Chapter XIII: [The City of The Immense, Pt.3]

- ...... I don't feel like visiting on my own, uuugh…

Sahar let out a sigh as he lowered his head. He was sitting on a wooden bench in an alleyway that nobody seemed to be using. A woman had passed by with her child, but that was the end of it. As the city was still lulled by shadows, it was more or less impossible to guess the time. A few rays of light could be seen through Imäa's leaves, but that was hardly enough. Creel and Azgoria had left less than ten minutes earlier, so he knew he had plenty of time to get back, but when would he know what time to leave...?

- If worst comes to worst, I'll get to the hotel earlier than planned and find something to amuse myself... thought the boy, looking up at the sky.

The leaves must have dominated the clouds, so Sahar assumed it was possible to have rain in this city. It was still unsettling: Sahar still couldn't believe it.

It was something he couldn't consider anything but impossible.

That was the work of magic... Sahar's eyes lit up as he thought of the powers of this World. Even though he was devoid of them, he couldn't wait to discover their variety! Ice statues, hands of fire, gravitational powers... and there was more to come! He was going to have to find the most original powers possible! Maybe he'd find some that didn't even exist in novels and manga?! Powers... surpassing the originality of—

- Hey..." a person shyly called out to her left. Sahar turned towards the source of the voice.

A girl.

Her age was indeterminable, but she had to be young. Her light apple-green hair reached below her buttocks and swayed in the breeze. Sahar stared at her, as if hypnotized by her physique. Her eyes... were light. Her left eye flashed a blood-red that could easily make one feel uncomfortable, worse than Nyara's, while her right eye was adorned with a magnificent golden yellow. Sahar found her very pretty, and the fact that she blushed faintly only added points to the "cute" category. The girl seemed to be having trouble looking at the boy in front of her, embarrassed. Sahar didn't know what to say. What did she want...? In any case, he wanted to get to know her better. She was so beautiful... so…

- Cute…

She had a small smile on her lips that softened her already harmonious face.

- Can I sit... next to you?

She looked away as she asked him this question.

- She's really shy... What does she want? Just to sit down? Or just—

Sahar nodded. He mustn't think such stupid things...! He didn't want to start being stupid again, and yet he almost made the same mistake. People can't change at the snap of a finger, he knew... but he had to do everything he could to get rid of this bad habit. Girls weren't romance targets. He knew that very well and had never really seen them like that... unless you took yesterday into consideration.

- Uh... Y-Yes.

He moved a few inches to let her sit beside him. She smiled more intensely, her cheeks still tinged red. She bent down and thanked him before settling down on the bench. The girl looked ahead, silent, as was Sahar. He wanted to start a discussion with her, but how could he do that? Should he talk about the weather? Talking about Imäa... or even saying he was new to Provinäh? He didn't feel like remaining silent and saying nothing... He watched her stealthily. Her face was marked with red paint, rather different from Nyara's, but the color was almost the same. Two earrings dangled from her ears: a chain holding... something. Her garment was snow-white and stopped at the shoulders, leaving her arms bare. She wore bracelets on her wrists and a light grey skirt. She wore dark black stockings that probably ran from her feet to the end of her thighs. Last but not least, she wore a bright blood-red "crown" on her head. In the middle of the crown was an object that looked like an eye surrounded by a golden yellow... It looked like real gold, though. Sahar found the girl very stylish as well as very pretty. Feeling she was being watched, she turned her eyes to the boy, who looked away with a sharp, neck-breaking glance. She smiled a little before looking up at the sky.

- Imäa... really is a strange tree.

Sahar turned to her, his mouth half-open. Sahar was ashamed of himself, but he couldn't help it if he, too, was rather shy. He looked up at the sky and nodded.

- That's right…

She kept her smile and didn't move her head a muscle, her eyes still riveted on something Sahar couldn't see.

- I wonder why... it was created.

The boy was asking himself the same question, but not knowing the context in which the huge tree had been made, he couldn't even theorize. She looked down.

- There's no reason to do this, yet one of them created it.

- One... of them...?

Sahar didn't know what the girl was talking about. Perhaps she could give him some background information? The girl seemed a little surprised that he didn't know what she was talking about, but her astonishment quickly faded.

- Nothing, I'm just thinking out loud. I-I-I didn't mean to intrude.

She scratched her hair and apologized again. He nodded.

- N-No, I like to talk…

- Ah, perfect…

She seemed happy to hear this. The boy let out a small laugh at the same time as the girl, before silence reigned again. It took a few seconds before Sahar managed to speak again.

- You... What's your name?

It was a rather direct question, but he was keen to know her first name. She continued to smile at him.

- My name's Tornado, what's yours?

- Tornado…

It was an unusual name, but Sahar loved it all the same. He wished he had a name like that!

- My name is Sahar, personally!

She smiles at him.

- Nice to meet you, Sahar. Where are you from?

The boy, who had a calm look on his face, took on a less relaxed air.

Should he lie? Did he have to tell her, too, that he had just come from the other continent...? Sahar didn't feel like lying. He had no choice, of course: he couldn't say he was from another world, people would think he was crazy. However, on the other hand, he did feel like testing... What if he told her the truth? Either she'd think he was crazy, or she'd laugh, as if he'd just told a joke, at which point he'd…

He couldn't say that. He couldn't... Besides, what was he going to do, if she became his friend...?! If she met Nyara and they, too, became friends...?!!! They were going to have two different versions of his ori—

- You're not from another world, are you?

Sahar stopped and looked up at her, eyes wide open. Mouth agape, a bead of sweat fell from her forehead. The boy stared at the girl in awe, while she smiled, a semi-interrogative look on her face. There was nothing threatening about her and she didn't seem to want to kill anyone, but Sahar... was afraid of her. Tornado's eyes fixed on the boy.

Sahar didn't know what to say.*****************************************

The man moved forward without looking back. He was missing ‘time’. He had to get back to his brother without delay. The cobblestones on which he walked increased in intensity as he walked. He didn't even look up at the beautiful sky in which Etholys was shining at its brightest, all to warm humans and nature alike. The man didn't want to waste any time; he didn't like being late. What's more, if he didn't make it on time, his brother would say, "Hey, Collin, don't we know how to get there on time? He neither wanted nor needed to be late. And yet…

He stopped and turned.

A fist came at him at full speed.

He avoided it with ease and found himself on the curb. He looked at the man with the blood-red eyes. His gaze was menacing... as if he wanted to kill the target in his sights. As if he had a thirst for blood.

- ...... Disgusting.

Collin said nothing more. He clasped his hands together and pulled them apart, revealing a unique-looking golden stick between them. The enemy didn't wait for his target to finish his magic trick: he attacked again with his fists.

- ....... I don't have the time.

The man forced himself to take the stick in his hands and dodged the attack by leaping into the air. The bloody eyed enemy smiled. In the air, his target had no chance of escaping this next blow! He lunged as fast as he could... but not at his target.

But where he was about to fall.

Collin squinted. Unfortunately, his opponent didn't seem to be the worst of idiots. Nevertheless...... Just as the enemy was certain he had anticipated his target's movements, the latter disappeared. He opened his eyes wide and turned his gaze in all directions. He couldn't let himself be impressed. He had something to do: kill Collin.

- Sorry, sorry sir!

The red-eyed man spun around and faced Collin.

But he didn't have time to reply before he caught his fist in the face and flew off into the distance.

Collin sighed, the stick still in his left hand. He watched his opponent ricochet off the cobblestones before getting to his feet. He wiped his lower lip and smiled.

- Kill. You. Collin. Die.

- And why kill me? I must join my brother.

Collin pointed behind him. He didn't have time to mess around with a guy like that. He just wanted to get where he was going as quickly as possible. Still, he was intrigued. He wanted to know the reason for this surprise attack. The enemy charged at Collin again at lightning speed. The man managed to dodge his punches with ease, but…

He couldn't dodge the rock that smashed into his head.

Collin fell to the ground and rolled away, motionless. The red-eyed man stared at the target's corpse. In any case, he would have liked to say it was a corpse, but Collin couldn't be that... weak. It was true that the rock that had just been thrown was very big and heavy, but the red-eyed man didn't think it could kill Collin.

And he was right.

The man stood up, holding his head.

- Tsk... you suck.

He opened his right eye and stared at his enemy. What did he...? The attacker moved into attack position and the earth shook. Chunks of rock, cobblestones and bits of house walls began to detach themselves from their original positions and flew towards the man. Collin kept the stick in his hand, ready to use it if necessary. This man... didn't seem a real threat, but he didn't have time to play games. He didn't have time to fight. He turned on his heel and left the man to play on his own. The latter blinked in astonishment.

- You... Leave?

- Me no have time fight with you, me find brother.

Collin kept going, as if nothing had happened, but eventually took two steps to the left and avoided the huge boulder. He sighed and turned around. He dodged the physical blows again, but like the first time, he wasn't careful enough: one of his opponent's rocky attacks smashed into his leg. He fell back, gritting his teeth, and gripped the object in his hand tighter. The man was about to attack him with all his might when Collin realized he had no choice but to fight. He blocked the attack with his right arm, but he had underestimated his enemy once again: the man didn't want to hit him, he was just a decoy. He hit the ground below and created a pillar that sent Collin flying into the air. He didn't have time to think about anything as boulders and blocks of cobblestones and bricks rained down on him all at once. He was in for a serious fight. The red-eyed man stared down at him, both feet on the ground. Collin managed to dodge everything with his agility and fell back to the ground, making the same move as before: he "teleported" further away, avoiding the man's attack. The latter lowered his head slightly, eyes still riveted on his target.

- You. Dying. You. Not. Beat. Really.

- I'm going to fight, I have to.

Collin wasn't in the mood for fun. More to the point, he didn't have TIME. He raised his left arm into the air, the object still in his hand. The stick aimed at the sky, reflecting Etholys' rays. The man didn't want to give Etholys time to do anything, so he again created rocks made of cobblestones and bricks, and earth beneath him. However......

All his attacks disintegrated against an invisible barrier. None of the rocks managed to hit their target. Collin, still standing, kept his arm raised, his eyes riveted on his enemy. Did he really think he'd let himself be attacked...? It wasn't all he had to worry about. His brother was waiting for him, waiting... for him. The object in Collin's hand lit up. The pressure around them began to change. The air grew heavier. The earth shook. The sky shook. Houses shuddered with fear. The man with the red eyes opened them wide, his irises sparkling with an emotion he never wanted to feel a second time. Collin raised his head and looked up at the sky, which took on a black hue. He hadn't...

...no time...

... to play.

The object in his hands began to glow so brightly that almost nothing could be seen: everything was far too bright. The red-eyed man closed his eyes, unable to do anything. Even moving was too difficult. He was... unable to move a single muscle. He was going to—

- SANKA—Collin shouted into the darkness that surrounded him. No one could see them but him. All he had to do was scream, and the man in front of him wouldn't survive.

But...

His fist suddenly stopped in front of something. The ground beneath them shattered with an eardrum shattering noise. Debris flew everywhere, smashing into houses and shattering surrounding windows. The trees in the forest shook from the violence of Collin's punch, and the clouds above them were pierced. The sky regained its azure hue and the air around them gradually calmed down.

However.

Collin's eyes were so open they could fall out, and he was holding his breath. His irises trembled in their sockets and all his senses were on full alert. His heart could have stopped, the shock had been so brutal. He hadn't been hurt or hit, nothing had been done to him.

But the pressure had been so powerful that they could have put ten tons over his head and he would have been in a better state.

We could have confronted him with death itself and he would have been less afraid.

Collin gritted his teeth and shouted at the top of his voice.

- I TOLD YOU TO STOP DOING THAT!!!!!!

In front of him was a simple girl. There was no hostility in her eyes. She inspired neither fear, nor fright, nor malice. She just looked like a totally normal grown-up girl. She sighed and turned away to his brother.

- Shall wait for you. Stop playing.

- I WASN'T PLAYING, I WAS ATTACKED!!!!

- Ah, why?

The girl looked at her brother with calm, gentle eyes. Her cute, questioning expression calmed Collin. He scratched his hair and turned to his enemy.

To the corpse of his enemy.

- I was going to ask him after the attack, but it looks like he's dead…

- I wonder why.

Collin clenched his fist and punched his sister, shouting "IDIOT".

- HOW DO I know what he wanted from me, now!!!!

She looked at him with a puppy-dog expression, tears in her eyes. Collin sighed.

- Leave it. If I'm attacked again, I'll make sure I learn more.

She smiles.

- We don't have time, we have to go see Shall!!! I knew something was wrong, you're not the type to show up late!!!

- I wish I hadn't gotten in trouble on the way, urrrgh. Sorry, Star.

They left the corpse behind and ignored the monstrous damage they had left behind. They walked towards where their brother was waiting. Normal, after all…

They didn't have the time.

*****************************************

Sahar still couldn't move in front of the apple-green haired girl. He didn't know what to say and didn't dare do anything. Did she know? Sahar... Had his secret been revealed in such a short time?! How... how could anyone know he was from another world? Was this... normal? Maybe people knew there were many worlds?

- Perhaps it's not unknown, the fact that there are many worlds... thought the boy. If that's the case, then I can confess everything to Nyara for as long as our relationship remains open and has not deepened...!!!

It would ease Sahar's conscience if he could stop lying. He wanted to live with them without lying to them about himself every time. He didn't like that. If he had the chance to tell them the truth, then he'd take it.

Even so. He hesitated.

Maybe she was just making fun of him and joking. Maybe it was a common joke here in Duzmog. Maybe she'd just gotten nervous and blurted something out.

- Maybe I'm overthinking things.

Sahar decided. He was going to tell her it was true. That he really was from another world. Either she'd say it seriously and then he wouldn't have to lie anymore, or she'd be joking and Sahar would say he was from the other continent, as he'd told the others. He didn't want to do such a thing, but if he made up more than one lie, he'd get lost in it and he couldn't afford that. The smiling girl in front of him opened her mouth at the same time as Sahar.

- Exa—

Sahar was cut off.

- I'm so sorry! I was joking, I was joking! I-I didn't know what to say, so…

She apologized, clasping her hands together. Sahar, who noticed that he'd been thinking all this time for nothing, smiled too.

- No worries. I've just a—

- AAAH!!!

Sahar was about to say he was from the other continent when she screamed and stood up. She didn't seem scared or anything, just panicked. The girl... looked up at the sky. She looked at the boy again and, her cheeks flushed, apologized again.

- I forgot I have something to do!! she says. I want to talk to you more, so... Huuuuh…

She looked stressed. Sahar wanted to tell him to calm down, but she raised a finger and moved closer to him, making him blush in turn.

- I'll see you back here tomorrow, around eight o'clock, okay?

Sahar nodded quickly, making the girl smile. She ran to the left, from where she had arrived, and waved goodbye. Sahar did the same, but much more gently, confused. He sighed and lowered his head.

- At least she wants to see me again, hehe…

Sahar was glad she'd suggested they meet again. He couldn't forget: tomorrow, eight o'clock, here. Before going back to the hotel, he was going to make sure he remembered where he was and how to get there. It wasn't that far, so it should be all right! He stood up and promised himself he'd make friends with that Tornado! He looked around, a big smile on his face, before blinking repeatedly.

- Here…

He let out a nervous laugh.

- How do I get back to the hotel?

He'd forgotten the way.
