I hear them talk.
“Witnesses state that R, the vigilante stopped a bank robbery minutes before the police even showed up.”
“R has yet again, stopped another crime in downtown Los Angeles, making his first appearance there since the shootings two years ago.”
“Just who is R? What do we know about him? Many say he’s the hero the world needs. He is the only superhero in existence and many people wonder and hope there are others. His pure existence gives children the hope that superpowers are actually possible. However many fear that chance will breed supernatural crime.”
“It’s ironic, we know who R is. He isn’t afraid to show his face. We know what he can do, it isn’t much, he’s weak, vulnerable but that doesn’t make him any less dangerous. What baffles us is that we can’t figure out his name. I don’t know how he did it but he has successfully removed himself from existence, records wise.”
I hear their doubts.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
“It’s stupid to think he can be everywhere in the world at once. People are mad at him because he is unable to stop some thief from stealing their goddamn candy bar.”
“R isn’t a good person. He may be doing well now but you still need to remember all the bad things he has done. The shootings of LA is an example. Or even all the crimes he’s committed before. He was more a supervillain than hero back then.”
“R is not immune to the law. Sure, he can’t be contained but that doesn’t stop Law Enforcement sustaining him if he does not comply. R is still mortal; he can be easily killed just like every single person in this small world. Many try all the time, hell we even tried back in December two years ago. We almost got him, but we just couldn’t keep up.”
“If I were him, I would let all this merchandising come out and promote myself. It’s stupid that he destroys all the factories that try to sell his name and figure.”
“We should be scared of R. He’s gone sour before, what if he loses faith in humanity and abandons us? We really should be building a defense if such a case were to ever happen.”
“R? I don’t know, he’s not a hero. He isn’t bad. I think there’s much more to him then what we see. It’s not like he’s protecting whoever he can because he has to or he has this responsibility. The world isn’t black and white like that. He helps for a reason; he isn’t bad for that same reason. At least that’s what I believe.”
