Lucius was left outside of the large school building, his master Belladonna standing outside the gate of the area. The only ones allowed within the gate at this time were the children whose first day this would be. Lucius was one of many but stood out in a very distinct way. His dark black hair. All around him stood heads of bright purple hair. Even his master had the same colored hair. All the more to make Lucius feel like the odd one out. A large space was put between him and the other children. Most of which were turned the opposite direction from the boy. Others, parents included, that were surprised by the anomaly before them.
Belladonna watched in fear that something terrible would happen to Lucius before he could enter the school.
“I take it that one is with you?” A random parent asked Belladonna as she watched.
‘What’s it to you?” She quickly jabbed back.
“What are you doing with an Onyxborn child? That’s what i’m questioning.”
“Once again. What’s it to you?” Belladonna began to get irritated. To her, Lucius was the child she cared to protect. To others, he was a problem they wanted to deal with but couldn’t.
“This school serves proud Amethystborn children. Not lowlife Onyxborn trash.” The random father insulted. Belladonna grew furious, yet she held her composure. For Lucius.
“This school serves whatever child is willing to learn.” Belladonna angrily stated as the parent stood by and just laughed in response.
“And what will this boy learn. How to not die like the rest of his people?” The man continued to taunt Belladonna and insult Lucius.
Lucius took a few steps back as the doors looked to be encroaching on his position. The other parents and children watched as the door opened and revealed a single figure standing in the frame. A tall person garbed in a robe that covered their whole length from the top of the head to the ground. The robe was dark purple, had a brighter outline and several jewels embroidered into it’s design.
The figure looked down to the child closest to it. Lucius. There were no eye holes or way to tell where this person's eyes were looking, but Lucius could tell they were gazing into him. They looked up and greeted the rest of the students.
‘Welcome 1st years. It is an honor to have another group of bright minds here again.” The figure loomed over the young students as it gave their introduction. “Parents. I can take it from here. Children come with me.”
Noone moved at all. Not the children, not the parents. Both for similar reasons. Lucius was ahead of everyone. The robed figure made it’s way back to the door, when they noticed no children were following them, it was well aware of why. He saw the large gap between Lucius and the children. Others were trying to move forward. Yet one girl was standing before the rest of them. Acting as a barrier between the other children and Lucius.
“Come along now. Classes will begin soon. And we’d better not be late.” The figure demanded before turning again. “An Onyxborn, and a warrior priestess in training in the same class. This is going to be a very fascinating year.”
Lucius took his first steps into the building. Taking one last look back to his master, who gave him a comforting smile as she left his sight. In his peripheral the other students started to walk behind him, leaving the gap as wide as it was before as they were led by the young girl who acted as their leader of sorts.
The halls of the school were filled with paintings with some of its most prestigious students. Amethystborn prodigies memorialize for every new coming student to have something to look up to. Calamis, the girl holding the other children away from Lucius, took in the sights and was excited to get her chance at this hall of fame. She already had asserted a dominance over the other children. There was just one left. The one in front of her.

The children were all brought to the main lobby, where before them would be three individuals.
“First graders. Allow me to present your teachers.” The figure turned back to the children, then levitated itself to each of the three. The first he stopped at was a woman, her hair was bright purple like many of the children lined up behind Lucius. She was confined to a wheelchair but even the children were able to notice her tall build as the chair was large enough to fit nearly 4 of the children. Her face was blindfolded, making many of the children believe she was blind. She wore a dress that reached to just her thighs. Surrounding her were many one eyed dolls that stood as tall as the wheels of her chair. “This is Ms. Goldyna.”
The next teacher. The children became immediately terrified by his appearance. A 8 foot tall man with the body of a purple gecko. His large beady eyes glared down on all of the children. Standing so motionless like a large statue his bob of greasy grass colored hair blowing in the wind was the only thing confirmed he was a living creature. His large fingers, rounded at the tip, held a clipboard of the students to be with him, and a tail dragged on the floor due to it already being nearly as tall as him. The floating figure announced him next. “This is Mr. Ge’Dorak.”
Lastly and most unknowingly least was a small woman. Who look normal to the children because she matched them, and Goldyna’s dolls in height. Nothing was off with her, putting the children at ease. “And this is Ms.Karline. You all will be separated into 3 classes. There will be 6 periods each day. You all will alternate between these 3 teachers, as you will next year and the year after.” The floating figure explained.
“Hello children. We are Ms.Goldyna.” The woman bound to the wheelchair didn’t speak. Instead each of the dolls spoke in unison for her. Making the children more off balance. “We will be your social studies and science teacher.”
Next to speak was the gecko, and all of them were anticipating a raspy voice spoken through a mucus filled throat. “I am Mr. Ge’Dorak. I will be your Math and Reading teacher.” His voice was calming. Almost handsome in a way. The children's fears subside, and his features became more likable to them.
Lastly was Karline. She just looked over to the children and gave a large bright smile, that gave off a sinister feel to it. “I’m your P.E and Health teacher. Don’t disappoint me.”
With the introductions out of the way the children were all split into 3 separate classes of first graders. Students last name A-I would be with Goldyna. J-Q would be with Ge’Dorak. R-Z with Karline. The latter of the three included Lucius Tenebris.
Health class is the first period of the day for Lucius. The desks were arranged horizontally in groups of three. Lucius was placed between two other children. Who already gave him distrubed looks upon realizing he would be between them. They turned back and consulted with Calamis, the girl who had become everyone’s friend almost immediately. The children all spoke to each other loudly. Lucius put his belonging down near his seat.
“Lucius…” he heard his name come up in one of his classmate’s conversation. His head jolted towards the direction as if he was being called to. And saw that it was Calamis, speaking with the boy and girl that Lucius had to seat between. The girl noticed him. “What are you looking at?” Calamis snapped at the boy. Lucius didn’t turn away at first. He instead remembered what his master told him.
“Try to make friends.” He understood that there might be some tension between him and the other children. Even if they didn’t want it. So it would be up to him to rid himself and the school of said tension. Confidently, he walked over to the girl and her friends. All but Calamis flinched at his approach, but the boy was not hostile.
“I thought I heard you say my name.” He uttered with a smile, and extended his hand. “My name is Lucius Tenebris. I hope we can be friends.” Calamis, however, was not taking his gesture. She swiped the boy's hand away.
“I know who you are Onyxboy. You’re a dirty fiend and you don’t deserve to be here. Now leave us alone.” The girls words cut into Lucius. He retracted his hand and slowly turned away. His plan failed. The boy returned to his seat. Sitting down and not making a sound. The rest of the children filled the classroom with their noise. And even if he didn’t contribute to it, noone was able to keep their minds off the only Onyxborn in their class.
The teachers were all left with the floating figure in the hallway. The topic at hand is the remainder of the protocols for the beginning of the school year, and Lucius.
“What are we to do about the Onyxborn?” Goldyna’s dolls asked.
“We shall do nothing. He is here, and he will learn.” The figure responded nonchalantly.
“A survivor of the terrible, and haunting Onyxborn Genocide. Quite the interesting student we have with us at our institute.” De’Groak commented. He, unlike Goldyna and many of the students, did not mind the presence of Lucius. He more so wished to see how the young man would flourish in this environment. “Calamis Thymir. Warrior Priestess in training. Several decades have passed since we’ve had one enroll here. I’m almost sad they won’t be my first period.”
“Oh can it you slimeball? I’m the one stuck with ‘em. Can’t even imagine what P.E. is gonna look like. It’d be like another war out there.” Karosul sulked over the potential problems she would face. Yet the more and more she thought, the more and more she reveled with the idea of seeing two children constantly at each other's throats. “Ooooh. This might be so bad after all.”
“It doesn’t matter what happens. As long as we educate him just the same as any other student. The Diamond Immortals choice to let him live is what we must abide by. Now all of you should be off. Remember to put aside your prejudices towards his fallen people. None of that matters now.” The figure concluded, flying off as the teachers headed to their individual classrooms. To begin their new school year.
