Zade blinked his eyes fervently, as he regained consciousness. A deafening silence hung around him, in a way that felt instinctually wrong. His whole body convulsed. It felt as if he had been taken apart and then put back together atom by atom. Then a grating and detached voice rang out in his head....

"Zod", he said, tasting the word on his mouth. The utterance caused a mad surge of hemoptysis, and he began to have mad wheezing coughs, spitting out blood and spittle with every movement. Zod groaned loudly as his body sustained another round of convulsions.

His eyelids cracked open,..,blurred. He lay on the ground in a messy heap of blood, bounded by walls of moist, dark and uneven stone. Black water trickled down from somewhere above. He got up shakily and stumbled a few steps forward in the only open direction, forward. His eyes came into focus, and he looked around him.

He looked to be in a cavernous structure, water dripped down from pointed stones on the ceiling. He ran his hand over the wall, embedded in which were dull amethysts. Dark, low stalactites hung from above. He sat at the top of curved black steps, a narrow platform branched forward at their end. They led to a wide opening, perfectly circular. It was the only area he could make out clearly. The circle was surrounded by a veil of pulsing darkness, as if trying to escape. On entering the circle, he realized it was rather a dome. The rounded dome, looked to be made of the same material as they walls surrounding him, some type of Melanite.
