Conscious, that’s what he felt like. The words appeared in his mind but as they did, he wondered what they meant. He didn’t remember a thing, but they felt right as if he intrinsically knew their meaning. He tried opening his eyes, a motion he felt was only natural, but he found he couldn’t, making him doubt the instincts he had just come to appreciate. Even the acknowledgment of the phrase “He.” which seemed to point towards his identify as if an identifier that should explain all that he was, now seemed empty. With no reference, it was but another word that he didn’t understand or comprehend but one he hoped to hold on to, lest he lose all that he was.
He could feel warmth from above him which seemed to want to draw something from within him, he seemed to conjure an image of a ball of flame hidden in a blue expanse. But that was it no more information was available to him, so he settled for the comfort the warmth seemed to bring. The darkness that was his existence seemed to unnerve him, but he had no method to see or perceive his surrounding, so he stayed there. Unsure of his form or manner as he seemed to have no feeling of his body.
The warmth from above seemed to grow in intensity. Although he couldn’t really perceive to what degree, he settled, drawing solace from it in the darkness he sat in. The position the warmth hit him from seemed to change too, starting from his side going up until it rested above him.As the warmth grew, he seemed to feel an energy moving through his body. The movement of this strange energy painted a picture for him finally allowing him to perceive his body. For one it seemed that the top of his body was made up of different segments which conflicted with his instinct seemingly denying the shape he perceived to be his own. The segments were oval in shape and seemed to be the points of contact with the heat he was feeling and as soon as he saw the outline they formed, a word came to mind “leaf” this sort of realization sent his mind into a panic which soon settled as he didn’t seem to have a reason to do so.

The energy seemed to travel down from the “leaves”, through stick like appendages “branches” another word he seemed to now know converging into his center down to other branch like appendages which did not end in more leaves as he imagined they would, instead they grew thinner and more numerous forming a network like structure, “roots. “His ever so dependable instincts informed him. As the energy moved around his entire body, he seemed to be able to perceive every minute being of his body. With this view his instincts seemed to have come to a conclusion. “I am a tree. “
The realization seemed to send shivers down his very core, but on second thought it didn’t seem to matter as he didn’t know what he was previously and now he did, although something felt off, it wasn’t largely important as he lacked any knowledge to that effect. And so, as he felt the warmth slowly retreat, leaving only the energy that coursed through his body to keep him company in the darkness that was his existence, still, he mentally smiled, feeling fulfilled to at least know what he was. He, whatever his name was, was a tree.
