The fix

It has taken me the better part of an hour to get my legs beneath me again. Y'eula softly humming but a few strides from me. Eyes closed and sat on a rock suspended on air, wind cascading around her. She motions me closer with a hand gesture not unlike that I had used to dismiss my men before entering the corridors of the hall of law. The memory leaps up starting me for a breath. I shake it off and with another rise of her hand a second stone of equal proportions to her own breaks free of the dirt. So I join her in place as she descends back to terra.

"Were ye watchin?" she asks sharply. I respond in the affirmative with a cut off half nod, as in Master's usual fashion, she immediately continues.

"So what did ye see?"

"Well, you were floating" I answer.

"agh" Y'eula sighs "ye are dence aren't ye?" I frown. "Ok s'pose that wasn't exact an fair like" she chuckles with a smile. "when ye were lyin' over there what did ye see?"

"I saw lights" I attempt again

"Na" she interjects with such a haste and eagerness, she must have been waiting to pounce on the word; as a cat does a mouse. I rephrase

"Magic" she motions for me to continue, "I could see the magic inside things" I finish

"not half bad. I say it isn't inside it's of, and it's not magic really, It's life. So the life o' things. But, to keep it slick like, we should stick with calling it magic ye?" It is a question asked in rhetoric, I know this of course, so I wait.

"Magic sight is important. So I will teach ye first this, how to hold this, how to use this. It's the base of everythin', See it, tune to it, let it flow through you. My master would go on shouting about those whorefart Magi and their bending of life often. They twist it, changing it and then they use it up. This is a poor form of magic, harming the world around them." She responds to the accumulating frown on my forehead, with a cock of her head. "I'm an echo, they're a second shout" she states quite profoundly. However, this statement bares no weight on my understanding at all, and it is clearly reflected on my face as I join her placing my head at a jointy angle. Without resolving the furrows in my brow of course. "agh! Ye feel it and ye let it in. Now close ye eyes, and see me without openin' em" she finishes with no small amount assertion. I comply, closing my eyes and waiting to see the lights again, to see the magic of things. After a few moments of nothing happening I tentatively start to raise the lid of my left eye. Peering through my lashes, I see her, eyes closed and shaking her head wearing a mask of disappointment. She did say that she can use the magic sight always, I guess there is my proof. Re-closing my eye I decide to take a more serious approach by breathing deeply and trying to relax my mind, nothing, yet still I wait. Y'eula whispers to me in this moment "remember the pain, where are the things that I burned into you" Just then, just like that, it happens. It is like being sat out on a moonless night and in the next instance the stars have fallen from the sky to sit with me. I can not restrain myself but look around to the separate flows of lights dancing around each other in a delicate ballet. Much tamer than my last experience, It is a beautiful sight to behold. Still dizzying of course, make no mistake, but beautiful non the less. Turning my head back I see a concentration in my master so dence it simply is a vibrant vibrating solid mass of mana.

"I can see you" I state. "Well, the magic of you at any rate" I speedily correct myself before Y'eula has an opening to take, as I know she most avidly would.

"Good, good, now ye need to practice exactly that. When you can do that with yer eyes open we are glowing. I want you to practice this for now. Use it, hold it, let go.. And do it again. Watch me as you do. Each time you will hold it longer yes, we've got a day at most here for you to get this. Then we move again and the next town is three days from here. You'll be able to use magic by then or my interest in you will've left. Now back up." Y'eula commands with another dismissive wave of her hand, as the rock on which I am rested simultaneously moves away from her. This all seems insane, how did I get here. I, a kings guard of one of the great houses, sat in a field learning magic from a commoner. I stifle down a laugh as I think these thoughts. Well I guess I should endeavour to learn, if the expression on my master's face is anything to go by. So, once again I focus on the magic sight. I watch in utter awesome wonder as Y'eula, on her rock, begins again to climb to the air. Lights, no, magic are drawn to her from all things, spiraling round her in a helical structure. Now every time my magic sight slips, I am in a rush, I use all manner of haste to resume the ability so I can recommence to watch the gorgeous display of balance and power. Each time I refocus the skill my sight is clearer, less glare is emitted from the magic and I am able to hold it longer, stare deeper. Furthermore each time I use it I gain an inherent understand of what I am seeing, not total and complete by any measure. But, small specks of knowledge that most assuredly, I can tell, will affix to make up a whole knowing; a whole perception.
