CHAP 9: Goblin slaughter

CHAP 9: Goblin slaughter

As i was considering the state in wich her sanity was, Lein packed her stuff. After checking a map and a compass, she headed toward her goal without even looking back. I could have walked away, she wouldn't have noticed. But i couldn't leave her alone.

And now we are both hidden behind bushes twenty meters away from the crude wooden walls of a goblin encanpement. We had a long and uneventful walk before coming here. The sun is already hiding behind the horizon.

If the goblin had sentries, we would have been spotted. But it seems like growing far from humans with next to no predators other than wolves and bears made those goblins grow overconfident. From our hiding spot, i could already count at least thirty goblins. The small green unwashed pests are too busy eating and dancing around the gigantic fire in the middle of their village.

The place is pretty big for a goblin's village. It seems they nested in a cave and expanded outside, adding a few wooden shacks and a small wall. The number of inhabitants should be around the forty's. Most goblin tribes will bring everyone out when there is a feast like that, but the absence of their leader let me think there is more.

The strong blood sent in the air is probably coming from their meal. My cat senses are quite helpful in this situation, i can smell the three boars's guts rotting on the ground, probably next to where they prepared them. On the sound part, i can tell by their tone that the goblins are happy, some are even drunk on some wild fermented berries.

Lein is observing them too. I wish I could tell her every information I managed to gather.

She got up and walked back into the forest. She rummaged through her backpack, brought out two bear traps, three vials of black liquid and throwing knife that she coated in some sort of poison I couldn't identify.

Her plan is simple yet efficient, anyone could tell it's not her first time she knows how to use each of the goblin's weaknesses. Once her preparations were over, she circled the village.

Each time she found a goblin that strayed from the group, she sneaked on him and stabbed him. First goblin weakness, they are pathetically weak alone and easy to sneak on. She then turned to me:

"Fenrir, I need you to take thoses vials and spread them near the fire. Once your done, run away."

Second goblin weakness, they can panick easily, Lein wants the oil to spread a fire to scare them. She gave me a string she tied around all three vials. Holding the string in my mouth barely prevented them from touching the ground. I used telekinesis, it was easier, which made Lein feel like an idiot.

After a quick climb on one of the wooden shacks, I poured half of the first vial on it, left a trail and repeated the process for the other buildings. With this i can ignite the whole place in a matter of seconds, used the content of the last vial to link everything. The last part was the hardest, i had to ignite it. I used telekinesis to pour it as close of the fire as i could without the goblins noticing. Then i threw the vial on the ground between the trail and the fire. The goblins were all startled by the sudden sound of broken glass and the light from the fire, some of them shrieked in pain as droplets of burning liquid splattered on them.

The fire quickly spread to the roof of the shacks, one by one. The effect was as intended, half of the goblins ran toward the cave, mostly the wounded and the young ones. The others grabbed burning pieces of wood and searched the forest.

Two of them walked on the bear traps. Third weakness of the goblins, they are predictable, if one of them gets wounded, the others will nearly always come to see what happened. The scattered green grunts rushed toward the screams, the first one to reach his wailing brethen triggered the second bear trap. The second victim made the rest of them wary, they slowly walked instead of rushing and checked the ground. When they reached the two, they tried to disarm the traps.

They weren't fast enough, Lein trap was perfect. She used some sort of silent chanting skill or spell and canalised her mana. Judging by the amount of mana and the sigil, she's casting an ice domain. Considering her tactics, her jobs must be alchemist and mage or something like that.I didn't need to use magic sight to feel the swirling magic mass above the greenskins.

After two seconds of focus, Lein unleashed her spell. A freezing wave of magic dropped on the goblins, freezing the feets and legs of the monsters. The unlucky one who was in the middle of the spell got entirely frozen. Lein smiled at the result of her trap and turned to me. She handed me the dagger.

"Go finish them off with that, it's poisoned, you just need to graze them."

She was puposely leaving most of the kills to me. The goal of this expedition really is to level me up.

I ran around distributing minor cuts to the goblins with telekinesis. The frozen pests kept trying to grab me, with no success. Each goblin i stabbed grunted, then took a pained expression before going limp with a foaming mouth. Once i was finished, i was left in a frozen graveyard.

Mind cast (Toggle) lvl 0(0%)

When the skill is active, known spells can be casted by thought but cost extra mana and are less efficient(+30% mana cost increase,-40% spell power)

With this I can cast all the spells I want! I can use powerful cursed magic.

Error, not enough mana.
