A Day in The Life Of...

A Day in The Life Of...

Music is amazing isn’t it, so many stories and so much emotion can be conveyed from such a simplistic yet complex mixture of sounds.

Such stories, so much emotion and complexity conveyed simply by organizing sound.

Just one series of noises can be enough to send people into a swirling mix of emotions. And oh, when one adds more than one kind of noise, the world that opens up is impossible to explain.

It began with two simple instruments and some personal pazzaz. The enigmatic energy, the emotion, and personality one can bring to music.

And yet with but two instruments create music, a melody, a dance of tension, and release two instruments and two melodies. And another comes in, between one and the other Carrying the wind from the windows as a breeze was felt in the room.

The furniture dancing with the music, an apex, a false one, a relaxation with something off. Something off becomes something more, another melody, another tension it comes again and it is familiar, dancing and prediction the room moves further the music expands and we dance alongside it, the room, the world itself begins to dance along with a song so... so…

“SOL YOU ARE BEING WAY TOO LOUD”

Sol turned around to the intruder, Jen stood impatient frowning at him.

“What is it Jen?” Sol sighed

“You caused Andrew's engine to blow up. Again.”

“I did?” As Sol quickly stood up, the furniture crashed onto the floor and the world returned to its normal rhythm.

“And it was super loud, You are SO annoying”

Sol chuckled and made his way out of the room

“What can I say,” Sol spoke hiding a smirk “My music really is magical.” Sol looked out the window down into the courtyard to see Mateas rush to extinguish the fire as he instructed Andrew to stay away from his engine.

“Hey, Andrew!” Sol yelled out the window.

Andrew, standing there with a defeated look on his face and covered with fire extinguishing foam yelled back to Sol.

“I AM SO TELLING ON YOU!”

Sol half-smiled down at him “I am so sorry, I'll definitely help you make a new one!”

Andrew looked down at his feet, demoralized. Mateas grabbed him by his shoulder and walked him back into the building, taking just a moment to give Sol the stink eye.

Sol turned away from the window back to the music room, one blown engine doesn't mean he should stop.

{

Elsewhere in the building Paulina Skimmed through Alfreds' cabinet looking for the least expensive drink he had in store. She didn’t want to drink away what would be a month’s rent.

Jensen heard the music start back up, and before she could do anything Maja burst into the room “Sol,” An undercurrent of threat slipped into her voice, “What, in this entire spectrum of magic, from Nu to Old, do you think you are doing?”

“I’m returning to my music” he spoke with a level of smug gullibility that almost had to be forced, “We should be practicing and advancing our magic, our art.”

She stared him down, he couldn’t be this obtuse, it had to be an act.

He did not flinch.

Maja let out a huge sigh. “Can you at least let them make sure the fire is fully out before you start another one”

“Why would I? Mateas already took care of it”

“You know, for the supposed caretaker, you are doing a terrible job” Maja said sullenly.

“Oh no need for that kind of tone Maja, I’ll go talk with Ed later”

“This is Edwards's fourth project you blew up!” Maja pushed the words through her clenched teeth. “This. is. not. okay”

“I got him the permission to go out into the forest, you know how much convincing I had to do in order for Alfred to agree?” Sol waited a moment seeing no response, “it was a…”

“A whole lotta work for you, yes, yes I get that Sol. Still. Do you know what other problems this causes? and no, practicing your art is not an excuse to cause a mess.” Maja took a breath to calm herself and then asserted “Now. go apologize.”

Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.

“Right right” Sol said as he moved towards the door

“WAIT, SOL you promised you’d talk to me” Jensen called out from behind.

Sol smirked to himself and did a dramatic turn around “Oops, already occupied, sorry Maja.”

As Maja began responding they all heard a loud yell “MAJA, GET TO THE FIRST FLOOR”

Maja eyed Sol as she left the room “COMING”.

{ Vancy Paige brake

}

Sol smiled at Jensen “Thank you”

Jensen smiled cheekily “no problem, but i am still angry that you blew up the engine”

Sol went to the corner of the room where the mighty ‘throne of pillows’ was located

“Come on, you wanted to talk to me, lets sit”

Jense sat down at the ‘throne of pillows’ making herself comfortable.

“So. Jensen, what is it?”

“Can you deal with Jack?”

“This is a really Vague statement Jensen.”

“Can you make him any less annoying?” Jensen asked drily

Sol chuckled before answering, “and what exactly is it that annoys you?”

“Everything Sol!, he just won’t stop eavesdropping, like, he might as well be behind that door,” Jensen said pointing at the door.

And that is exactly when Pulina peaked her head in, hiding something behind the door, “I can guarantee to you he isn't behind this one!”

“Oh Paulina, how was your run this morning?” asked Sol as he motioned for her to join.

“It was amazing'' Paulina said, Placing a fine bottle of Bunnahabhain that she ‘borrowed’ onto the table.

“Paulina, where did you get the Bunnahabhain?”

“Oh, that?” Paulina said waving the drink, “Alfred left his cabinet unlocked for me”

Paulina winked at Jensen as she smoothly poured the drink into shot glasses.

“And what makes you think you are allowed to take that? Do you know how expensive and rare this is?”

“Yeah, I know. And it is way less expensive than the guitar you have on that wall.”

“Not again Paulina.” Sol let out a long sigh.

“What? Am I wrong?” Paulina said as she smuggled a shot glass over to Jensen

“Yes, you are,” Sol said as he stood to take the said guitar off the wall, “what does that have to do with your thievery?”

“Everything, if you can have that guitar I can have this drink,” Paulina said as she also passed a cigarette to Jensen.

Jensen beamed happily, “No it does not it…” as Sol sat down he saw Jensen try to light her cigarette up.

Sol smacked the Cigarette out of Jensens' mouth, ”Paulina are you out of your mind?” Sol then also smacked the cigar out of Paulinas' mouth.

“What the hell are you doing?” Paulina asked, annoyed.

“You can't let a fourteen-year-old smoke.” Sol said as he cheered with Jensen and sipped on his drink. “It hurts the voice”

“But I don’t care about my voice” Jensen said

“Of course you do, how would you be able to sing with a smoker's voice?”

“I don’t care about being able to sing” She huffed.

“Everyone wants to sing,” Sol said self assuredly. “Don't you dare speak such blasphemy in my presence”

“Right,” Paulina responded flatly, “blasphemy”

“It is, don't understate the power of wor…”

“Sol quickly question,” Jensen interrupted, “Where’s Alfred gone off to this time?”

“Why would I know?” Sol sipped on his drink.

She fixed him with the Look.

“Fine,” Sol fidgeted as his eyes drifted to the corner of the room. “He went to the Yorkanage ”

“Ohh a new kid. Who’s he. What’s he like?”

“That's a great question Jensen, again, how would I know?”

“Because, ummmm. You speak with Alfred the most!” Jensen said victoriously.

“Just because Sol speaks with him, the most doesn't mean that Alferd would be any less of a cryptic wizznarkle”

Sol poured himself another shot “And what makes you think he tells you more?”

Paulina tried to answer but got cut off as Crane burst into the room, “Hey Paulina, Maja is-” Crane stopped speaking as his eyes zoomed to the Bunnahabhin “If you don't give me some I'll tell on you.”

“Right right,” Paulina said smacking Sol “Go do your job piano-man”

“You understand that piano-man is a complete underselling of the essence of what I…”

“Shut up and do your job”

Sol shrugged his shoulders and rolled his eyes. "It isn’t worth it," he whispered to himself. ‘Just let it be’

Crane mumbled to himself. “Oh Crane, what does Maja want this time?”

“Oh I don't know,” Crane said eyeing his shot “Something Crane”

“Shut up piano man” Crane sipped on his drink.

“Whatcha moaning about there?” Sol asked

“So when will Alfred be back?” Jensen said rerouting the conversation back on its original track.

“I would like an answer for that as well Jensen,” Sol poured himself a third shot.

Paulina snatched the Bunnahabhin from him “Stop that, leave some for the rest of us”

“YEAH,” Jensen yelled quietly before shyly reaching out with her cup.

Paulina Laughed as she poured Jensen another drink.

“Oh right Paulina, I need help with some of my homework when can -” Crane tried to ask.

“GET YOUR ASS THE FUCK DOWN HERE RIGHT GODAMN NOW” Maja yelled.

Paulina and Crane Rushed out of the room.

“That's why I love Maja,” Sol finished his third shot. Before heading downstairs.
