I was fired from my old job, a terrible retail job on the other side of the city. Though maybe I shouldn't be saying fired, it's more like the place literally caught fire and everyone working there was laid off. Thankfully nobody died there but some workers did have some injuries since it happened during night shift. But now outside of that, I am now suddenly jobless and my bills are due in two weeks….hooray….
All I've been doing everyday is eating, sleeping, doomscrolling, looking for listed job opening…repeat the cycle. I've searched for jobs all across the city that match my previous occupations, they all either have shitty or no insurance coverage, are a known toxic workplace, participate in union busting or just much more far off than my last job which I guess means it's time to look for any and every job I can find no matter if I have experience or not. Eventually I come across a recent listing for a club called 5 Days, I've heard of these, one of them is pretty close to my place. It's super well funded, gets a lot of people in there day and night when they open, I've only ever seen videos of the place but the talk I've always heard of the robots there being the most intelligent out there seems to have some truth. All the workers are apparently robots, barring whoever works security and the owner of the place. The robots that are male presenting work day shifts Sunday through Tuesday for a predominately female demographic whilst fem presenting workers do Wednesdays and Thursdays night shifts that start in the evening according to the time listed with a pretty mixed gender demographic it seems. I guess everyone loves the female-presenting robots.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Taking a look at the available jobs though…the job opening is for the security guard position, i guess the old security got tired and quit? I suppose after a while it becomes annoying going there every single day having to kick out people when they get too drunk, making sure nothing goes awry or is stolen. Not to mention the boredom of no human interaction the majority of that time…hm wait actually that sounds right up my all….
You know what?
Let me go ahead and apply, I think I'd be able to handle that just fine, I'm not all that extroverted anyways!
I take a few minutes to fill out the application with all my info.
Giving my application the once over after finishing filling it out, I nod and send it in with no hesitation.
And with that,I shut down my computer, get up, stretch, undress, put on an oversized shirt and then head straight to bed, with zero thoughts of what could possibly transpire in the next few days.
