ZEN, THE GRAND KING
To You, Who Have Lost Everything

To You, Who Have Lost Everything

May 24, 2023. everything that happened on that day still leave a deep scar on my mind. I still remember everything as if it had just happened yesterday. I was sitting among the ruins of the city. The heat that creeping through my skin because of the burning buildings around me, the smell of blood that pierced my nose, the remains of my family and friends, my throat that stung because I scream too much, and my surrounding scenery that was filled with the flames of war from being who called themselves “DOMINION”, The Emissary of Gods.

On that day, the dominions fought each other in front of us humans, without the faintest concern for our fate. The dominion, they looked like us humans, but they had a pair of wings, and the armor they wore was like armor that looked stronger than iron, perhaps from mithril, armor that looked like the medieval armor described in the illustration book. Some of them also carried swords and shields, some also used spears. They used their magic and weapons to kill each other, but their attacks also brought damage to us humans. They destroyed and burned everything that stood in their way. Some of them also slaughtered us simply because we were of a lower race than them.

I didn't know why they were at war with each other, but one thing was for sure, their war had burned down the city that I lived in, and had killed my family and friends. It was supposed to be a happy day for me, my graduation day and also my birthday, but everything became a tragedy because of their arrival. I, was unable to do anything on that day, all I could do was sit down and scream in tears when I saw the remains of my family before my eyes. My body was becoming limp, I thought why didn't I just die with them? Why am I the only one who survived? These thoughts haunt me even today. Until one of the dominions came to me, pointing his spear right at my throat, at that moment I thought I would finally be free from this hell. I could hear the dominion saying something, but I couldn't understand it, I guess it was their language, different from ours.

"Finally, I can see you again, mama, papa, sister, everyone. I'm sorry I kept you all waiting"

I said that as I sat looking up at the sky, thinking that I would finally meet my end, then I closed my eyes, ready to face my death, but the death never arrived. The dominion's spear never reached my throat, let alone pierced it. I opened my eyes; all I saw was a woman standing in front of me. She was not very tall, perhaps lower than me, her hair long and silver, her eyes bright gold. She tried to talk to me, but gave up after a while. Not long after that she tried to grab my head, I tried to resist but failed, soon after that I felt something entering my mind.

“Can you understand me now, boy?”

The woman said so while looking at her surroundings.

"Huh? What did you just do? Who are you? You... are you one of them?"

I tried to talk to her, the only thing I could understand was that this woman wasn't human, she must have just used magic or something so that I could understand her language. The language she speaks is the same as that of the dominions.

"Yes, but also no. I am a Sovereign, perhaps you know me better as a god. Those who are fighting are subordinates of another Sovereign. I didn't expect to find a human survivor in the middle of a war like this. Sorry, but perhaps you should come with me boy, what's your name?"

The woman grabbed my hand and tried to take me somewhere else, I could only run after her reluctantly.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

"Akinobu... Akimichi. Where are you taking me? Who are you? Are you going to hand me to them to be killed?"

After successfully running away and finding a safe place among the ruins, I tried to calm down, but everything happened so fast.

"Calm down Akinobu, as I said earlier, I am the sovereign, you can call me Arte, are you angry with those who have tried to kill you? Destroyed your city? Do you want revenge?"

Arte stopped and asked me all those things.

"I... don't know, is there even any point in fighting back? I'm just a human, and all my family and people I knew are gone, there's no point in me staying alive."

I answered Artes' question with a bow, not knowing what else to do. However, I could feel the anger inside me. Why me? Why is everything like this? What did I do wrong to get all this. Arte just looked at me after hearing my answer

"It's indeed impossible for humans to win against the sovereign, but, what if I told you that you might have a chance against them? Even though you are only human right now, I can give you the power to fight against the sovereigns."

I was stunned at Arte's words, her face was so confident in her words, but me? A mere mortal? Why would he want to give power to a being with a caste far below him?

"Why do you want to help me? Wouldn't it be better if you gave your power to your underlings instead of giving it to a puny mortal like me?".

I questioned Arte's decision, but all I saw was her smile and her growing confidence

"That may be true, but, wouldn't it be interesting if I took a mortal to bring down another sovereign? Imagine what the other sovereigns would say, a black-haired human with a short stature and far below the dominions, even the sovereigns, hunting down the sovereigns for revenge, while you get your revenge, my throne among the other sovereigns would also be safe, how is it boy?"

Arte's confidence grew, her desire to give me power and her desire to take the throne among the sovereigns grew. Seeing her smile and her confidence in front of me made me make up my mind.

"I don't know if what you said is the truth or a lie, but, if there is a way that can give me the power to make those who have taken everything away from me tormented, I will do whatever it takes to get it, and I'm not that short, I'm 160cm tall stupid woman."

I answered firmly while looking back at Arte's eyes. Arte smiled widely after hearing my answer.

"AHAHAHAHAHA, I like your answer boy, we have the same goal, my goal is to win this war, I will give you strength and train you how to defeat them, in return you will follow what I say, do you agree to my conditions?".

Arte held out her hand, waiting for my answer. I don't care who wins this war, nor do I care about what happens afterwards, all I want is to make whoever started this war suffer. My mind was made up, I would follow Arte.

"Alright, I agree, but I can't promise that I'll be of any use to you, Arte."

I replied as I held out my hand and shook Arte's hand. I didn't know what was waiting ahead, but as long as my goal was achieved, I would follow whatever Arte asked.

On that day, I felt like the wheels of fate were starting to start turning again, my meeting with Arte, the agreement we made, everything happened quickly. I don't know what will happen in the future, but I will continue to move forward to achieve my goal, to give those who started this war the same suffering they gave me.
