Chapter 3: Union of Three Kingdoms

Hubor was the capital of the Union of Three Kingdoms, which was led by three kings simultaneously. The human king was Vidlas Hessa, a man with white hair and a beard. The Hessa dynasty was the most influential family in the Union, being among the three kings since the first years of the Union’s formation.

The runirrs were small rodents, only about two feet tall, but were the most special creatures on Yagrott. They were the only creatures who could use magic and became the best fighters because of this ability. Their king was Kaak, who became a king a few months before the kramstuk rebellion after his father died.

The third species was the rohands. They were wolf-like, powerful, tall creatures, who were the rivals of the kramstuks while the Kramstuk Kingdom existed. Their king was in a coma after an injury he sustained a few years before.

Rikdur looked around. The council meeting started, two out of the three kings were there, along with powerful dukes and generals, sitting around a large round table. Rikdur was a runirr warrior and archer. He was there because king Kaak invited him too.

“Thank you for everyone who joined us for this meeting,” said Vidlas, the human king. “I called this meeting because we need to talk about the fnar situation. As you probably already know, they are stationing their armies at their borders with Cha’rion. We’re sure they want to invade the kingdom.”

“We promised to protect any kingdom against the fnars,” a rohand with gray fur stood up from his chair. She was Finiel, who represented the rohands, as king Aldhros was in a coma. “I think we should raise our armies, and send a diplomat to Cha’rion.”

“That would provoke them,” spoke king Kaak. His small crown almost fell off his head as he stood up. “The kramstuks are sabotaging them every day. They could rise up in a rebellion any day. Emperor Veer can’t be that stupid to attack Cha’rion when his empire is falling apart.”

“Veer is stupid enough to do that, just like all the fnars,” said the only kramstuk in the council. He was in heavy armor and had a strange helmet. His name was Greuroth.

Greuroth was born a few months before the fnars attacked the Kramstuk Kingdom. He wasn’t an ordinary fnar. He was the bastard son of Stebar Harkcent, the last kramstuk king.

“Look, ser Greuroth, we understand that you don’t like the fnars because they destroyed your kingdom,” Kaak argued.

“My lord, with respect, we need to protect Cha’rion against them,” Greuroth said with a bit of anger in his voice. Kaak was a young, inexperienced king, and Greuroth knew that and didn’t respect him. He believed that an inexperienced leader should shut up and listen to what others have to say.

“Everyone, calm down!” said Vidlas. “Our goal is to prevent a war on the continent. The question is if we have to go to war with the fnars for this.”

“We must guarantee the freedom of Cha’rion,” Finiel responded. “We made a promise, and we must keep it! We should send soldiers to defend Cha’rion in case of a fnar attack!”

“We have borders with the fnars too,” Kaak disagreed. “If we help Cha’rion, they could invade us!”

“Then send soldiers to our own borders too, it’s not that hard.”

“Sorry for interrupting,” Rikdur stood up from his tall chair. His fur was white and brown, with big blue eyes. “I think we should talk with the king of Cha’rion first. We don’t even know if they want our help.”

“If you want to send a diplomat to Cha’rion, send me,” said Greuroth, the kramstuk warrior.

“Ser Rikdur,” king Kaan looked at the other runirr. “Why don’t you go to Cha’rion?”

“I think both of them should go,” spoke king Vidlas. “Ser Rikdur and ser Greuroth. You can go as soon as you wish.”

“I would rather go alone,” Greuroth argued.

“I disagree. I want my loyal servant to go with you,” said king Kaak.

Greuroth had to agree. He didn’t have any problem with rikdur, but he hated to travel with someone else, especially a runirr.

“It’s settled, then. The meeting is over. May the Gods guide you!” king Vidlas ended the meeting.

Rikdur walked out of the castle towards the stables to find Greuroth, who was already preparing his Sohol.

“So, I guess we’re diplomats now,” said the small rodent, trying to start a conversation with the kramstuk. Greuroth remained silent. “So, do you think we’ll arrive there in 2 weeks?”

“We’ll need at least three weeks,” the kramstuk responded.

“Yeah, your estimations are probably better,” Rikdur smiled. He found Greuroth a great warrior and respected him. “So, do you think the fnars will attack Cha’rion?”

“Yeah. Veer is stupid. He wants to be a hero to the fnars, like his father was.”

Greuroth jumped onto the back of his Sohol, then looked at Rikdur.

“Are you coming with a sohol, or…?”

“Well, I’m not that big, so I’m going with you, if that’s not a problem for you,” Rikdur responded.

Greuroth sighed. “Fine.”

Rikdur jumped on the back of the same sohol. Greuroth kicked the side of the sohol, and it started running on the road. They were going straight to Cha’rion.
