Chapter 17 - The Unbelievable Rabbit Hole | Lying Through The Teeth

"Lu Feng!? Brat, what is this nonsense!? How can you abandon the name your parents gave you!? And you even dared to adopt a different family name. If not for the Patriarch being heartbroken over your disappearance, he would've skinned you alive if he heard your babble just now!"

After blowing his top off, Li Wei calmed down, he sat on the chair near the window while Lu Feng sat on the bed. They're in Lu Feng's room at the Golden Inn. Unfortunately, when they were entering the hotel, Miss Xinyue who was in the lobby familiarly greeted him with the name "Lu Feng."

As soon as they reappeared in Lu Feng's room, Li Wei blew his top without giving Lu Feng a chance to explain.

"Uncle Wei, calm down. Did you forget that I lost my memories?"

Thinking about it, Li Wei nodded his head, "I forgot... No matter, once we announce that the Clan's young master is alive and well, everyone will know you by your real name, Baihu Ming."

Shaking his head, Lu Feng began to rapidly weave a story in his mind. "That's not possible Uncle Wei."

"What the..." Before Li Wei blew his top again, he was cut off by Lu Feng.

"Uncle Wei, first listen to me. When I was attacked in the secret realm, I was spit out into an unknown wilderness when the secret realm collapsed. I now know that to be somewhere deep in the Brightmoon forest.

"At that time, I had no idea where I was and when I woke up from my unconscious state, there I was, in the middle of nowhere, no memories, not even my name. The only things I had with me were the storage ring and the clan token, which I had no idea of what it was.

"Due to the injuries, I had my cultivation crippled and I sustained fatal injuries. In my delirious state, I wandered around the forest for a week, with no food and water. Just when I thought I was in my last moments, I saw a golden rabbit.

Li Wei interrupted the story time with a puzzled look, "A golden rabbit?"

Lu Feng glared at Li Wei, "Hssh, don't interrupt the story... Anyway, I saw a golden rabbit. In my delirious hunger, I followed the rabbit to its hole. It was a deep and dark burrow. Not in my right mind I jumped into the rabbit hole

"Lo and behold, the next moment I was in a wonderland. I saw a Buddhist monk sitting on a golden peacock. He exuded a holiness and majesty I have never seen. Exhausted beyond measure, as I was about to breathe my last, the holy monk saved me.

"I later learned that I was in a coma and was cared for two long years. When I woke up, the holy monk introduced himself as the Buddha, seeing as I had no recollection of my name or past, he named me Lu Feng, taught me a cultivation technique, and then advised me to leave the wonderland lest my soul be dissipated.

"Following the golden rabbit once again, I exited the wonderland. I was back in the forest. Deciding to cultivate, I chopped wood and carried water as I practiced the profound technique the holy monk imparted to me.

"After two long years, I finally managed to breakthrough to the Origin level. I then somehow opened the storage ring. I then decided to leave the forest and find civilization. After managing to learn sword flight, I was able to leave the forest."

Li Wei, who was now pacing in the room, nodded his head. "No wonder... No wonder you're able to survive... You must've stumbled upon a Buddha's wonderland. It's rare in a eon.

"Ever since the Great Daoist-Buddhist War, there have been no new Buddhas, most of them have been killed and some were taken away by the top forces. This person must've been a new Buddha or an ancient one who cut off all contact with the world and isolated himself in his wonderland.

"So what... Are you a Buddhist now?"

Lu Feng got up from the bed, clasped his hands behind his back, and walked to the window.

"No, I'm not a Buddhist, but I swore in my given name that I'll defend the vestiges of Buddhism. Lu as in land and Feng as in peak or summit. This shall be my name henceforth. This name is a monument to the life-saving grace I received from the Buddha."

Turning back from the window, Lu Feng looked at Li Wei, who heaved a deep sigh.

'Yeah, beat that! I'll see who'll object to my majestic name and wondrous story.'

Li Wei glanced at Lu Feng, who now stood with a calm demeanor. "No matter, it's indeed the life-saving grace of the Buddha that kept you alive. Though as Daoist practitioners, we never saw eye to eye with the Buddhists, that's a matter of the past, from before I was even born.

"Today, the Mahayana tradition of Buddhism is completely eradicated. The remaining Buddhists number less than a hundred and were only spared because of posterity, and because they followed the Theravada tradition and posed no threat to the Daoist forces as they didn't collect incense power from the mortals."

Lu Feng, of course, knew this from the books he read in the library, nonetheless, the context given by Uncle Wei gave him more information regarding the dynamics of the world.

With folded hands, Li Wei asked Lu Feng about what he did after leaving the forest.

After another tall tale, Li Wei was once again left dazzled.

"A supreme fortuitous encounter! Brat, your luck is no less than a generation's Son of Providence. The Holy Sons and Daughters, and the Saint Sons and Saintesses will all be jealous of your luck."

Lu Feng laughed sheepishly as he added, "Uncle Wei, other than grandfather, I hope you can keep my doings here in the city a secret. Initially, with no memories of my background, I thought of building up an enterprise of my own so that I would have something to depend on.

"Now, even though it might not be anything significant, I would still like to have it as a backup. And I would be able to get the best out of it if people didn't know about my association with the business."

Li Wei showed his agreement with a dismissive hand gesture, "It's a small-time shop, even in the long run, what can it amount to? Fine, I'll inform the Patriarch and convey your request when we get back."

Lu Feng sneered in his heart, 'Small-time shop!? We'll see about that...'

"When do you want to leave for Baihu City?" Li Wei asked as he quenched his thirst with wine from a gourd he took out from his ring, "Your long story has me parched..."

Lu Feng pondered for a moment about his return back to Baihu City. With the memories of his host body recovered, Lu Feng now had an idea about the Baihu Clan and its goings-on.

'I should step it up...'

Drawing plans in his mind for his now seemingly insignificant shop and the Creation tab of the system, Lu Feng decided to stretch his hand shamelessly.

"Uncle Wei, could I borrow some money?"

Without a second thought, Li Wei accepted Lu Feng's request, "Sure, how much do you need?"

Lu Feng replied with a question of his own, "How much do you have?"

Lu Feng who had no shame, had only one thought in his mind.

'What's mine is mine and what's the Clan's is also mine... Being rich is indeed nice'
