Hey Guys I hope you enjoy this. I'm up for any suggestion or advice. This is my first attempt at writing something of this nature.
If anyone is worried about the level of vocabulary and such, it will improve as Danny does.

A dark cloud covered the small town of Bellaire, right before the rain started to pour from the heavens. The image of a man and a child barely to his hip could be seen overlooking a grave. The father trying to find the resolve to make the hard decisions to give his son the best he could get.
Dad “Danny, say goodbye to mommy. We will visit again.”
The child, Beach blonde hair and piercing green eyes with signs on freckles, registered what was said and looked to his father and said okay. Danny ran up and hugged the grave marker and set down a picture. He then turned and left with his dad. The grave they were visiting was Rachel Lispen’s, she was Danny’s mother. She died in a large car accident on a rainy night. She lost control of the wheel, she ended up going head first into a fuel tanker that was coming from the opposite direction.
The picture that Danny had put down was the family picture. His teacher had asked the class to draw of their family. Giving one last look Evan: Tall, dirty blonde hair, with the same green eyes as his son but without the blissful innocence that he wished he could have. As they were leaving Danny’s picture got picked up by the wind and sailed high in the sky. Danny seeing this started to cry, he had worked very hard on that. The other kids in his class made fun of him when they found out he didn’t know what his mother looked like. Seeing this Evan got down on one knee and look him straight in the eyes.
Dad” Danny mommy wouldn’t want to see you cry, and god took your picture to mommy so he could show her what a great job you did.”
Trying, but unsuccessfully, Danny tried to sniff back the tears so mommy wouldn’t be sad.
After getting Danny back in the car Evan drove back home. Even a year after her death, and he still was in a slump. His best friend all the way from high school years to their college years, she was always the one to get them to go out and do things. His idea of a good night was just to be home in the same room as her, with her curly shoulder length hair dazzling royal blue eyes.
What really caught and kept his attention the most was her kind disposition and sense of humor. Even his stale and more than often redundant punch lines got her chuckling. Now he could no longer feel the warmth around the house that her soul radiated.
He always replays that night, if only he could have better convinced to not leave. Every time he thinks of that night he knows nothing would have changed. This makes him feel even more useless.
They received a call from close friends of theirs saying their kids were missing and the rain started up as a raging monsoon. No amount of begging was stopping her from going to help. On her way there, she got into the accident.

As he made his way home he noticed his son in the back sound asleep. He made a silent whispering promise to himself,
Dad- I will give you everything you need, you will be happy and live life to the fullest. That’s the least I can do for you in her place.”
He knew as the times kept changing his skills and knowledge in computer analyses and mechanical engineer could land him a decent job, but it would not provide for Danny the way he wanted. Through job searching he found nothing that jump out at him.
Feeling defeated he called his dad. They weren’t on the best of terms. His dad was a professor at UCLA in architectural, chemical, and electrical engineering. He had told his son to not settle for a mere master’s degree and that if he wanted everything life had to offer, he need more education.
Feelings of wanting to settle down with Rachel he dropped out to start a family. His dad saw it as him quitting when things got hard for him. He did show up for the funeral, where they hashed things out and mostly apologized for everything. Some things pride won’t give way to. He pulled out his phone and dialed in his father’s number.
Gramps - Hello, how are you doing tonight?
Dad - Hi dad, I was actually looking for advice if you got some time.
Gramps - That’s strange, you asking me for advice. Must be important. I’m all ears.
Dad - I’ll let that go for this time, but I’m at a cross roads here dad. I’m trying to find something that will be able to provide enough for Danny, so that he can do whenever he wants. At the moment I can get a decent job like the one I have now, but this is mostly paycheck to paycheck. We are fine this way but I’m wanting to give the world to my son but I’m struggling.
Nearly in tears, he finally let off his chest what he’s been fighting internally with the past year
Gramps - I figured this would come up eventually. Hell, I was the same when your mother passes. I will tell you the advice I was given at the time. If you can not find that position or job that meets your needs, then make the job or position. The real question you need to ask yourself is what you are wanting to do yourself.
Taking a moment a silence to let in sink in, he starts thinking about what he was or still is passionate about. And finally it struck him. Virtual Reality, he had seen a demonstration a tech expo, that at the time was just a helmet. He had always had an idea for a virtual reality. The only thing he needed was the skills and knowledge to make it happen. Knowing what he needed to do. He asked one more question.
Dad - hey I need to go back to school for the knowledge to do what I am thinking. Would you be willing to spend some time with your grandson?
His dad was wanting to spend time with him in fact for a while now.
Gramps - Sure, while we hang out I can teach him stuff that he’s
interested in. We will have a great time.
