Like the Twin Towers

Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro

After a few more quotidian issues that are not worth the time wasted, Enzo and Vini were able to relax a bit. After all, the ball was giving every sign that it would be extremely frustrating. And to clear their minds, in the afternoon they both went to the gym. Besides stimulating the mind and the muscles, you never know who you will meet. And something was saying that Enzo was about to be surprised.

- Hey, if you had a choice between being a child abuser and a terrorist, which one would you choose? - Enzo asked Vini a random question.

- What?

- Let's say you went to a trial and had the choice of being accused of one of the two, which would you choose?

Those words put together created a confusion in Vini's mind, and all he could say in response was:

- What?

Vini couldn't believe that his friend with an - apparently - healthy brain was saying those words.

- I was just saying...

- I heard you, Enzo. - Vini interrupted him. - I only wish I could "unheard" and wipe your question completely from my mind, if it were possible.

- Come on, Vini. It's an interesting philosophical question. The abuser does something terrible to children...

- Enzo, I'm not interested.

Later, halfway through the exercises, Belgium also joined them, even though she had not exactly been invited and had not even mentioned that she was also training at the gym.

- Honey, what are you doing here? - Vini asked, even if a little confused.

- I reactivated my membership. Now I can go to the gym with you.

A reasonable explanation.

- Hey Belgium, the beauty salon is on the other side of the street. - Enzo made a joke.

- I know, they are missing you there! - Belgium responded to the remark.

Since Enzo had ruined Vini's afternoon, why not do the same to Belgium, Enzo probably figured.

- Hey, Belgium, if you had a choice between being a child abuser and a terrorist, which would you choose?

- What sort of question is that? - Belgium was horrified.

This conversation was taking dangerous directions, so both Belgium and Vini had no choice but to leave Enzo. The most important thing is that it was a shared decision by the two.

- What is his problem? - Belgium asked.

- You dated him. - Vini answered, but without answering. - You tell me.

- Hey, you've known him longer!

- What does it matter? I didn't sleep with him?

- Really?

Uh-oh. Belgium wanted to dig up some forgotten business.

- Okay, but it was only once. We only had one bed. - Vini justified.

Yeah, some things really deserve to stay buried.

- So, my father will be away for two weeks. - Belgium announced. - If you want to spend the time with me...

Oh. A direct suggestion. No in-between. No tolls or speed cameras.

- I think it will be very nice. - Vini replied, a little discouraged.

- Is that all you are going to say? - Belgium was frustrated by his discouragement.

- What do you want me to say?

- I want you to be more cheerful. You always say that we don't spend much time together.

Except that Vini never said that.

- I don't recall saying that at all.

- So I'll suggest it once again. Vini, darling, my father is going away for two weeks. You can stay with me...

- Oh, my love, that's a great idea! - Vini has totally changed his mind. - I'll spend two weeks with you, I'll cook dinner, breakfast, and at night we'll fuck for two full weeks like two very horny rabbits.

- There! - Belgium finally approved the answer. - Was that so hard?

On the other end of the gym, on his own, Enzo had to find creative solutions to spend his time. But the isolation period was quite useful, because he managed to move the exercise list forward, a difficult assignment when he normally works out with Vini. But his attention soon shifted when he caught a glimpse from afar of a beautiful girl with straight honey-colored hair, brown eyes, dark shoes, glasses, and white headphones. The only human reaction to that moment was:

- Jesus Wept! - Enzo said.

Danger, danger, danger.

Logic in those situations is thrown out the window. Enzo immediately stopped the training and tried to approach her discreetly. But then, something surprising happened. The girl vanished. Suspicious, very suspicious. Without drawing unwanted attention, he tried to find her. He searched around, but without success. Was this girl a witch? Seconds later, the most unexpected of things happened. No, she was not a witch, because without any kind of warning or sign, she reappeared in a flash right behind him, only different. The same, but different.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

- Did she change her shoes? - Enzo couldn't understand that strange sequence of events.

With that idea haunting him, Enzo returned to his exercises. The list was almost done, but the interest in the mysterious girl kept him intrigued. He couldn't leave without solving the mystery. It didn't make logical sense. And Enzo had to find out before his body exploded into a million pieces. And after some time, he got his answers. Or rather, answer, because the investigation didn't continue for very long after Enzo found the girl again, only this time talking to her clone.

- Oh - Enzo raised his finger. - Now it made perfect sense.

Still, it could be worse.

Six minutes later, Enzo could not take his eyes off the girl. Or rather, girls. How crazy that chain of events had become. But history tells us that if something can get worse, then you can be sure that is what will happen. Well, Vini and Belgium soon joined Enzo together again, who couldn't hide his grimaces and his thoughts for too long.

- Okay, Enzo, say it. - Vini said after a short while.

- What?

- You're at it again. That thing you always do when you're hiding things from me.

- No, I'm not!

Vini would now explain Enzo's thought avoidance process.

- This is the first step that you are hiding something from me. - Vini began to explain. - You deny it copiously.

- I didn't make a copy of anything!

Belgium stared at Vini after hearing this sentence.

- You need to give the dictionary back to him. - Vini's girlfriend suggested.

- Then, you might agree, but not totally, with the possibility. - Vini told the second step.

- Let's suppose I am, just a little bit, but I don't want to tell you.

- Then, you make an offer. Part three.

- And then what? - Even Enzo was interested.

- You eventually tell.

- Do I do this very often?

Vini shook his head.

- I saw this beautiful girl here in the gym.

- And there it is. - Vini concluded his point.

- Who? - Belgium grew interested.

- I don't know. I just saw them. They must be out there somewhere.

Wait a minute.

- They? - Vini was curious. - Oh God, Enzo, what have you done now?

- I'll only tell you if you don't judge.

- And there's the offering. - Vini recalled. - All right, no judgments.

- She has a twin sister.

Vini started to laugh.

- Get out! Really? For real?

- Really really.

- And then how are you going to do it? You liked the girl, and then soon discovered her clone? That must have been a funny scene.

Funny was nowhere near his mind at that moment.

- But are they identical twins? - Belgium asked.

- Like the Twin Towers. - Enzo answered.

- Crap. You know this is a mess, don't you?

- Why would it be? It's one of my fantasies.

- Dating twin sisters? That's the relationship trap. - Vini started to explain another theory. - If you are going out with a girl and it's not going well, your brain convinces you to quickly move to the other girl.

- What a stupid statement, Vini!

- Don't argue with science, Belgium! - Enzo took Vini's side, obviously.

- Science of the idiots.

- We are here talking and talking, but still we haven't seen the Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen sisters.

- How hilarious you are, Vini!

And on the outside, Enzo noticed the two girls leaving the gym. With a hand movement, he pointed to the door to indicate who the two girls in the chapter were. But Vini was a bit confused and needed further explanation.

- Enzo, where are they? - Vini looked around, without success. - You pointed to the door, but those two children are in front.

Uh-oh. Problem.

- No, Vini, you idiot!

It took no longer than five seconds before Vini understood what was happening. It took Belgium a little longer. Still...

- You're joking, aren't you? - Belgium was puzzled.
