Chapter 11: Got to think BIG!
After that short stint of enjoyment, its back to work, but what really is work. I have money security what more could I want. Why do I still work hard?
It’s a tough couple of questions. Before I had the greed for money after that was satiated, I needed for security to protect my life now I have both all I have left is my passion for the material. Feels slightly shallow although other researchers might disagree.
I’ve been thinking too small if I want to truly advance my passion, I need something bigger I need to work on doing amazing things. But what should I do? I’ve got to think about an area to work towards, something that people couldn’t believe was possible beforehand. People are going to think very quickly about space travel, building, the military is there anything I’m missing?
It is too early in the morning for existential crisis and deep thought, “I need coffee”. With a sip of a sugar-infused coffee with a hint of diabetes, I go back to deep thought. I’m really pushing the limits of my wit and education at the moment if I try something massive, I am liken to fall on my face.
A floating house, or more specifically a floating city of which you can live on. Conceptually it's possible but a multitude of issues makes me hesitant. First of all, it would need to be completely floating even the people without gravity, if the houses on top had weight the whole thing would fall. But maybe if a monumental amount is weightless then only a thin tread on the floor has weight people would be held down, be able to fly or walk at there leisure. It would need to have some form of propulsion at the bottom to fight the small quantity of weight that will be.
With that I have an idea, bringing that idea to the board or more specifically Shanell.
“Are you crazy” she shouts
“that is such a massive leap for something so new, what if it went wrong the costs are one thing for failure but the human life risk is another”
“I’m not in the business of gambling” sighing frustratingly
“Fine fine I get it, building it like that would be a fundamentally bad idea, but what about a prototype several in fact that can prove each part fundamentally works.”
“If you want to do this, prove the project is even possible, build prototypes for each individual component part of your idea, I also want a prototype for every combination. Not only that if you jump through all those hoops this city, but we will also need to build it in small components and expand upon them to keep costs controlled, limit failure costs, and make it safer. Like the space station modules.”
“That’s genius, you got it boss” I shout excitedly before running out the room
She quietly murmurs “if anyone can do it, it's that crazy bastard. Who have I hired”

Setting off on my idea, this is either gonna fail spectacularly or revolutionize the world and space efficiency.
Okay the boring part, planning. I've got to condense my idea into an overall goal, break it into several small goals, then plan a way forward. First of all my idea is an artificial land structure that floats in the air, we can build upon it, it could potentially fly in specific directions. A giant sky island if you will. People should be able to live there for extended periods of time without health concerns so it cant all be antigravity.
As far as we can tell the crystals don’t become exhausted so they are renewable, this will need lots of testing but seems to be the case. I will base it upon the assumption that they don’t run out but more may be required to be added, so a modular system with the potential for upgrades.
Alright, an idea in place lets thinks of goals. First people need to be able to walk along with it or fly. I already have an idea for this, tiny quantities of the black crystal that nullifies the antigravity along paths to create function wall ways reaching maybe a foot above the ground, so if you step inside you will have mood gravity. But otherwise, you float. Not perfect but I'm sure they can wear super heavy boots to help. Sleeping, we could possibly create bedrooms with black crystal for people to sleep in with normal gravity but that with the impact the need for propulsion.
So goal number one, paths for walking, goal number 2 keeping it in the air with the minimum possible amount of energy to keep it afloat. I think a massive structure with controlled holes to create updrafts to use the wind to help counteract some of the weight from people and pavement. I was also thinking of solar panels to create heated water for steam using that steam to fill massive balloons while simultaneously creating a water purifier. This would be renewable but we would need other sources during the night. Well, anyways goal 2 efficient, cheap propulsion to counteract goal 1s deficits. Goal 3, make it cool. We need it to be attractive so people will pay to live there. We could have a land purchase system or rent system. Maybe both. Other methods possibly. But we need to attract people so we make our money back, maybe make is tecky or look magical, decorations, art, and good design will be key here. I'm getting sidetracked I need fundamental goals. Okay goal 4, anchors something to stop us floating away when we are not on the move. Goal 5 being able to move without outside resources so stuff like traveling the ocean, kind of ties into goal 2 but is still fundamentally important. Cheap methods might include sails like a boat.
Wait wait wait, that’s a great idea, airboats, using sails to control the direction we can swim through the air. That would fix goal 6 which I haven’t mentioned yet. Transport between places outside of jumping on. This would be a great thing to sell il have to design one. I guess learning about sailing is on the list. Back to goal 5 anchors, I'm thinking massive chains that can have their gravity turned on and off but fundamentally just attach to the ground, maybe only the bottom has gravity so they just sit on the ground like a Snorlax. I'm definitely making one look like a Snorlax now.
Okay, goal 6 we already have a plan goal 7, yeah I haven’t planned that far so let's do the first 6 and then see what problems are left. I’m sure we will find tons.
Plan number 1 airboats, I didn’t choose it because its cool. First, they will be vital for my passion project, second, if passion project fails or needs to stop for some unseen problems my time will be well used as it will be a great money maker while being on the cheaper side of things. After that, walkways I think they will revolutionize how we utilize environments of zero gravity and will have a massive impact used for my project or otherwise. Another idea is magnetic boots, which might be a cheaper alternative. But they might also be stiff and not taken well, might be a cheaper alternative for the beds without increasing weight of the island. That’s actually a great idea il keep that in the books.
I’m just rambling at this point I have a plan and il be getting started on it.
