This prologue is a little long compared to what I'll do for my numbered chapters so please just bear with this for now.
"Damn-" I said as my hand slipped, leaving only one of my weakened hands to support my tired frame.
"Normal expedition my ass, if I get back I swear I'll never listen to that shady manager ever again." I muttered as I pondered how to get out of this situation I found myself in. In all the years of my career as a spelunker, this was the first time I was seriously concerned for my life.
.
.
It all started when that shady manager told my team and I that, Instead of our planned expedition, we were going to be the first team to explore a cave that had been found only recently by some mountaineer in the Rockies (Rocky Mountains). At first we were all very excited and, like idiots, we all agreed to the change of plan without too much hassle.
An uneventful plane ride, two bus stations, and about 5 hours of hiking later, we found ourselves staring into the darkened entrance to the newly discovered cave. As we always did, we took a short break before starting to check over the equipment and rest up from the long hike. During this break, I found I was a little more nervous than normal and, looking around, I could tell that my team was feeling the jitters as well. Telling myself that it was just because it was a new cave, I stood up to give my team our ritual pep-talk.
"Okay guys, I can tell you're all nervous and I am too, but let's just all stay calm, do what we always do, and follow procedure. We've been spelunking together for almost 5 years now and I can completely count on each and every single one of you. There's no one else that I would like to do this with more than you guys."
The 4 other members of my team all gave me nods of confirmation that they were ready, so we packed up all of our equipment and entered the cave.
It was quite dark inside, but we were prepared with flashlights and headlamps so that wasn't a problem. From the entrance to about 50 meters in it looked pretty average as far as caves go, but we soon came to a large underground chamber that stretched even further into the darkness than our flashlights could penetrate. Letting out gasps of awe and excitement, my team and I slowly crept our way into the center of the chamber, checking for weaknesses in the rock the whole way.
As we slowly walked further and further into the chamber, we found that the rock underfoot was slowly changing from a dark brown to a light blue the further we went. Never having seen this before, I knelt down to take a sample of the rock but I found that It was so solid that my small sample pick couldn't put a single dent in the light blue rock. Setting the sample pick aside, I asked one of my team members to get his larger pick out of his backpack. Taking his pick I felt its weight in my hands and judged that, even if it took a couple of swings, I could probably chip off a small sample of rock to take with me. lining up with where I was hitting before, I swung the pick down to the floor with all of my strength. Upon hitting the stone I felt vibrations run up the pick and into my arms and I dropped the pick from the strength of the reverberations.
Looking at the ground I could see that I had chipped off a small piece of the blue stone so I bent down and picked it up. While bent down, I heard several small crackling sounds coming from the ground and, realizing immediately what was happening, I shouted out "The ground is giving way! Everybody back the way we came!".
While running, I noticed several cracks spreading out along the rocks like spider webs and realized that they were travelling too fast for my team and I to out-run them, shouting at my team to go faster and to drop their gear, I knew that we probably weren't going to get out of this accursed chamber. Suddenly, several holes appeared in the ground and most of my team fell through them, only one teammate and I were left. Running even faster, we managed to get close to the edge of the chamber when I saw a big crack opening up in the floor in front of us. Making a quick decision, I pushed my team member to safety just as the crack opened up, revealing the deepest fissure I had ever seen.
Falling through the crack, I barely managed to grab the edge of the fissure with my hands. I knew that, after running from the center of the chamber, I didn't have the strength to simply pull myself up and over the rock face.
.
.
Hanging from the edge of the fissure with only one arm, I quietly resigned myself to my fate and had almost given up hope when I heard a voice from up above me.
"B-Boss, are you down there?"
Letting out a sigh of relief, I shouted back, "Yeah I'm here, just barely. I'm holding onto the side of this rock face, but my hand is slipping."
Hearing the desperation in my voice, my team member quickly came to my rescue and I felt an arm grab my wrist, pulling me upward.
While my teammate was pulling me upward, I heard an almost windy noise coming from the bottom of the fissure. Getting a little nervous, I looked down but I saw nothing. I turned my head back up, slightly relieved, when I felt a strange suction on my body coming from the fissure!

The suction was so strong that It ripped my arm free of my teammate's hand and I felt myself falling into the fissure. The last thought that passed my mind was…
"Wait- WHAT!"

"Well, are you just gonna sit there?"
I opened my eyes and immediately closed them again because of the brightness.
"Hey, you, don't just sit there for eternity. It's finally time for your second chance."
I opened my eyes again and was met with the sight of a young boy, who looked to be about 10-12 years old, standing right in front of me with his arms crossed and a petulant look on his face.
"Hey brat, can't you see I'm resting here? leave me alone." I groaned
"What! Brat! Youu…. What do you mean leave you alone? I try to give you your second life and you just brush me off? That's gratitude for you." Huffs the little boy.
"Huh? Second life? what are you talking about?" I say while staring quizzically at the boy.
"Hoho, now I've got your attention, don't I? Listen, I'm only going to say this once because I'm really busy, OK? Now, everyone under this domain, which is about 10,000 worlds, is given two lives. You have already lost your first one and now I'm about to give you your second and last one, be grateful." Explains the mysterious boy.
"How do I know that you're telling me the truth? I could be in a coma or something and this could be all just a weird dream." I asked the boy "You can't expect me to be stupid enough to just believe whatever some random boy tells me."
"Hmm… You do have a point, *SNAP*, there! Now you believe me don't you? If I can make you believe me like this then I must have some kind of mystical power right? Now you can't do anything but accept that what I've said is the truth." Says the boy, looking very excited.
"Hahaha, lol" I say as I remember a popular saying on my world that turns out to be wrong.
"What's so funny huh? This isn't a laughing matter, you died pretty early in life so now you only get one chance to experience some of the important things that life can offer you! I can't believe you're laughing!" Says the little boy getting annoyed once more.
"Oh, it's not that, It's just that people on my world always said YOLO, which means
"Hoho! Alright I forgive you. So you think I'm like my dad huh? I'm not the
"Woah, you're letting me have my pick among 10,000 worlds the one that I want to live in? You're even better than I first thought
"Well, aren't you brave? Most people would choose a safe planet for their second life as they want to live without worry, but you seem to be a little different from most people. Anyway, one world that I like to keep my eye on is Verstaria, It is compatible with magic, It has mythical beasts, and it even has a skill system! It's a perfect world for those who like adventuring." Spouted the young god. It was pretty obvious that he liked this world, as he was talking very excitedly and had a glint of passion in his eyes.
"I kind of like the sound of that
"Alright! I will send you to Verstaria for your second life. One last thing… my name is Brynis, while
Just as I was about to thank the young god for being so friendly with me, my vision suddenly went black and I felt a sensation similar to riding a roller coaster as my soul was transported to another world.
