Chapter 3 Choices, Chester, choices.

Chapter 3 Choices, Chester, choices.

Chester spent a long time staring in confusion at the list before settling his racing thoughts enough to focus on his choices. He had a decision to make.

I need to concentrate.

He reread Freya’s note on the classes before putting on his thinking hat.

He immediately dismissed the first seven classes.

Pugilist was decent with one rare synergy but he forced himself to believe he was now a half-elf woman. He needed to adjust his thinking to that distinct possibility. Besides I have no skill at fist-fighting outside of a few bar brawls.

You’re being an idiot Chester.

“Just, say, something,” he said out loud and shuddered at the craziness of his new voice. It was beautiful. He couldn’t think of another way to describe the silky tones. I should try singing something. What though? Everything I've practiced is more suited to my old voice.

With an exaggerated sigh, he finally settled on Bill Withers – Ain't No Sunshine.

The results blew him away. His range was incredible, it flowed easily in a natural Mezzo-Soprano, that would let him sing a lot of the few dozen songs he already knew well, in the ways he loved.

A huge smile split his face and he decided to try the few remembered lines of Sia’s Titanium. In tribute to a movie, he’d never admit being a fanboy of.

When he'd finished, it wasn’t perfect by any means but with work, he figured he could get it close. That was if his ears weren’t betraying him. Something was going on with his hearing, the tone and pitch of his voice were much clearer.

He let out a nervous chuckle, the sound startling. It's so strange having this new voice, even my chuckle sounds sexy.

With a sigh, he slowly slid his hand toward his lower body but stopped himself short, unable to do it yet.

I want... I need to see. I need to get this Class thing figured out and take a better look at my surroundings and myself. I’m pretty sure no one undergoes this naked and alone. I’m completely defenseless like this.

Back to Pugilist. I wonder if it’s like Earth here. That women are physically weaker than men, due to a lack of testosterone—exceptions aside. Or do these synergistic abilities level the playing field? Do I dare risk it? Simple answer, no. It's much better to play to my strengths.

Okay, so what are my strengths? Got to keep in mind I need to pimp out Freya’s religion.

Why am I not super unnerved by the possibility of being a woman? How can I be this objective about it? The thought made him frown. Later, he decided.

He brought his character sheet back up after some fumbling. Eventually figuring out that it took mentally pushing on the idea that he wanted to see it before it returned.

He spent a good while studying it with his decision in mind.

Okay, Charisma, Dexterity, Agility for stats. Piano, singing, guitar, and framing for skills. I also have the professions of Carpenter and Bard. I’m not sure how they apply, other than as a representation of my current skill. Everything else is average if my stats are any approximation of average. I also have one unspent stat point. It appears the modifiers increase with every two points in a stat after ten. I wonder how often we get stat points, if at all.

Hmm. Ok, let's drop anything that doesn’t consider my strengths and the fact I'm probably no longer a man. That leaves me builder, minstrel, and cleric. Builder will have to go; construction ties you to one place and Freya wants me to travel and spread her word.

So, Minstrel or Cleric. Pros and cons.

Minstrel.

Pros: It's music and performing. There are 6 synergies including a legendary tag on Musical. It’s a charisma heavy class. It impacts a lot of my strongest skills. People like music, so people will be more helpful. Might get that from being a girl anyway. Though I don’t know how elves or half breeds are treated either; speciesism might be a thing. There are sub-classes to fill holes.

Cons: No obvious combat applications. Having a bard class. Possibly banned by a major religion, or against social norms.

Cleric.

Pros: Suck up to Freya. Healing, potentially. Death synergy, whatever that does. War synergy. A fertility bonus could be good for blessing women and crops.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Cons: Fertility bonuses; the last thing I want to do is pop out kids. It’s bad enough she already blessed me with it personally.

Religion, eh. Who are you kidding Chesty? You’ll never take the religious option; what would gran think? Although, Freya kind of proved that there are gods... Hmm. Fuck it, I’ll slay them with my awesome music powers. Play the cards you're dealt, and all that.

“I choose Minstrel,” he said aloud in his new voice.

Please confirm the choice of Minstrel.

“I choose Minstrel,” he repeated.

Choose Two Active Abilities

(Next choice is at level Five. These skills seem to lack cooldowns. How long can you play for?)

Amplify (Summon Instrument pyth)

Dancing Golem (Wooden Gem/Summon Instrument pyth)

Shrink instrument (Inventory pyth)

Create or repair wooden instrument (Wooden Gem)

Create Stage (Wooden Gem)

Shaped Growth (Wooden Gem/Summon Instrument pyth)

Fascinate/Charm (Wooden Gem/Summon Instrument pyth)

Create Miniature Instrument storage (All three)

There was no further information. I bet people fanatically guard information on what these abilities do.

Choices, Chester, choices. Better to do the elimination game. Create or repair is out since I can summon them. Create stage, yeah no. Creating storage is also pointless. Same with shrink instrument, for the same reasons. I wonder if Dancing golem has uses other than dancing. Not risking that either.

That leaves Fascinate/charm, Amplify, and Shaped Growth

Amplify sounds straight forward but I’m unsure of the utility right now. It's not like I have a crowd to play to. Maybe in the future when I get to level 5. I need something that will help me survive. Charm is straightforward, although I hope it works on animals. And Shaped growth might let me grow food. That and they both have two synergies and that likely means they are stronger... I hope.

“I choose Fascinate/charm and Shaped growth.”

Please confirm the choices of Fascinate/charm and Shaped growth.

“I confirm.”

Fascinate/Charm: As you play soothing melodies, you can keep one person per rank + Char(mod) people and/or creatures enraptured if they fail a will check against the caster. The weak of will may even fight for you.

Rank 2

Shaped Growth: Play and sing with intent and the world will bloom for you. Plants in a radius of (Char(mod)*Rank yards about you will grow to your intent; as you play music and/or sing. The growth speed is increased up to Rank*Char(mod) inches a second. Growth will stop and die if the soil isn’t sufficient to support it.

Rank 2

“Fucking score.” He pumped a fist, and it did interesting things to his chest. Alright, that should be the last thing, right?

As if to contradict him, the character screen popped open again. It was all filled in now, the name and unspent stat point fields blinked. Chester threw the stat point into Charisma, then thought at the screen. I’ll choose later. To his relief, it closed, and screens no longer endangered his life.

Now, finally able to take in his surroundings with a clear head, he frowned. Where the hell did you leave me, Freya? What was that warm body earlier? He shrugged after a moment of silence, at a loss, as he looked about.

He was in a roughly carved cave. An old mine dug by hand? There were bone bits scattered about the floor, dried, and cracked with age. It was otherwise empty and smelled clean. Likely long abandon by whatever creature last occupied it.

Light streamed in through a large crack in the ceiling. Choked with crawling vines and colorful moss.

Taking a deep breath, he steeled his nerve and looked down at himself. Well, maybe it’s herself now? Freya’s tits Chester, you have tits!

He laughed for a minute but then it slowly morphed into sobs, as a strange sadness enveloped him. What the shit, why am I crying?

He cried for a while holding his new chest before feeling more grounded and in control when it passed.

The release helped.

He laughed with relief, then groaned as a light cramp ran through his abdomen. It feels like my bloody stomach is trying to flip. Still manageable.

“Let’s get a good look at our new self,” he told himself after it passed and he caught his breath.

Standing up, he felt significantly shorter. Closer to maybe 5’ 9” than the 6’ 4” he’d been. Well, perhaps that’s normal for people here or elves? Though it's hard to judge without a reference point. He shrugged, nothing he could do about it anyway.

Next, he grabbed one of his heavy breasts and hefted it thoughtfully; the weight was doing strange things to his balance already.

“Really, Freya? These things are at least Double D’s, was that necessary? And while I’m asking, why the hell am I naked, couldn’t you spare anything to wear?” he asked the ceiling, doing a double-check around the small cave before sighing at the lack of response. She did say I was on my own until she has more followers.

Giving up his gripe, he pulled a strand of his hair forward discovering the wavy auburn locks from earlier belonged to him. From the tickle against his back, it reached somewhere in the middle. His arm was a dark tan color that you see on racially ambiguous women. Works, I guess. He shrugged, boobs bouncing with the movement. I’ll need to train myself not to shrug so much. Might have unintentional consequences. He added a note for himself.

“Time for the big one,” he muttered and looked down. He let out a deep shuddering breath at what he found and goosebumps rolled up his back.

“Well Chester, dude, I have some news for you. I’m not sure you’re going to believe me, but you're no longer a dude. I mean the signs were there; the voice, the breasts, the hair, the sleek arms, but you kept ignoring them. This confirms it. At least it’s a nice tidy one; not all meaty lips. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It's kind of pretty, a small tuft of hair like someone waxed it for us. Hey, we even have a six-pack,” she said to herself conversationally.
