Yanagawa's unsolved mysteries

Yanagawa's unsolved mysteries

It's been more than 10 years since my father's death. I felt like I had a gap in my heart when it happened. My mom died after I was born out of unknown reasons. A while ago, I turned 18 so the old house that my dad owned in Yanagawa was mine. I don't want to live there, it only reminds me of dad.

Although the house is old, I could find some useful things there that I could sell at some pawnshop. Where I live now isn't too far. I got into my car and started making my way to my dad's house.

As I entered the city everything seemed weird. Nobody was walking on the tiny streets of the town. As I got deeper into the town, the atmosphere stood the same. I decided to stop creeping myself out and hurry. It's not like I would've lived there anyways.

I got on the street where my old house was. Memories struck me, Katashi's house looked the same. He was a good friend of mine until he disappeared along with his parents. That same day my dad was killed. The police said it was a suicide, I think otherwise. I remember coming back from school, those sirens, people around my house whispering. Everything feels the same every time I try to remember. As of Katashi's family kidnapping, I have no clue what happened,  but one thing is sure, one of them must be alive still.

I stopped my car in front of dad's house. I exited the car and froze in front of the gate. I couldn't bring myself to enter.  It felt like I lived there just yesterday. I told myself that I don't have any time to get emotional. I had to search for anything with value and get my ass out of there.

I breathe in and walked into the old house. I was surprised that the house other than being dirty, it was still intact. I got into my old room and saw a note. It sat there for 10 years, it was like it waited for me to read it.

I started reading the letter slowly. I smirked, as the nostalgia hit me. It was a letter from the girl I liked, Hiyori. I didn't even get to open it. On the day the killing of my father happened, she gave me the note. Turns out she liked me. Was I a ladies man when I was 13?

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

I advanced to the attic, where my dad had his things. It was all dirty in there. It smelled like something died in there.

I started to look for things. I saw a bicycle in there. I remember that my dad was supposed to teach me how to fix it the day he died. I saw nothing worth anything. But, behind the many cardboard boxes was a handle. My first instinct was to pull it.

I noticed it's heaviness and started to pull it harder. Before my eyes, I pulled out a sword. It looked like a traditional sword, studied about those back in elementary.

It looked sharp, so it raised my hopes for a high resell values. It struck me, why the hell did my dad own it.

I stopped putting questions. I got in my car and headed to the nearest pawn shop.

The streets were just as empty, no cars, no people.

The pawnshop was not far, so I arrived fast. I tried to resell the sword but the buyer wanted information about the sword. I couldn't answer as I didn't know where did the sword appear.

I felt down after finding out that I came into the town for no reason.

I decided to take a walk in the nearest forest.  As I entered the forest, many memories struck me. I used to adventure into the forest with my friends, if I remembered correctly, we had a hideout somewhere near the only river. I used my memory to find it. The area didn't change much, the river where we used to skip rocks was the same. I started looking for an old cabin. After a lot of searching, I saw it. Our little place was the same. I slowly entered.

I froze into the doorway, there was a grown adult with a black mask covering his face. He was accompanied by a pit bull. He stared at me and after a few seconds of silence, he pats his dog's head and screams "Go!'

The dog started running towards me. I never ran so fast in my whole life. One thing was clear, that guy did not have good intentions. I had just gotten myself into a lot of shit.

"Shit, this ain't good.". I told myself while running.

The scariest moments of my life happened, I stepped on a rock and fell. The dog was about to jump at me.

I told myself I wouldn't hurt anything but my left depended on my next moves. I slowly took out the old sword I found in dad's attic. I closed my eyes and slashed the dog with it. "I'm sorry.". I remember saying.

As blood fell onto the ground I started to see something strange. I wasn't seeing what was in front of me. I saw a car coming fast towards a dog. The car was getting closer, and closer. As the car was about to hit the animal I snapped.

I fell on my knees, not knowing what the hell happened.
