#36 Delivery | Cargo

The townscape spanned forth, presenting buildings that were much taller than the ones in Algoria town.

Elevated walkways latching out from the many floors served as footpaths and roofings for the civilians that walked by.

From a bird's eye view, one would notice that the town was shaped like a plus with each end sticking toward the four valleys.

This layout accommodated the limited space, perfect for the town which sat in the cross-section of four mountains.

As usual, the townscape were filled with varying Striders flying back and forth, doing whatever they were doing.

Taxiing people, delivering heavy cargo, patrolling the streets, and keeping the peace? You name it.

Each walkway floor was cluttered with crowds of people and everything was bustling as usual.

People would stop by on the side building rows to enter tailors, cafés, and varying stores.

The town square itself looked like a gigantic shopping mall built vertically with elevated walkways latching out.

The walkways also had bridges that connected to either side which made traversing across higher lofts much simpler.

Pneumatic conveyer belt staircases were also present to transport people up and down.

Around three on each side could be seen every few blocks down the main avenue street.

Lift platforms powered by wind magic pulleys made whirring noises as they sucked in air to reel and release the cables.

These were also situated once every few blocks to accommodate the handicapped or heavy-load-cargo.

Much to Vixella's somewhat lacking knowledge of the current world, they were also simply called 'Escalator' and 'Elevator'.

"Nearly everyone has a hat on... It feels weird to not have one on... Just where did I lose my hat?"

Vixella sighed to herself as she tilted the joystick forward, maintaining an altitude above the main avenue street.

Coming this far into the mainland of Demo, she still wondered how these wind-magic wonders were supplied regularly.

Perhaps the abducting of the magically talented to exploit their magical powers weren't too far off for a guess.

That couldn't be what those magic draining tubes they talked about back in Afria were meant for?

A voluntary donation of magic inside some painful tube thing... Plus you get paid for it? As if.

Why even go through all that trouble when you can just shove some prisoners in there or something.

Surely, things will be better now that her 'Magical Induction Jars' had finally begun to make their debut around here.

After parking her Strider in one of the parking rows nearby, Vixella began walking towards the pick-up destination.

Upon walking for a while, Vixella abruptly stopped in her tracks upon realizing someone was trying to purposedly bump into her.

Much to her expectations, an envelope with a familiar stamp seal was now sticking out the side of her sturdy messenger bag.

She subtly walked out of the row of people and leaned against a lamppost beside a closed storefront to read it.

Hello Xiveall,

C completely ignored the Elderian King's orders, have we now?

Report about you to the king?

You surely jest!

My dearest The hero who ended the Great War surely deserves some time off, no?

Rest there while you can... Things of greater importance shall come very soon.

Moving on, our reliable contacts and networking inside the Demo continent have been established.

As you saw earlier, the fellow who delivered this letter was under our company's chain of command.

Ah... My apologies! Surely you have no interest in such tedious adult business and issues.

This letter is merely sent to tell you that your Magical Induction Jars have officially made its debut in Demo.

The inventor's identity... Or your Identity... Still is, per the agreement settled back in Afria, being kept with utmost secrecy.

Having said that, I'm sure you won't need my help until something troublesome comes up.

Not to be of much worry for I am sure you will soon meet many helpful friends over there.

In return, those friends will eventually help you out in the dire situations you shall stumble upon.

Does that occurrence come naturally thanks to that HeRO's bLeSsInG?

"Did Xenthur mess up his handwriting...?"

Vixella shrugged the thought before continuing to read the last paragraphs.

Just pray that your new friends don't get in the way of our true ambitions.

Are you perhaps interested? What I have planned out so far for us?

The Holy Sect of Licht has begun to move.

I'm afraid they have reached the Demo continent as well.

I shall inform you about everything in person.

See you soon,

Xenthur.

A CENTURY LATER

(Bustling Town Transition Music)

Western Nobility Quarters, Symphotia Town.

"In conclusion, I need a signature from someone belonging to this household."

Vixella handed over the clipboard towards the housemaid attending to her.

"Our lady is currently not present... So please allow me to sign the papers in her stead."

She signed her name onto the clipboard before passing it back over.

"So... Miss Martha? Thank you for choosing Strider Mail."

Vixella paused as she turned around to see two men trying to move the large tall crate towards her Strider.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

"You're welcome!"

She blurted out as if in a hurry.

"Is there something else I should know?"

Vixella began asking out of concern.

"No, not at all."

Martha tried to keep a steady smile as she quickly glanced towards the crate then back at Vixellla.

"Is there something peculiar about the package?"

A loud thud in the background interrupted them as the two men toppled the tall crate over sideways.

Vixella ran up and brushed the men aside before preparing to lift the large tall crate back up.

"This is how you do it... Back straight... Relax your knees... Hup!"

"Oho! So strong!"

The old butler gave a little applause as he commended her.

"Waah, this crate is sure heavy! It looks big enough to fit someone inside-"

The young gardener laughed.

"Well... I can assure you that our house doesn't deal with human trafficking."

"Yes... And since I have household duties, I'll leave the rest to you all!"

Martha claimed from the background before spinning around to pace away, nearly tripping over as she did so.

In return, the old butler smiled slightly as he stepped up beside Vixella to watch Martha run back into the household.

"Well, I'm sure she has a lot of duties to manage in Lady Iris' stead..."

"Lady Iris... When will she return? I miss those kind words and that soothing smile of hers."

The young gardener hugged himself as he began swaying left and right.

"Mmm! Don't we all?"

The old butler raised his head and closed his eyes to start kissing something in the air.

Vixella derped at the two who seemed to be lost within their weird thoughts and delusions.

"Seems like this Lady Iris of yours is... Quite the wonderful person!"

"Yup! Everyone enjoys working here in her household! Even the guards who stand around the walls all day enjoy it!"

The young gardener danced about as he smiled happily to express his devotion alongside his spoken words.

"Now, young miss might be thinking why, am I right...? It's because she treats all of us like her own family...!"

The old butler stepped in as Vixella looked back and forth at the two men happily dance around her.

"Seeing you guys this happy, I would also like to meet her sometime."

"Sure! Give us an address to send an invitation letter to!"

"Let me write down my address behind the business card... Here..."

She pulled out a business card from her sturdy messenger bag and wrote with the pen from the clipboard.

"Wait, isn't she the Courier Six that Lady Iris kept talking about yesterday...?"

The gardener took a glance at the butler before turning back to face Vixella.

"Hm? I presumed that she would look a bit more... Well..."

"A bit more what?"

"Intimidating."

"Aah, I get that a lot."

"That aside... You stopped the hijacking and even saved Lady Iris from... That foul man...!"

The young gardener asked further, somewhat angry as he clenched his fist while growling.

"Wait... That girl I saved was the same Iris?"

"Indeed! I've happened to read about your heroics in the morning newspaper as well."

"Hey...", the gardener turned to face the butler, "But since she's not a Symphotian Citizen, she'll need clearance to visit again-"

"It's alright, Caspian! I'll arrange everything for her by then so you can rest easy!"

The old butler clapped the boy's shoulder, much to him who nodded.

"Hey, old man! You finally said my name for once? Guess I'll just call you Floyd from now on then!"

"Hoho... But talking about names, we haven't even properly introduced ourselves to her."

Floyd hinted to Caspian as they both glanced at Vixella who stood there, wondering what they were up to.

Caspian coughed to recompose himself before bringing Floyd up beside him.

"Whoops! Sorry there! As you might've heard... I'm Caspian, and this old man's Floyd...!"

"I'm not supposed to state my name during work but... I guess this is fine? Just call me Vixella."

She stretched out a hand to shake Caspian's hand before switching to Floyd's.

"Now that's a name I don't see every day? Did you come from the neighboring islands?"

At this point in the conversation, Vixella had completely forgotten about the crate that she still bore upon her left shoulder.

"Well... It's no doubt that you're strong..."

Caspian lowered his voice slightly.

"Aah...?"

Vixella raised an eyebrow.

"The crate..."

Floyd pointed out.

"What about it?"

She glanced at it for a short while yet still didn't understand what they were getting at.

"Aren't you going to put it down in your Strider...?"

Caspian slowly pointed at the Strider parked in the foreground.

"Yeah, I'll do it... And about that clearance thing you talked about... Is Lady Iris someone important around here?"

Vixella asked as she hauled over the crate and placed it in the back compartment of her Strider.

"Huh? Didn't you know? She's the Symphotian President's Daughter!"

The gardener, Caspian, walked towards her and exclaimed in disbelief.

She vaulted herself over the Strider's side and into the cockpit.

"So that explains why there were so many guards around the outer walls."

"You don't say!"

"Guess I'll be seeing you guys later when your Lady returns home then?"

"See you around! I'll be sure to send you an invitation letter when Lady Iris returns home!"

Caspian shouted back as he and Floyd watched the peculiar Strider soar up to zoom away into the far horizons.
