#31 Migration | Job

'We Always Deliver (No Matter What)'

Upon seeing the notice, Vixella plucked it off the job-recruitment board and paced towards the counter.

They were a special delivery company called 'Strider-Mail'.

Demo's most reliable postal delivery service.

Its HQ was currently situated in Algoria District.

She asked around the job information center to learn further about the said company.

Arriving at the far-off reaches usually by train, the couriers would use their designated Striders to deliver packages.

A badass delivery job?

Sign me up, Vixella thought.

The roiling civil war, however, had scared away many proficient people from the company's risky line of work.

The civil war was the main reason why they were currently openly recruiting rather than being selective.

Vixella ignored all the 'civil war stuff' and sought that delivering mail on a strider could be a fun thing to do.

Upon being warned by the receptionist that she was talking to that the job was dangerous, Vixella brushed her aside.

"Aah, no way I'll back down! It's extraordinarily good pay for doing such a simple job... What else can I wish for-!?"

Requirements were that you must at least able to pilot a Strider to the advanced degree above the standards.

The pilot must also be healthy enough to be able to deliver packages and defend themselves from common threats without fail.

Lastly, the employees were able to take their civilian model Striders and covert them at the company for actual delivery use.

The recruitment test will be done with standardized training Striders though.

Of course, as mentioned earlier, there will also be a hand-to-hand combat test beforehand.

A specific time and place were also included in the notice.

The Hand-to-Hand Combat Test...

The Strider-Maneuvering Pilot Test...

Vixella looked down at the described location on the note.

"Guess I'll go do this combat thing today then."

A few hours later, Vixella pondered to herself as she swiped another page on the housing catalog in her lap.

Wait, what happened to the hand-to-hand combat test!?

She passed with flying colors after sending the examiner to the hospital.

Sitting on a comfy-looking couch, Vixella was currently reading through the housing list by a certain real estate office.

The evening horizon shone through the windows as the real estate agent nearby seemed very well content despite the wait.

Vixella at first glance could be mistaken for a wealthy mistress of the upper class.

Furthermore, she insisted on buying a place before night came no matter what.

The agent took this for granted and kept the office up and running despite it being long past the usual closing time.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Vixella, eventually giving up, sighed, and pulled out the map she had received from the inspector.

She tapped a spot on the map by the town square, specifically Strider Mail's HQ.

"I'm looking for a place around here... Furnished, if possible."

"Places around that area will be expensive-", the agent paused at the bundle of cash rested onto the table, "Then let's see here..."

A CENTURY LATER

(Night Transition Music)

Vixella yawned as she tilted the joystick forward, piloting her Strider through a tight alleyway before exiting onto a wide street.

The Strider drifted slowly and descended onto a mechanical arm that grasped it to the docking station by an elevated platform.

She then slid down the garage door before locking it with one of the many keys from the earlier given keychain.

A crescent moon shone in the dark and starry skies above as Vixella passed through an archway to enter a small courtyard.

In front of her laid a small cottage beyond a neat marble fountain that seemed well-kept.

The garden was said to be tended to by district workers so she didn't have to mind it.

Upon entering the said cottage, the inside was pretty large and furnished... It even came with a double king-sized bed!

It was a perfect place for a lovely couple to stay together.

But Vixella was single and had other plans, so that was out of the question.

It was vintage yet nostalgic feeling for her to be in such a neat and cozy place.

A slight memory of the former world then sparked through her consciousness.

The cottage's interiors were well-furnished... The toilet was connected to the bedroom and kitchen.

It was perfect since one was able to grab something to eat in the morning right after bathing.

Finally, the living room connected everything to the side.

It was, well, a long detour that she would rarely use.

After finishing business in the toilet, Vixella prepared herself to rest for the big day ahead.

Stripping herself of the newly worn attire, she carefully began placing them into the wall-closet nearby.

Now with only her underwear remaining, she spread out her arms and fell onto the comfy water bed.

"Aaaaaaawwwwh... At last..."

Vixella yawned happily as she dug her face into the pillow.

During the Great War, Xiveall would have had little time for such comfortable sleep periods.

Vixella by then had planned to dally and cherish every moment of this new peaceful life.

A weary yet satisfied look came on her sleeping face as she pulled the string and turned-off the Flame-Magic lamp above.
