Intermezzo

Four men were seated in a room around a small round table. The chairs were cushioned and fashioned from obviously expensive wood, reflecting the quality of the fine furniture in the rest of the room. The floor, walls and ceiling of the room was coated by a silvery transparent substance, but the men weren’t paying any attention to the substance.

The man with long grey hair and a short, well kept grey beard spoke first.

“So what are all your thoughts about this, Novis Kardia person?”

“I’m almost certain he was summoned by that witch.”

The man who answered was the other grey haired man in the room. His face was shaven clean and his hair was short. Were it not for his grey hair, he wouldn’t have looked much older than the black haired man seated next to him. His robes indicate him as an important religious figure.

He continued speaking.

“He almost perfectly fits the bill of every other summon we have seen so far.”

“Yet, we have not seen a move that would suggest he had contact with her.”

The reply came from the third man, no older than his thirties, wearing simple clothing in sharp contrast to the other three. His medium length brown hair was slicked back over his head and, behind his glasses, he possessed sharp, intelligent eyes.

The priestly figure retorted.

“But It could very well be a sleeper operation. Especially since her previous attempts didn’t work out for that witch.”

“Ha, as if she’d have the brains to think of that. Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if the rumour was actually true. Especially since the Great Upheaval, a lot of weird things have been happening.”

“Tiff, Frudor, please, I’d like to hear Dorick’s opinion too.”

“Yes, my liege”

“Sorry, Julius”

The three men then looked towards the fourth, who had been silent up to this point. The man had a black crew cut and sported a bushy black goatee. He looked up with a thoughtful expression.

“Why not recruit him to the Royal Guard? I can watch over him personally, and we may even be able to get him to work for us. If he is indeed able to raise his stats above his limit, that would be a valuable asset to us, no?”
