Earth – World of The Misplaced Dungeon
{Timeline: February 2019 – MD shortly before Ch. 79}
Lani was in a foul mood when she got home. Additionally she was scared for her friends and for herself. She was relieved that her parents weren’t back yet. She found her sister Alia lost in her ipad.
Lani grabbed the little menace and dragged her protesting loudly all the way to her room.
Alia blinked at the blurry sight that was her older sister and briefly cleaned her glasses before seating herself on Lani’s bed and putting on her glasses. Lani endured her kid sister’s ritual and waited until Alia could see again.
“Apikalia Lapin, you’ve got to help me. I know you read all the books that Katy lends me. I’ve heard you giggle when you do.”
“Well Keilani Lapin, you’ve never complained before and they are funny.”
“They’re romances Alia, not comedies.”
“Could have fooled me,” retorted Alia.
Lani fumed quietly for a while her sister grew increasingly nervous as she awaited the coming explosion. “Erm, what help do you want – need from me,” she finally said hesitantly in the hopes of defusing the situation.
“Katy, Sammy and Zeke have chosen to become Vamires,” Alia’s eyes grew huge behind her glasses. “Not undead vampires, some kind of human variant. Vampiric or something.” Lani slumped dejectedly, “and they expect me to join them.”
Alia’s eyes darted to her sister’s prized surfboard, “but what about surfer dude? And – and—”
“Look brainiac, can you find me something cool I can show Katy that won’t keep me in out of the sun? Something from those romances?”
Alia’s eyes slitted in amusement and she broke out in uncontrollable giggles.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
“Apikalia Lapin! Stop giggling this instant or I’ll tickle you.”
Alia wiped her eyes and grinned. “Katy is the boss right? And she’s as dumb as a rock right? Those books have all sorts of shape shifters; demons, dragons, succubus and what have you. But they also have elves right. And the System has various types of elves. Why don’t you go for one of those. They’re safe. Just tweak the appearance so you look suitably exotic and lie.”
Lani just looked at her sister while her thoughts raced. “What about the mate bond thing that Katy’s enamoured with?”
“Lie. It’s that idiocy that turns most of those books into comedies. You really wouldn’t like it especially if surfer guy wasn’t selected.”
“And what about you sister mine, will you go elf too?”
“Me but... Um, Lani I can’t see the blue screens yet.”
“But you’re old enough Alia, according to the government website the system considers fourteen yesr olds to be adults and you’re nearly fifteen. So you’re gonna show me how it’s done. And you’re going to make the screens public so you don’t screw me up.”
Then Lani jumped on her sister pinning her to the bed and started tickling her. “You better start seeing those screens ‘cause I’m not stopping till you do.” She told her shrieking sister.
Later Alia gazed sullenly at her sister and under threat of more tickling she made her integration screens public. She selected her race and called up elves. “Well Lani, what do you want, High Elf, Elf or Sea Elf.”
“Why does the Elf entry have a star after it?” asked Lani.
Alia sighed and selected the star getting a list of other variants. “User defined variations that are still basically an elf.”
The sisters read all the information on the various elven options and Lani opted for sea elf so she forced Alia to select sea elf and confirm the race. Alia sighed then selected eyesight choosing to have twenty twenty vision then made sure her hearing was perfect.
“What about age Alia?”
“What about it, you remain the age you are.”
“Huh. Select age and lets see what it says.”
“You bitch Lani, the default was safe but now I’m going to be fourteen in elf.” Alia started to check all the available options and almost fainted when she realized she might have forgotten half of her life.
Lani laughed and confirmed her choices. Then she looked at her frantic sister and laughed again.
“You’re going to get into so much trouble Lani.” Alia glowered at her laughing sister and dove back into the interface. “Hair colour, um, black with blue highlights, now skin colour. Let’s get rid of the blue tinge. Good.”
“The cosmetic modifications – I forgot – you made me forget Alia, lets chop a year or two off your age.”
Alia jerked back. “Integration complete! Accept current selection.” She shrieked in a panic. And then Alia was shrinking.

When the Lapins got home that evening they were confronted with one daughter with dark blue hair and a blue tinged skin and a furious six year old in place of their serious fourteen year old bookworm.
Lani and Alia ended up in the same hospital as Katy and Sammy.
