There are a few things in life that matter to me. The most important is time. Time defines me and how I choose to live my life. When my grandfather bought me a pocket watch I was filled with morbid delight. I knew what watches were used for but while others cared for the function, I cared for the symbolism. The idea that I can see my life tick away, second by second. It fascinated my young mind to no end.
The thing with watches is that I was not too fond of their design. They are around the wrist, which is not my thing. Pocket watches are different; they are hidden from view, with the only indication being a chain around the waist. This single chain binds one's life to the clock, a connection between waking self and time. It's personal, it's your time that the clock ticks away. We never know when the end will come, but we know it gets closer with each passing tick.

I cherish the watch just like I cherished my grandfather. His watch has already stopped; my father's watch is next, and my watch's turn will come just like the rest.
