And again i find myself doing battle in a war i know little of... well, at least now i am not restricted by anything but my own choices.
After the summoning i find myself at the edge of a forest, with a wooden pallisade around a hudred meters in front with a little hill around halfway there to the left.
"CROSSBOWS TO THE HILL! NOW! ARCHERS UP THE TREES AND SUPPORT THEM!"
After hearing that order i stop gawking at the scenery and get moving, in time too because i'm at the rear and the ones in front of me are already running, and there are some archers from the pallisade loosing at us. After the ones with shields at the front get to the hill some enemies appear from the other side of it, we are around 20 and the enemy is easily double that, thankfully for us, we all have already loaded crossbows and they aren't wearing much armor, so when we loose around 15 guys fall, as they continue rushing towards us some of us drop their crossbow, plant their shields if they have them and draw a melee weapon, at least the front liners are well equipped, crossbow plus shield and a spear to hold the front, even if they are only six and half the rest don't even have a secondary weapon, me included, but after seeing that the bulk of the army is already engaged trying to breach the walls and no enemy will make it past them in a while i reload as fast as i can, so as slow as one can expect and then some, and then try to look for somewhere i can loose with a reasonable chance of not killing some of our own, those with melee weapons are bunched up forming a line against the enemy to, presumably, give us enough time to reload and loose again, they are doing great taking into account they are outnumbered two to one, but they are circling them to get to us so i loose another bolt towards one trying to do just that, and it seems i was not the first to reload because there is more than one corpse on the ground already, and then i see an arrow fly from behind me and strike another one to the ground, after that there are more arrows doing just that, by the time i lift my head to look for another enemy i see there are less of them then of us now and counting down.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
"THE TOP IS CLEAR! ARCHERS TAKE IT! CROSSBOWMEN TO THE MAIN ARMY AND HELP COVER THEM!"
As that is heard the ones on the fron sheathe their weapons, pick up their crossbow and shield and start running to where the main army is drawing the attention of the defenders. So of course the rest of us follow them. As we run there i look up and see an imp covered in robes up the pallisade with a pole twice as long as he is tall glowing in a noticeable murky red, as soon as i see it the glow starts to poll and condense at the tip, then the imp points towards our direction.
