from the start.

“Isn’t it dangerous to plant these trees?” he asked.

“It’s not like we can change anything. In similar cases, dwarf foresters are said to plant Iron tree, Elves plant elf tree and humans plant oak and pine trees. Each monster and animal has their own specialty provided by the gods.” She said.

“I see.” He said.

He looked at the green space outside the village, which was different from the common space.

He avoided the hunting grounds and 150 meters to the west, which is just around the bend of the mountain they lived on, he placed the foresters hut.

“Alright, get all the imps to build it to transport the wood fast enough.” Valring said.

They closed the windows and walked outside and made the order.

They were given the minion quest and began to run to move the wood walking in an unorderly.

“You know it will be a bit hard at the start right?” Akor asked.

“It takes 1 day for the demon tree to reach cutting size and each tree produces 3 wood each. 1 wood for 3 so 3 makes 9. It will probably take a week or so to fill this land. That said, we must make sure that there are 3 foresters or there will be too few demons caring for the trees.” she said.

“Just curious but how are these trees controlled?” Akor asked.

“That is easy, they are ‘bled’ for their sap. It is a great item which we can make into adhesive. If we are lucky and some rare varieties appear, we could get luxury goods like Demon Syrup after processing it and can be added as food increasing the food production.” She said.

“Are there only demon trees like that? No fruits?” He asked.

“That is the job of farmers. It will take us along while to get to that stage since we are still at wild fruits.” She said.

“I understand.” Akor said.

“After we get wood, make sure to finish all the building upgrades and build more forester huts but whatever you do, keep it away from water sources. If it reaches the water sources it can destroy the water source leaving us without nearby water.” she said.

“Alright.” He nodded making sure to remember where all the water sources were.

They watched the construction and when it was finally finished he walked inside. The inside was simple and had a empty wooden pots and a faintly glowing stone. Touching it Akor could feel the class information.

Demon Lord Detected, please choose three minions to class change into Forester

Seeing the screen, Akor turned and pointed to three imps. “You three will work as foresters now.” He said.

Three lights came from the stone and drilled into the heads of the imps. These three were level 2 imps and weren’t mindless. They fell into a stupor and Valring nodded, “Good, they entered a ‘training trance’ which where the most major information needed for the class is imprinted into their mind. Once they wake up from this state, they will start working on their own.” She said.

“Are we going to research mining now?” he asked.

“Yes, also order the idle minions to clear up the weeds, it is a very valuable source of wood that needs to be exploited early on or we can’t develop.” She said.

He nodded and agreed and sent back the farming imps while the rest were ordered to clear the weeds from around the village in a circular fashion so that one side isn’t left closer and another isn’t.

They spread out running to go remove the weeds and clear the land for development that needed to be done.

At that moment a call came from outside and Akor returned to his home and logged off to move into his new home.
