The year was 2413, Earth had been at peace, and had learned to advance in leaps and bounds with technology, to the point where we had successfully achieved the technology to embark on a journey amongst the stars. Yet, while the year 2413 could be marked as a beginning of a new era of mankind, in a cruel twist of fate, everything seemed to turn around.

The first large ship to be launched into space was lost within a month of launch while travelling within Alpha Centauri, the closest solar system next to ours. The small colony that we had worked so hard to build and flourish on Mars was wiped out. The colonies on the moon were in the same condition, except we knew what hit them. Creatures from out of space that destroyed everything in their paths.

Their intentions or reasons why are still unknown. When they approached Earth, we were ready. Various nations had formed coalitions, alliances and federations, and fought against the creatures in out of space first, with our defense platforms. When we finally saw them in person, we had come to learn that they were nothing that we thought they would be. We couldn't have been more wrong.

Their ships were huge monstrous vessels that were large creatures with their own sentience. Able to launch large spikes and use their tentacles to destroy everything. Their outer skins were impenetrable, only by hitting their insides did we figure this out. Their species were broken into four main creatures, excluding their large meat ships.

The first was named the Sky Raiders, large air boned birds with a wing span of 15 meters. They flew so fast and quickly that it defied our knowledge of air resistance, as it would swoop down and cut people's heads off with their large talons. Their two heads would attack differently, with one controlling sound, and the other controlling the wind to attack.

The next was named the Skimmers. We had no idea how, but they emerged from the sea, with slim like bodies, and large fins and tails to allow the to swim so effectively through water that they practically glided through the water like it was nothing. Their bodies spanned at least 20 meters wide and were covered from head to toe in a gel like substance that absorbed damage thrown at them.

Following that, creatures that stood up to a height of three meters tall, and had stood on all four legs. They're covered in head to toe in thick bone like armor that couldn't be penetrated by bullets, unless hit at their weak points. Agile, fast, and armed with claws that were attached to their end of their long arms, they could easily tear through metal and stone with ease. Their jaws could unhinge itself to eat and consume prey far larger than themselves. In addition, they have been seen to be capable of shooting bones through their arms at enemies, making them a highly effective combat unit. We dubbed them, Bone Runners.

And lastly, Walkers, giant mounds of flesh that stood at a height of over 20 meters. These fellers are covered from head to in tentacles and have eyes all over their bodies. When they see an enemy, they scream attracting others of their kind towards them. Their primary defense lies in their tentacles, as they have been noted to be able to stretch to a distance of 50 meters. Everything can damage them, yet it's not a matter of it's armor, but if our weapons can damage it enough to reduce both the tentacle masses from regenerating, and the main bodies own regeneration. It's been sighted that these guys can regenerate from a millisecond of taking damage, and has been one of the toughest foes we've come across. Although, only a handful have been sighted over the years since they've come to Earth.

Now for the rundown of what has happened to Earth during the war, and after. Every country had taken a hit, as the aliens landed destruction and chaos would quickly follow suit. The first to fall was the Asian coalition, as a majority of the countries were wiped out, with only Vietnam fighting to the bitter end for three months. Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan did not involve themselves in the fight, and instead created their own alliances, with Korea and Taiwan teaming up, and Japan, and China doing their own separate things.

China did make a small coalition with Russia and the Middle Eastern countries for a short period of time before they too collapsed, after holding out for eight months. The Anzacs didn't fair any better as the fell within five months of the landings. A majority of the European nations banded together to create the European federation and face off against the oncoming threat. But they too couldn't win out against the enemy, despite having the largest population on Earth, managing to hold out for a year and a half.

In the end, the Americans and Canadians created an official alliance, and managed to hold out for a shocking amount of time, pushing close to almost two years, before the creatures had, had enough, and crashed one of their ships onto the continent. The South Americans almost held out for a year before the creatures combined together and launched simultaneous attacks all across South America.

Thus came out the end of the world. The population of 16 billion, was reduced to a billion, and humanity was forced to go into hiding. As we hid and recreated society and nations in the cracks and dust, we experimented, and found that some humans had gained magical abilities when injecting tiny amounts of the creatures blood into them. It caused them to have heightened senses, stronger dexterity, durable bones structures, heightened reflexes, and increased strength. With this new breakthrough, the pockets of humanity turned to weapons that they had, some even resorting to cold weapons and managed to carve out small sections of safety within their countries.

But these Awakeners, these soldiers, in exchange for this power, had to constantly fight to not succumb to a blood rage as they call it, as they would feel a sense of bloodlust wash over them the longer they fought. Serums and the like were created, but for how long they would last is unknown.

With the help of these Awakeners though, countries started to prop themselves back up, with some creating cities and such that were inhabitable again for their people. Other people took the opportunity and created their own nations within the country. An example is that the Californian government had propped itself back up, and brought Los Angeles back from ruins, to a thriving city. Lots of people didn't want to side with the government and so to the north, an independent city rose, run and protected by a large group called the Dessert Runners, and to the south, another smaller city had risen, but were run by a strict government called the Republic of Iron.

This practice was common all over the world, as the remnants of society climbed back out to start anew, thus begins the new world. Where everyone has the dream of being the one in power, restarting the aged old civil wars.

The funny thing though is that over the couple of years of conflict, no one has seen the rest of the alien fleet, nor does anyone know where they keep coming from. All we know is that the alien fleet can only be labelled as missing at the moment, and has yet to reemerge, giving us some breathing room.

I just hope that we can rebuild after all this is over.
