Hello there, folks, I have now started to post A Chronicle of Lies - Book 1 - Puppeteer on Royal Road. You can't buy the whole book yet, I'm still waiting to hear back from Aethon, but I have a year's worth of backlog, so I figured...why not start posting? So that's what I'm doing. (And maybe some of you will catch mistakes I missed, lol.)
So...what's different about this revised version? Well, without getting into spoiler territory, the biggest changes have to do with the following:
Vincent is less of an asshole. He's still an asshole, but I give more of his backstory and I make him more sympathetic/likeable. I show the reader why he is the way he is. I show that he has a soft spot for children. This can be seen in his interactions with Xalix and his grandchildren. ((I expanded those interactions).
I've expanded the following scenes: His time with Thal'rin. His time in the markets.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Plot changes: (SPOILER TERRITORY. DO NOT READ IF YOU NEVER CAUGHT UP TO CHAPTER 24)
Vincent will realize he has amnesia much earlier on in the story. This makes it an integral part of the narrative. His amnesia is a threat to his existence. He also makes a link between the it and the storms. This will solidify his decision in Meldohv to accompany the expedition. This change, I'm hoping, will provide a more cohesive narrative.
Related to the above change, his panic attack in the markets will be paced a lot better. I provide context to it from events that happened in previous chapters and there's more of as buildup.
Lesser changes:
The fight on the devourer's thread has been tweaked.
Some weapons have been removed and replaced to get rid of certain anime vibes.
So, what's the future of A Chronicle of Lies. Will it become a stub? I'm still waiting to hear back from Aethon. If they pick me up, I'm going to try to convince them to let me post up to where we left off the last time around. If not, and they say I have to take everything off, I'll have to think about it.
If they turn me down, I'll immediately publish on Amazon. I'll keep posting chapters and go a little further than the first run. Anyway, hope you guys give the new edition a follow!
