Ch. 15 [THE END]: A Future Together

In the serene morning sunlight, the Sun King stood at the edge of the yard, gazing into the distance. The fresh morning breeze rustled through his hair, and he felt as though a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. The concerns about the Agency and the consequences of his actions were momentarily overshadowed by the tranquility of the moment.

As he looked out over the landscape, he noticed a faint, almost ethereal aura approaching-a presence he hadn't felt in a very long time. He turned his head, and there she was, the enigmatic Nightjewel, looking over the mountains with him, a warm smile on her face.

"It has been so long," the Sun King said with a mixture of surprise and nostalgia.

The Sun Kings smile remained as he said, "So it was you who pulled the strings."

Nightjewel chuckled. "You know me, Triath, I'm not a 'puller of strings' kind of person. I was just there when needed."

Their conversation was a reunion of old acquaintances, filled with the unspoken understanding that time had changed them both.

Turning his attention back to Nightjewel, he asked, "Why did you come here? Weren't you busy in Jinria?"

Nightjewel's demeanor shifted slightly, and she adopted a more serious tone. "Things changed, Triath. These changes are why I'm here. It's happening here too, and the new heroes need us. Brekan might have been the first in Avalia, but he wasn't the first in this new age."

The Sun King's interest piqued, and he met her eyes with a questioning look. "Does that mean there's hope?"

Nightjewel said, "There is hope. A new generation."

Triath took a deep breath and exhaled, voicing his concern. "But they are weaker than us. They will fail."

Nightjewel offered her wisdom, "That's why they need us. All of us."

Her gaze bore into his soul, conveying the urgency of the situation.

With a somewhat displeased tone, he acquiesced, "Fine. I have time now anyway."

Turning his gaze back to the horizon, Triath knew that he had committed himself to a new purpose, one that would shape the future of this world and the generations yet to come.

As Brekan stood near the flower shop, he overheard a conversation among a group of workers nearby. One of them asked, "Have they found the traitor yet?"

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Another worker replied, "No, he's still on the run. I hope they find him. He was the reason the Inquisition was so weakened in the Witch Storm."

The airfield buzzed with activity as Augos landed and took off, bringing supplies from other cities within the Sun Kingdom to help out the capital. It was a sunny and warm day, and the air was filled with the chatter of workers discussing the recent Witch Storm. Guards patrolled the area, keeping a watchful eye on everything.

Brekan remained silent, his face concealed behind a newspaper. He understood that these workers could think what they wanted; soon, it would no longer be his concern. He returned to reading the newspaper, his thoughts drifting.

The newspaper revealed that the Sun King had disappeared, and the Agency had taken control of the government. This had drawn the ire of the military, the guard, and the Inquisition, who questioned the legitimacy of the Agency's actions and were already threatening to take action.

Brekan could already see the new conflicts brewing. Even without a Witch Storm there were strong winds blowing.

As he absorbed this information, Nightjewel quietly stepped up beside him. In a hushed tone, she said, "All is set. Our ship will lift-off in thirty minutes."

Brekan felt a wave of relief wash over him. The time had finally come for him to leave this place.

Nightjewel leaned closer as she said: “This is your last chance to change your mind.”

But Brekan smiled and replied, "I'm a wanted man, traitor, and murderer. I'm happy to be gone from this place. Besides, this country will not allow me and Sari to marry. We will have to find another place that does."

Nightjewel nodded with a knowing smile.

Just then, Sari emerged from the flower shop, wearing a fresh light blue dress and carrying a leather shoulder bag. A straw hat adorned with flowers perched on her head.

Sari handed Brekan a purple flower, one he instantly recognized as Avalis-the flower of his family. Emotions welled up in his eyes, and he thought of how his parents would judge him, were they still alive. But maybe it was better there weren't here right now.

Taking the flower from Sari, he couldn't help but lean in for a kiss. Brekan whispered, "It's time to leave. A new future awaits us two."

Brekan looked at Nightjewel and corrected himself, "Us three."

A mysterious smile danced across Nightjewel's face as she spoke, "Into a bright future together."
